25.01.2022 Is it rubbish? Is it recycling? No it's stuff for Reverse Garbage! While at first glance this box of stuff might look like it's destined for the tip, it's actually full of all sorts of goodies that artists and creatives alike will pounce on when they visit the wonderful treasure trove that is Reverse Garbage. Offerering this as part of all Aunty Ali services, makes for greener World, and its something I'm passionate about.

25.01.2022 Is your Coronavirus grocery stock up still taking over your kitchen? This pantry needed a substantial update as it was way too full. First to go were the snacks that the kids had tried but weren't eating, out of date items, almost out of date and unlikely to be eaten and then some surplus to requirements that would take forever to get through. Next things were organised according to how this family live. Not according to anyone elses ideas, or how I'd typically arrange things..., but how they like things to be. If you have a similar problem with chockablock cupboards that you just won't eat, consider donating to your local street pantry, charity or even pop it up on pay it forward. Doing this can make all the difference to those doing it tough, especially when the next meal isn't always certain. Note: Street pantries and charities will usually only accept food that is in date. If yours is past the best before date, give your local pay it forward group a go, as canned and dry goods etc are usually still safe to eat well beyond any recommendations.

22.01.2022 Instant party anyone? Another wonderful donation of almost everything you need for a little one's birthday party (except the cake/food). Invitations, plates, bowls, cups, serviettes, cupcake decorating, party bags & boxes, platters etc, and it's all a super cute princess theme too! If you or someone you know could do with some help to make a little ones birthday party extra special, please get in touch. If you need help with gifts, I've got you covered with that too. Noone should miss out so please just ask.

21.01.2022 I've gotta say, this time I really brought the goods! I was given some fluorescent light globes to recycle, but my client mentioned they may actually work. Soon after I tried to turn on the light in a clients garage and noted it wasn't working. On my next visit I was able to test the donated globe and viola, it worked! I even left them with a spare. It's the little things.

18.01.2022 Thanks to Freny at Sydney Food Share for helping me to provide wonderful hampers to two families in need. https://www.facebook.com/390113274690308/posts/1222158038152490/

17.01.2022 I'm not sure where I found this little gem, but it's true.

17.01.2022 Halloween Costumes: Does anyone have littlies around 4-5 years that need dress up costumes (Spider-Man etc) or older kids around 6-8 years wanting Halloween gear (dresses and other stuff)? A lovely Aunty Ali fan is offering these to anyone in need. Pick up is a short walk from Summer Hill train station. Thanks Mary! Feel free to message me direct and I'll pass on Mary's details.

16.01.2022 Continuing on with the waste reducing side of Aunty Ali, brings me to another one of our favourite places to donate. Have you heard of BOWER Reuse & Repair Centre? Located in Marrickville and Parramatta, this wonderful environmental charity is committed to reducing landfill. This totally speaks my language. The Bower offers a bunch of services and programs, all centred around reuse and repair. They also providing low cost goods to those in need, workshops on repair and rest...oration of furniture, electronics and bikes, collection of household goods and now they even take clothing. As always, please do check out what they will and won't take on their website. Their shop is another treasure trove of wonderful stuff, interesting finds and so much in between that you've got to see to believe. See you next time guys! https://bower.org.au/collection-re-homing/about-collections/

14.01.2022 Lately I've been receiving lots of cries for help from mums of young babies. About the sleepless nights, about not being able to get things done, about lack of self care. I remember all too well how it can be a really tough time; so much so, it's actually why I started Aunty Ali to begin with. I wanted there to always be someone to call and someone to help. I thought it timely to share this interview I did with Peach Tree Perinatal Wellness, a Brisbane based not for profit t...hat (in my eyes) are leading the way in perinatal mental health support. I've always got my fingers and toes crossed that I can do something special with them in Sydney in the future, but until then, I thought I'd share this again. In this interview, I open up and talk honestly about my struggles as a mum with perinatal anxiety and depression. I'm an open book about my experience, how I found it difficult to ask for help, and how I found my way through it. I hope this helps anyone who may be feeling alone and like there's no way out, because there certainly is! I'm here if you need me

12.01.2022 I take before and after photos on most jobs, not so I can post them here, but so I can show my clients how well they've done. It doesn't matter if its been me tidying up a space alone or together with my clients; it's the result that matters. What a difference there is to this one small space. Getting this done has made a difference that is much more than the physical clean up. My client was adament that I post these photos. They wanted to encourage others, that may be feeling too embarrassed to call, to take a chance at changing their lives. So here they are as promised. I truly have seen it all and am never worried about what you may need my help with. Seeing the look of relief on my clients faces when we are done, to feel the change in the energy of their home, is truly the best. It's why I love what I do.

