24.01.2022 Today while grocery shopping someone was brave enough to ask me... Why are you wearing that you’re confusing folks. Do you want to be a boy or a girl? I lau...ghed and simply replied Neither, I want to be comfortable and left the fuck alone. The source of your confusion is not my concern, nor my responsibility. I wore this today because I wanted to. If you’d like to make a monthly donation to my wardrobe I’d be happy to consider your opinion on my attire. Needless to say, he didn’t agree to a monthly donation so I will continue to be queer AF, and unbothered. Edit: I didn’t know this status would be so poppin. While I have your attention here. Make sure you like Hugh Lane Wellness Foundation. It’s amazing to have a workplace that encourages me to show up as my most authentic self Beyoncé if you see this. Let me know where to send my address so I can get a Orange Box #Nonbinary #Fashion #FuckYourGenderNorms #WorkAttire

15.01.2022 Repost from @remakeourworld using @RepostRegramApp - // ^ Louder for the brands in the back! Only priority outside of fam , should be our ! As science proves we have limited time to change our behavior to positively impact the planet, heightened awareness has led some brands to take an environmental POV. Yet, rather than taking meaningful action, there’s a good # of brands that have used it as a marketing ploy and left us all pretty confused. While #greenwashing is a ...serious offense, a lot of those same brands are now taking advantage of both makers and our planet, strictly for profit this holiday season. See a brand offering a discount or special price point? How does that impact the women who made the garment?! If a brand is able to offer a compelling deal, what was the true cost for the labor responsible for it? What does that say about the quality of the piece? How about customer facing perks like free expedited shipping? Think about the brand’s larger environmental impact. During #BlackFriday and #CyberMonday, air pollution spikes, thanks to the increase in online orders. In 2017, it was estimated that every 93 seconds, a diesel truck left an @amazon fulfilment centre. Be strong & smart this season. #BoycottBlackFriday and #CancelCyberMonday. Tag a friend who needs to this & spread awareness of the importance to #wearyourvalues. See more

14.01.2022 This popped up in my memories from a few years ago, but it’s still so brilliant. Do you want to be like these glorious women? Or are you a bit afraid? Seeking your own individual style, no matter your age, can be a daunting thing, but with some support and encouragement, you can be living and dressing fearlessly! It’s liberating and joyous.
13.01.2022 FAST FASHION INFLUENCERS // Fast fashion influencers be like I’m a feminist! women empowering women Down with the patriarchy! etc all while wearing clothe...s made from the slave labour of other girls and women and thus perpetuating the awful so-called patriarchal system they're against. Hypocrisy much? So a big shout out to the amazing organisation @walkfree based in Perth, WA for this campaign and the ongoing work they’re doing to end modern slavery- 71% of all victims are women and girls. To coincide with the 2020 International Day of the Girl Child they have released a report Stacked Odds to examine why they are more vulnerable throughout their lives. To learn more, visit @walkfree or head to their website www.walkfree.org. This campaign got our attention and we hope it grabs yours too. 11.01.2022 Melbourne peeps, if you can’t make do and mend for yourself, there are options!
11.01.2022 What is POLYESTER? The material now comprises 60% of clothes produced globally, a figure which has doubled since the year 2000. But what is it actually made... from and how does it impact the Earth? After development of the first commercially successful synthetic textile, Nylon in 1926, Polyester followed in its footsteps. Du Pont bought the trademark in 1946 and began commercially producing the material by 1951. In less than a century, Polyester has become the most widely used textile fibre, and perhaps one of the most damaging. Polyester is made from ethylene, derived from Oil, as the basic raw ingredient. During polymerization, ethylene is mixed with dimethyl terephthalate and the two react under incredibly high temperatures. The resulting chemical is then combined with another one, terephthalic acid, and the outcome is a liquid polyester, which is extruded through a showerhead-like device to form long, fine ribbons. These ribbons of plastic are cooled and dried, and then cut up into little chips, like plastic sprinkles. During melt spinning, polyester is melted up to 270 C until it liquifies. Then, the liquid is drawn through a particular desired shape of nozzle, to produce the fibre. As it’s drawn, it gets stretched, which creates a fibre that’s more flexible and stronger than rigid plastic, and instead resemble the yarn that creates polyester fabric. The bottom line POLYESTER IS PLASTIC. And in an age where we are waking up to the irreversible damage of plastic on our ecosystems, we should demand the clothing abandon virgin polyester, and innovate alternatives or use recycled options. #FashionRevolution #WhatsInMyClothes? #WhoMadeMyClothes?

