22.01.2022 NAIDOC 2020 @ AUBIN GROVE Kaya! The last week of Term 3 marked another very special occasion in our school calendar. Every year, the staff and students at Aubin Grove look forward to NAIDOC Week to celebrate, honour and learn about our Indigenous culture and history. We dance, sing, paint, braid, draw, share stories, collaborate, play and listen. ... Aubin Grove would like to thank Mrs Cass and the amazing team of teachers on the HASS committee who organised and ran some incredible activities for the students for NAIDOC week. It was a wonderful, colourful and cultural end to Term 3. We love learning about the traditions of Indigenous culture. One of our new traditions we have created at Aubin Grove Primary is our NAIDOC Community Dancing. All staff and students gathered in our central courtyard to dance and sing together to 3 of our favourite Indigenous songs; Gundullah by the Yabu Band Treaty by Yothu Yindi Marryuna by Baker Boy Thanks goes out to our Language Arts Captains for hosting a fun start to the week and getting us up and dancing. We look forward to continuing to grow our knowledge of our ancestors, our land and our country.

17.01.2022 AUBIN GROVE IS GOING CRAZY FOR A GOOD CAUSE! On Friday Week 6, November 20th, Aubin Grove is hosting Crazy Sock Day for a good cause! Students and staff are invited to wear their craziest pair of socks to celebrate World Children's Day and World Kindness Day. We will also be asking families to help us in our whole school act of kindness.... We invite families (who are able to) to bring along a clean, unused, new pair of socks to school that day to donate to the Perth homeless community. Many of our homeless population lack clean, warm and dry socks in both winter and summer. Donating 1 pair of socks can make a big difference! All donated socks will be collected from classrooms on Crazy Sock Day and will be passed on to one of our local services who support our homeless communities. We look forward to having a fun day for a fantastic cause.

02.01.2022 INTERNET AWARENESS Today, we had Paul Litherland from Surf Online Safe spoke to our Year Five and Six students about Internet Awareness. Paul's key messages were: - PAUSE for 5 seconds before posting or commenting online. ... - THINK and ASSESS - how much information am I giving away about myself? - The importance of reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviour. An alarming 86% of children do not tell an adult when something goes wrong online. - Be an informed user! Check the privacy and location settings on the social networks and gaming sites being used. - Netiquette. You’re better than that. - Don’t accept follow requests from strangers, despite the desire to become 'Insta' or 'TikTok' famous. Children who are afraid of reporting cyber concerns to an adult can access the e-safety web site. https://www.esafety.gov.au/kids Paul Litherland has recently worked with the Telethon Institute to develop a cyber safety app for parents. We would highly recommend downloading this app ‘Beacon,’ through the app store. Our Students connected and responded really well to Paul's real life stories and statistics... Bianca - "Thank you for teaching us about the dangers of the online world. We have had speakers tell us about it before, but we haven’t necessarily been told why or how it was dangerous. Thank you for making it engaging too! I will definitely be more aware and safe online now that that information has been given! I’m going to go home and turn off my location and pass it on to my younger brother." Zoe - "Thanks for teaching us how to be aware online. I think that in the future many people will be aware when online and gaming. Some of the things that had shocked me is that only 27 kids out of about 500 kids told their parents that they were being hacked or scammed and losing so much money." Skanda - "Thank you so much for making us aware of the situation we are in. You are quite funny and are very good at doing what you do. Thank you for making it clear what we have to do in order to be aware of scammers on the internet and how to deal with it." Thanks Paul Surf Online Safe for being in the know and sharing your valuable information to our Staff and students.
