19.01.2022 The under 24’s season kicks off today against Burwood in what is a very sad day for not only the Burwood club but Shires cricket in general. Gerard Price passed away this morning leaving a legacy not matched by many. Inducted into the Shires Hall of Fame and a Order of Australia medal for his services to cricket and the community amongst his many accolades. Our thoughts are with the Briars Club.... 13.01.2022 Message from Club Coach Mark Bursa. Firstly, Happy New Year to all, hope you have all had a great Festive Season and well earned break during the half way point of the cricket season. As we return to training this Wednesday in preparation for our first two day game (pending covid restrictions) it would be an ideal time to not only reflect on what we have achieved thus far this season and where we sit on each respective ladder but to also look into where we can progress and i...mprove on as individuals, teams and as a club. Looking at each ladder, we are mostly there or there abouts however, it would be fair to say that we have underachieved so far as a whole, especially as our ultimate goal is to build on previous seasons achievements. Without it all being doom and gloom, if we are honest with ourselves, we should have a fair understanding on what we have been doing well and what we need to work on. Not all results have gone our way and weekly feedback has revealed that batting and bowling efforts haven't been the overall cause, it has by far been poor fielding standards, both ground and catching, and lack of efforts when it counts. I acknowledge those who attend training on a weekly basis as they understand the emphasis we place on fielding efforts, and I accept not all can make training sessions but each individual is accountable for their performances, and thus far too many games have been lost in the field. Moving forward, performances a vital and areas which will be focused on are: (Batting) - Shot selections, batting accordingly to the situation at hand, putting more value on your wicket, (Bowling) - Bowling tighter areas, not getting bored, utilising bowlers more effectively according to the situation, (Fielding) - Communication, simplifying ground fielding and catching, understanding strengths and weaknesses and being 100% in control of your fielding efforts. Warming up pre-game is to be at the same standard and format across all teams. I'm looking forward to what the remainder of the season has in store for the Eagles, I hope we can all bind closer as a club, and ultimately sing our song proud! See you all Wednesday afternoon. Hey Eagles! Cheers, Burse.
