22.01.2022 We were thrilled to have our two talented #GirlsRunTheWorld delegates back at the Embassy this week for an Instagram takeover during this week’s Leadership Excellence Award ceremony (presented to Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne!) 19.01.2022 More than a century since we first fought side-by-side, 80 years after the United States and Australia established diplomatic relations, and 68 years since the formation of our Alliance, our shared commitment to freedom and democracy remains unbreakable. Read the #AUSMIN2020 Joint Statement here:

19.01.2022 It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of Ambassador Edward J. Perkins (1928-2020). Ambassador Perkins was U.S. Ambassador to Australia from 1993 to 1996. A veteran of both the U.S. Army and Marine Corps, Ambassador Perkins went onto a storied career with the State Department, including being the first African American to be appointed Director General of the Foreign Service. He was appointed by President Reagan to serve as the first African American U.S. Amb...assador to South Africa in 1986, despite protests against his serving in this country where a racist regime brutally protected its system of apartheid. He was also appointed Ambassador to The United Nations, and Liberia - before his final Ambassadorship in Canberra. After his diplomatic career he taught at the University of Oklahoma. The U.S. Mission in Australia extends its deepest condolences to the Perkins family.

11.01.2022 Sometimes I feel like crying, tears of happiness, tears of joy, to see the distance we’ve come and the progress we’ve made. As we mourn the loss of Congressman John Lewis, we honor his work as a civil rights leader. We reflect on the progress he made, and also recognize that we have further to go. Rest in Power, Congressman.

08.01.2022 Today our embassy community paused to reflect on the tragic events of September 11, to remember those whose lives were lost on this day 19 years ago, and to be thankful for the strength and solidarity of our alliance with Australia.
