23.01.2022 Flu Vaccinations Do you work with the public or are you in contact with vulnerable community members? Augusta pharmacy is now offering influenza vaccinations for anyone over 10 years old. It is recommended that even healthy people get the vaccine as it is important to protect the vulnerable in the communtiy. Did you know that children from 6 months of age up to Year 6 can get a free vaccine through their GP. Phone us in-store for more information or to make an appointment.

22.01.2022 We are very excited to be in the process of setting up our very own app that gives you direct access to your trusted pharmacist! The app allows you to order your medication from the tip of your fingers! If you would like to sign up with us please bring in your phone, 5 minutes of your time and all your scripts so we can put them on file :) NB: We will be getting rid of our old script ordering app, 'MedAdvisor' at the end of November. 22.01.2022 Meningococcal Vaccinations Following is important information for parents of young children and teenagers: Vaccination against meningococcal A, C, W & Y strains are free for children aged 1-4 years and teenagers aged 15-19 years. See your GP or immunisation clinic. A vaccination against Meningococcal B strain is also available but is not free and requires a prescription from your doctor. Augusta Pharmacy pharmacists are able to administer the ACWY vaccine to adults without a ...prescription speak us for more information. The meningococcal bacteria is carried in the back of the nose and throat of 10-20% of the population at any time. Very rarely these bacteria can invade the blood stream and cause disease. If the disease progresses, 5-10% of patients may die and 15% will develop significant complications. Those more at risk are smokers, travellers and young adults living in group accommodation. 04.01.2022 Sea sickness Augusta is renowned for whale watching and fishing, but what if you are prone to travel sickness? We have some advice... - Be prepared - take some preventative medication 30 minutes before you travel rather than risk spoiling your day out! - Preventatives are available over-the-counter but check with the pharmacist as these can interact with some other medicines. Mild side effects include dry mouth (pack a water bottle) and drowsiness. - Natural options include... ginger tablets or accupressure wrist bands. - Ginger biscuits or ginger ale are often thought to help, although the dosage of real ginger in these is tiny - whereas the tablets contain around 200mg of ginger per tablet. We do however stock ginger chews which have more ginger content, and its also good to have something to suck on if you are queasy. - Other advice includes: stay calm and relaxed, look at the distance rather than focusing on reading or your camera/phone screen, avoid having a very empty or very full stomach, and get plenty of fresh air (easy in Augusta!). This month we are offering information on the risk factors and management of diabetes. There are questionnaires available and our pharmacists are always happy to chat. 04.01.2022 Burns This time of year we have been seeing a few burns from fires and heaters. Do you know the correct first aid? - Remove the person from danger - Cool the burnt area with cool running water for 20 mins (avoid ice) - Remove clothing/jewellery from the burnt area, unless stuck... - Seek advice about dressing the wound and get all burns checked. After cool running water (or if water is unavailable), a hydrogel such as Solosite or Burnaid will relieve pain, speed healing and decrease scarring. Everyone should have this in their first aid kit, especially those with kids. We can help sort out your first aid kit to suit your needs
