01.01.2022 Welcome Dalby Moto and Save the Quad Bike in Australia to the SMEA family. The push by the National Farmers Federation (NFF), against all the research, to lobby... Government to impose punitive conditions on manufacturers - forcing them to fit Operator Protection Devices (OPDs) to quad bikes - is arguably one of the most ridiculous nanny state ideas I've heard as a senior policy analyst and adviser, in nearly 20 years. As a result, world leading manufacturers like Honda and Yamaha, who spend hundreds of millions on technological advancements annually, are leaving Australia. It's really simple: We don't blame boat manufacturers for people drowning. If some dude decides not to wear a life jacket and drowns as a result, I'm sorry it ain't the fault of the manufacturer who built the boat. But for some reason the NFF believe it's ok to blame manufacturers for a rider dying or being seriously injured on a quad bike, for not wearing a helmet!!! We complain about government interference daily. Compliance, policy and legislation is killing this country and this decision - to force manufacturers to fit OPDs - is plain stupid.
