24.01.2022 TANGLED WHALE RESCUED Check out this incredible footage of a whale off the coast of Augusta this weekend! The whale was sadly tangled in fishing rope.... Naturalist Charters marine biologist Brodee Elsdon said it was struggling to swim. "It was severely weighing him down and you could just see by the growth on the whale's back that it has been tied on there for quite some time now," she said. The whale attracted the attention of a shark, which began to circle the boat. Luckily, Officers from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions were able to tag and rescue the whale. Have you ever seen anything like this? 23.01.2022 Bream Fishing Competition Info.... All welcome!!! Molloy Hideaway Park Annual Bream Fishing Competition... Saturday 24th and 25th of October 2020 Entry Fee Adult: $45 (includes dinner Saturday night) Junior: $20 (includes dinner Saturday night) Dinner Only: $20 Please note all entry money is donated to Augusta Volunteer Marine Rescue Competition commences on Saturday 24th October and finishes at 12 noon on Sunday 25th October. Please note : No fish will be eligible if entered after the 11.30am deadline on Sunday. Weight in times: Saturday 24th 8.00am to 3.00pm Sunday 25th 8.00am to 11.30am Only Black Bream may be entered, and the winning fish will be determined by weight. In the event of a draw, the fish will be decided by length. Divisions: Catch and release (fish must be released and swim off) Men’s Ladies Junior Girls (under 16) Junior Boys (under 16) You may only enter one fish in each section and YOU must indicate at the time of weight in which section you would like your fish to be weighted in (Eg: if you enter a fish on Saturday then catch a bigger fish on Sunday , it will replace the fish you have previously in that section.) 21.01.2022 Molloy Hideaway Park Annual Bream Fishing Competition - Fundraising Event Dear Local Business Owners, The Augusta Volunteer Marine Rescue And Molloy Hideaway Holiday Park have been working hard in getting this fantastic event back up and running for 2020! ... We welcome and thank the New Owners of Molloy Hideaway Holiday Park and the new management for hosting this event yet again with Augusta Volunteer Marine Rescue Group. We are approaching local businesses who may be interested in donating to the Molloy Hideaway Park Annual Fundraiser Bream Competition which is being held over the weekend of 24th and 25th of October. We had some fantastic prizes donated last year! Molloy Hideaway Park runs this fantastic event each year which attracts hundreds of competitors and visitors with all entry proceeds donated back to Augusta Volunteer Marine Rescue Group. 19.01.2022 To all fishers heading to the Great Southern and South West this weekend, please take note a 4.5 -5.5m swell is predicted in these areas on Sunday with SSW wind...s. Areas include Esperance, Bremer Bay, Denmark, Albany, Cheynes, Walpole, Yallingyup, Augusta and all areas in between. Salmon can still be caught from the beach during big swell, however please check the weather using a variety of sources and speak to local tackle stores before going fishing. The weather was great for the contestants an Di hope they had a fantastic time. This is one of the only photos I took of the weekend as on shore spotter yesterday, I was too busy watching to take a photo of the action. There are certainly some fit people out there. 02.01.2022 Well the crews from Augusta and Margaret River got a bit more than they bargained for on the weekend , not only were they on board keeping competitors safe at t...he Augusta Adventure Fest they also assisted in an ocean rescue . You can see photos of the crew attending the event and the rescue helicopter, and when I figure how to get the videos on here , them as well . MRVMR member Tim Moore has supplied both videos and photos as well as a brief description of events , his words are below. Here are the videos of the chopper rescue we attended Sunday morning. A South Korean man was washed off Round Rock at Contos, and couldn’t swim but had floatation with him. He Survived in the water for 1 1/2hrs until the helicopter winched him to safety. MRVMR deployed Brems, Augusta deployed RV Riles and the Chopper landed, paramedics checked him out, then the chopper flew him to Bunbury Hospital, and we are very pleased to say he was ok . We also believe he was Married just 2 weeks ago so he now has a pretty frightening honeymoon tale to tell .
