Movember the leading charity changing the face of men’s health. Our fathers, partners, brothers and friends are facing a health crisis, yet it’s rarely talked about. Men are dying too young. 01.01.2022 Nominations are now called for the 2020 Martha Goldsmid Memorial Bursary The Martha Goldsmid Memorial Bursary is available to Jewish students enrolled in a Quee...nsland university who are in need of financial assistance because of their parents low income level and/or limited earning capacity. This bursary commenced in the 1951 to encourage tertiary education for Jewish students whose parents had low incomes and was established by Joseph Albert Goldsmid, in memory of his wife Martha Goldsmid, in recognition of the financial assistance that he received from the Jewish Community when he was a student. Recipients are encouraged, but not obliged, to contribute back to the fund after becoming financially established to ensure the long term viability of the perpetual nature of the Bursary. The Queensland Jewish Board of Deputies Incorporated (QJBD) is responsible for the bursary and four Trustees assess applications and distribute the funds on an annual basis. The Trustees are: Peter Goldsmith (who received the bursary in the 1960s); Professor Ian Shochet (Faculty of Health, School - Psychology and Counselling at QUT), Paul Myers (President, QJBD) and Jason Steinberg (Vice-President, QJBD). Communal organisations are now called on to nominate a Jewish student, or students, enrolled in a Queensland university who may be eligible for the 2020 bursary. Previous recipients are eligible to apply. Only nominations made by a Queensland Jewish organisation will be accepted. All nominations are strictly confidential, must be endorsed by a Queensland Jewish communal organisation and be lodged with the QJBD via email by no later than 5pm on Sunday 6 December 2020. Only nominations submitted using this form will be accepted. The bursary is a modest amount (a few thousand dollars in total) and may be awarded to multiple students.
