The companies listed under the #5G Clean Networks initiative include all five Taiwanese 5G providers, Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, T Star, FarEasTone and Asia Pacific Telecom. The initiative is aimed at ensuring an end-to-end communication path that does not use any transmission, control, computing, or storage equipment from untrusted IT vendors, such as Huawei and ZTE, which are required to comply with directives of the Chinese Communist Party. US secretary of state Mike Pompeo announced in April the demand for a Clean Path for all 5G network traffic entering and exiting US diplomatic facilities. #CleanNetworks #CleanPath

Minister Wu emphasized the historic significance of the visit and stated that it has provided a mechanism for cooperation between #LikeMindedPartners and will strengthen cooperation in terms of democratic values, supply chains, trade and artistic exchange. Senate President Vystril pointed to three areas in which progress had been made through the visit, the first being in the development of substantive bilateral relations, including trade, investment, research and education, medicine and public health, which he said he would bring up with the responsible senate committees on his return home; the second was that the visit highlighted the importance of the values of #freedom and #democracy; the third was that it will promote further cooperation under the framework of a shared value for democracy. He also invited Legislative Yuan President You to visit the Czech Republic to continue parliamentary exchanges.

In the statement US secretary of state Mike Pompeo, US secretary of defense Mark Esper, Australias minister for foreign affairs Marise Payne and minister for defense Linda Reynolds reaffirmed their intent to maintain strong collaboration with Taiwan and support Taiwans meaningful participation in international organizations. They also expressed their deep concern for the recent passing of the national security law in #HongKong and for the repression of #Uyghurs and members of other minority groups in #Xinjiang. MOFA is grateful to the US and Australia for their open show of support for Taiwan and the joint statement is testament to the success of our #NewSouthboundPolicy, as well as Taiwans reputation as a reliable partner in the Indo-Pacific region.

Fan met with Dr Olivier Krischer of University of Sydney and Dr Shuxia Chen of Australian National University, to exch...ange views of academic and cultural collaborations between Taiwan and Australian, and welcomed more opportunities of bilateral cooperation between both sides. DG Fan explained Taiwans progression towards democracy, and how it became one of the most vibrant democratic nations in the world, and with the recent geopolitical situation, Taiwans role as a frontier democracy will become more and more prominent. Dr Krischer and Dr Chen explained the initiation of the preliminary study for the Taiwan-Australia collaborated cultural project: Wayfaring: Photography in 1970s-80s Taiwan, and conveyed that Taiwans story is definitely worth sharing with Australia and the rest of the world.
