25.01.2022 I had forgotten how much I loved the construction process and the detail required. A simple Oto SE output board but will be loaded with Silver Tantalums, Niobium’s and NOS Blackgates and enough silver to make anyone smile. Not for resale, just a project of devotion and learning as to possibilities. Will post more images as it progresses. This is the afternoons work. An hour or 2 a day will be good enough. Cheers.

22.01.2022 Always nice that other people think the same way you do.

22.01.2022 It’s strange to think that 8 resistors are worth a post but these are the new Niobium resistors, the 2 watt Non Magnetic 1k and the not in production 2 watt Niobium Silver 1k2 from Peter Q’s sample pieces. These are going into an upgrade of a pair of Kegon Balanced Mono’s. All the other resistors are 2 watt Tantalum Silver but these are for the grid stoppers. Now I can start the board rebuild.

19.01.2022 As a labour of love, this is up there. Replacing 16 binding posts on the Signature x-overs of AN-E speakers from the Meishu style to the Ongaku versions. Metal chassis drilled, acrylic drilled and finished, desolder and fit and resolder. Requires a high degree of attention to detail and now, a very happy owner.

17.01.2022 Yello on a TT3.

16.01.2022 Audio Note graciously sent us some of the new 2watt Niobium resistors for us to try as Peter knows that we can substitute in components safely and to a factory standard and so we installed the 1K values into the grid position only for the 300b tubes. This is one of my personal amplifiers and rarely gets played but serves the purpose brilliantly because it is loaded with Blackgates, 2watt Silver Tantalum resistors, Ultra HiB output transformers and Sogon and SPx wiring. The go...ld leaf finish on the top plate is just me wanting something unusual and when we were in Japan we bought packets of hand beaten gold leaf in Kanazawa and Phil from AN kindly sold me some B stock top plates to work on. As to the sound of the Niobium resistors, straight out of the box they sound quite different to the tantalum in that position. They have serious bottom end extension and the most surprising aspect is the increased sense of texture and tone in the recording. Micro dynamics are very evident and balanced in the ECM recording I have been using to start the run in process and this is using the stock supplied AN carbon plate 300b’s, not the AN-4300’s or the Takatsuki tubes. I’ll put 80 hours into before I sit down and listen again but they are seriously good right now. The WE’s will go in when everything is settled in. See more

14.01.2022 We had a hifi show we planned to exhibit the new Tonmeister Phono SE Silver and the TT-3/PSU-3 back in April but something interrupted called COVID-19. This is the system we would have played and these are the racks we built to show the equipment off. Not only do they look rather smart but they also cause a dramatic change to the sound of the system. The secret ingredient is the type of stone used for the shelving. Absolutely brilliant at dealing with vibration and completely changes the noise floor of the system.

10.01.2022 You notice a little dust and before you know it, it’s naked.....TT3 nude, who would have thought. Looks kind of nice. One thing you do notice is how warm the top plate supporting the motor gets. They are not a small torque motor by any stretch of the imagination. The machine work quality is very good as well.

02.01.2022 We have decided this will be our Christmas system this year. A lot of fun and easy to turn up and bounce around. We hope you enjoy yours as well. Let’s hope 2021 is full of promise and great music. TT3-ARM3-IO1-S9-OTO SE SIG-SPx-E SPe HE Cheers.