12.01.2022 Happy Friday and a big yay for the weekend, right after I take care of a few things. This is just one weeks worth of donations that I'll be sorting and delivering to where they will do the most good. I already know there's a bunch of items that will help 5 different families I'm supporting, a primary school reading program, a family daycare, the homeless, animal welfare and a few items that will be sold with 100% of the profits going to support people in need. There are also several new items that I'm holding onto for Christmas gifts. Wish me luck!

12.01.2022 It's donation time. I have been lovingly donated a large quantity of kids clothes in size 8-9. I've passed on what I knew was needed by one of my families, but I still have a lot left. Think cute floral shorts, some basics like track pants and sloppy Joe's, dresses, pants etc. Please feel free to contact me via personal message if you're in need. Please ensure you are in a situation where you need clothes for your child rather than just wanting them. Kids only wear about a 1/4 of their clothes once they are in a school uniform 5 days a week. This means you can significantly scale back on that shopping during the sales for the following year, only take the absolute favourites from hand-me-downs etc. Pick up will need to be from Ashfield over the next day or so please.

07.01.2022 Happy Halloween! I made a last minute dash this afternoon to help a friends son get ready for his first high school halloween party. I had no idea who the character was, but he was determined it had to be this. I was even more determined not to go to the shops to get anything. A disused red t-shirt was sacrificed for the tie and an old black hoodie from mum now has eye holes. A mask from my car, and a few other bits, and this young man was very happy with his costume. Phew! What have you come up with this year?

06.01.2022 I was recently asked to declutter and organise a spare room, ready for it's new purpose. We got it done in no time, which meant I could do a quick makeover of the kitchen too. The pantry in this unit is also the linen cupboard, tupperware cupboard and alcohol storage. First the contents were sorted into categories. - Alcohol was sorted and rotated so the things that needed drinking first were moved to the front. - Bedding was reduced down to what is actually used. I typica...lly suggest 2 sets of sheets per adult bed. Spare beds only one set. Think about it. - Plasticware was reduced and sorted to what my client actually uses, with the rarely used items stacked at the back. - Appliances throughout the kitchen were relocated according to my clients cooking habits. Slow cookers are usually used in winter so don't need to be in easy access locations (think high or low). Time to make room for those salad spinners (but only if you actually use it!) Changes don't need to be dramatic, however, a tweak here and there can make all the difference to being able to find what you need, stop the double ups and make your kitchen run more efficiently, but always according to how you use it, not everyone else.

04.01.2022 I was tagged in a pay it forward post where kids had bought a load of Smiggles stationery supplies to give to other kids who weren't as lucky as them. Knowing the work I do, the poster chose me, and I knew just the family! I was then asked if there was anything else the kids needed? So backpacks were also bought for the 2 kids that missed out previously. The thing is, when money is really tight, there is no, everyone gets new school stationery, backpacks, shoes, drink bottl...es etc like many kids are fortunate enough to get each year. It's all about what is absolutely needed. Shopping in a place like Smiggle is usually out of the question. As a kid I knew not to even ask. I remember saying I didn't want to go on the school camp because it cost a lot (that and because I still wet the bed ). My parents would have likely somehow found the money, but I knew it would have been really hard. Kids notice when they are different from most other kids. Other kids notice they are different too. I truly wish we didn't allow fancy stationery supplies like Smiggle in our schools, which highlight the difference even more, but we do and it's popular. On this occasion I'm happy that these beautiful generous kids were able to experience how good it feels to give and that the kids receiving got some fun new stuff. I certainly wouldn't want to be the mum managing who gets what!