10.01.2022 We need to talk about consumption and fashion’s waste problem 80% of all the clothing we produce ends up in landfills or incinerated. And considering that ...we are now producing 150 billion items of clothing each year, that number is exponentially too high. We must hold fashion brands to account. On a day like #BlackFriday, we’re reminded that circularity isn’t enough to tackle overproduction. Brands MUST take responsibility for the volume of clothing that they produce, along with the marketing messages they use. Rather than spend holiday seasons steering us to purchase the damaging levels of merchandise they’ve produced, brands need to make less, pay workers more, and own up to the costs of overproduction. We can also do our part by abstaining from the discount mania. We have power in our voices and our choices. Let’s tell brands to drop their production volumes this Black Friday, instead of dropping their prices Please donate to our Black Friday campaign https://www.gofundme.com/f/fashion-revolution-2020 #fashionrevolution #buynothingday #takebackblackfriday #whomademyclothes
10.01.2022 Sorry for the recent radio silence... Things have been a bit grim in the world, and added to that, I’ve had a rather unpleasant medical diagnosis, so I need to take a break from a few things in order to conserve my energy for upcoming surgery and treatment. Hopefully all goes well, and I’ll be back to sourcing sustainable styles real soon!
09.01.2022 Australia is burning and the links between these unstoppable fires and the climate crisis are impossible to ignore. These fires are just a piece of the puzzle i...n the wake of disasters that will continue to shake the Earth as the climate emergency worsens. With fashion brands jumping to the rescue by means of donation, we want to take a moment to talk about the difference between treating the symptoms and finding solutions. Charity is only a temporary aid to the symptoms of climate change, yet many of these multinational brands have driven the climate crisis to its breaking point for decades. They’ve stolen natural resources, polluted waterways, devastated rainforests and left their waste to rot into CO2. Their donations pale in comparison to the damage done, and we want to see them step up on their environmental policies and ecological commitments alongside financial aid. When fashion brands with dubious social and environmental credentials donate to charitable causes, they inevitably end up precipitating scrutiny on their motives and operational practices, and with very good reason; giving money without also making a palpable, concerted, and equally transparent and comparable effort not to be the cause of other damage done is hypocritical. Giving money to a cause in need is one of the best ways to make an instantaneous difference, but if the act of donation is made publicly visible, it is also a way to advertise one’s good intentions - what it mustn’t become is a distraction from endemic bad practice, doing something good but not addressing what else needs to be done better, responding to an urgency without a commitment to the long term. Tell the brands you care about that it’s time to put out their own fires. #fashionrevolution

05.01.2022 ~ i love this advice, with the caveat that it won't work for everyone, and not everyone has the means or safety to do this ~ Tumblr user oak23: Not to sound lik...e a 90s shallow prep, but how you dress can affect your self esteem, and putting energy into wearing things you actively like and projecting an ideal of yourself through fashion instead of seeing clothes as things you have to put on out of obligation helps. It also can give you a sense of control over your appearance that you otherwise wouldn’t have lmao Tumblr user oak23: I bought a cape because of this Tumblr user cishetsbeingcishet: this post is written in a humorous tone but this is the realest shit. two years ago i wore baggy sweatpants and flip flops every day because i was depressed but then decided eh to hell with it and bought some black edgy emo clothes bc thats how i always wanted to dress but never got a chance to and it was only then that i realized that the sweatpants flip flops look was just keeping me in my depression funk. i didnt like the way i looked and i didnt identify with the clothes i was wearing and it only made me feel worse. i then went through my entire wardrobe and got rid of everything that made me feel that way. now i have multiple outfit possibilities requiring different levels of effort but on days where putting on clothes just seems like a project i just have to put on black jeans and a band t-shirt and i can still feel good about the way i look which is a really good way to start off my day. i can not recommend this approach to clothing enough.
04.01.2022 You don’t have to be a celebrity or high profile media personality to have a stylist collate a fantastic and sustainable outfit or wardrobe for you, but it sure is great to see such wonderful folks as Jan Fran supporting this ethos, and totally rocking it! August & Sage delights in celebrating individual style and self expression through sustainable sartorial choices, regardless of age, identity, or status.
04.01.2022 Honestly terrified to start alterations on this 1940s crepe dress, but with my grandma’s seam ripper and a steady hand, hopefully I’ll do it justice and it will be ready to wear as soon as this lockdown is over. The dress fits perfectly except for the sleeves, and since I’m not about to start exercising, alteration is the only option! #lovedclotheslast #1940sfashion #sustainablestyle #makedoandmend
04.01.2022 BRISBANE - Scientists at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) say they have found a commercial enzyme capable of dissolving wool fibres in polyester an...d wool mix fabrics without damaging the polyester. Professor Robert Speight and Dr Laura Navone say their discovery has the potential to save huge quantities of polyester from going to landfill and allow it to be recycled instead. Professor Speight said: "Recycled polyester is a valuable tradable commodity. The polyester extracted from fabric can be made into polyester chips and turned into anything from yarn for new textiles to playground equipment.
03.01.2022 Tumblr user heavyweightheart: every time you leave the house with some aspect of your physical appearance challenging norms but honoring yourself, you get a little firmer in your conviction that you have the right to exist and be a body however the fuck you want
