23.01.2022 Lots of our guests will have visited McCrossin's Mill Museum, it has a wonderful history and story of its own that makes for a great read. The Uralla Historical Society have put together a lovely piece about an important centenary for Uralla - 1982. Click through below and enjoy!

23.01.2022 Some good progress on this beautiful winters day! Rosemary hedge on the western side of the Cottage, replacing our myrtus luma hedge that didn’t make it through the drought A hedge of Elderflower that I thought may never happen - so satisfying! (Dreams of Elderflower cordial now resuming ... )... Blue stones from another job becoming stepping stones filled with random varieties of creeping thyme (that’ll take a year or two but we’ll get there) Shout out to Mudbrick Cottage Herb Farm for superb and carefully packed tube stock for many of my plantings today #lovelysunnyday #wintersun #raintomorrow #glorydays #nowforwine #urallanswaustralia @ Aurelia's Farm

22.01.2022 This photo was taken just over a week ago - a wonderful promise of better things to come! But for now we have decided to suspend our B&B business indefinitely. We will open again, refreshed and renewed, when the time is right. In the mean time we will keep working on the food and flowers gardening journey that we also started 15 years ago, when we started building the Cottage. ... We’re going to take this opportunity to refocus our energy and establish something that will be pretty handy. For us, and hopefully also for our community. So you’ll still hear from us, just on something new Stay safe and well all x #urallanswaustralia #gardeninglife #family #community #priorities #rainbow #staysafe #wellbeback

21.01.2022 So we’ve been a little remiss keeping you up to date. Possibly because we had a little set back. We realised that we had put a row of bricks in the wrong way around. We could have managed it with a bit of extra mortar because the angle that we put the wrong way around was very minimal BUT the perfectionist in our midst wasn’t going to be happy until we undid that layer. So - this is now where we are up to, as of sunset on Sunday. Although Andrew has gone out by to...rchlight to clean up the bricks after dark, and to cover it ahead of all the lovely rain we’ve just had, so I can safely say it does look a bit neater than this now. It’s been a lovely project to chip away at, however slowly , and to look forward to catching up with friends over a meal around the finished oven some day - sooner or later! Hope everyone is keeping well x

21.01.2022 Broccoli is looking promising we planted a kind of broccolini because the little people of our world love the stuff. #reinventing #homegrown #newskills #onedayatatime #urallanswaustralia #marketgarden #dreams

20.01.2022 Breakfast apparently. But we can’t eat the carrot in the shape of a J. That one’s for Jake #gardeninglife #vegiepatch #carrots #snowpeas #peasinapod #urallanswaustralia

20.01.2022 These two. Doers, builders, teachers, one time farmers, a pair of dynamos who really don’t ever stop. Also my Mum and Dad. I mentioned that one of my projects was to finally put a separating fence and gate in our huge chicken run so that we could rotate the chickens and finally grow some grass in there. It’s the only thing that hasn’t recovered after the drought. I knew they were going a bit mad in isolation just across town so I shouldn’t have been surprised when the...y turned up with an old bed frame of ours fashioned into a two way gate AND the fence in the middle of the run installed as well. Legends . Thanks Mum and Dad, and thanks for allowing this pic to be shared . #family #happychickens #wonderfulpeople #verygratefuldaughter #urallanswaustralia

19.01.2022 Re-opening our cottage meant we needed a new handmade guest book. We’ve had some beautiful books over the last 9 years but this one is extra special. I discovered the wonderful @bookbookbook____ through Buyfromthebush and knew instantly that my search was over! Not only is the book absolutely divine, the parcel was beautifully wrapped and included a note to say that I was Sarah’s first BFTB customer. How special . This is a five star recommendation from me - beautif...ul, handmade books for so many purposes. Makes me want to rediscover my love for writing all over again! #handmade #buyfromthebush #bookbookbook #bookbinding #bespoke #urallanswaustralia #countryaccommodation #regionalstays #stayinthebush

19.01.2022 Relaxing family day yesterday - wood chopping day today! We took the opportunity to rediscover the Lookout at Mt Mutton on the other side of town, and also enjoyed the walking track we’ve recommended to guests for a few years now. It was refurbished recently and is even more enjoyable - the view back over Uralla at the end of the walk is just lovely. There was also ice cream at Little Birdy Uralla and milkshakes at Burnet’s Bookshop on the way home - perfect!... Hope you’re enjoying the weekend wherever you are #urallanswaustralia #kindofabushwalk #luckytolivehere #littletowns #greatpeople @ Uralla, New South Wales

18.01.2022 A little more progress, and the pile of bricks is definitely reducing more quickly now. I have enormous admiration for what Andrew has achieved here, the curve on the dome looks amazing. Lots of plans for fireside feasts! #woodfiredoven #enjoyingthejourney #urallanswaustralia

16.01.2022 Thank you so much for all the lovely messages and queries about bookings. We’re just trying to work out exactly what we need to do to open safely for everyone, and there are still some details we need to be clear about yet. We also need to work out how quickly we can finish some projects that we started - we thought we had a longer enforced break so we went big with some outdoor improvements - not being very good at sitting still - and it’ll be about 4 more weeks before ...these are finalised too. It’s a bit too messy on the block for our wonderful guests at the moment! Thank you for being patient with us, I can tell things will need to be different when we re-open so we’ll do our research carefully and work the best way forward before we get underway again. With many thanks to you all, and to all the brekky bundle purchasers too - these will keep going indefinitely at this stage, we seem to sell out each week and it’s been amazing #urallanswaustralia #thankyouforbeingpatient #onedaycloser

15.01.2022 It's been a long time between gigs so we are pretty excited to see this come together in Uralla. We are booked for this weekend but there are lots of other great accommodation options and it is looking like being a lovely night out. Have a think about making the trip!

15.01.2022 One of our decisions when things came to a halt was to invest our labour and time in to establishing some small scale fruit and veg gardens. We’ve been composting and squirrelling away fence posts for years and it has been incredibly satisfying to see them used. Here we have some mini #broccoli and some #cauliflower - I have so much to learn and really appreciate all the great gardening groups I’ve discovered recently too. One of my favourites are the Square Foot Gardening Foundation and Humans Who Grow Food pages. I’m undoubtedly more liberal in my implementation than a true devotee but I appreciate the way everyone applauds one another for just having a go! #urallanswaustralia #squarefootgardening #homegrown #gottastart #gardeninggoals #lovetherain

14.01.2022 A gorgeous blue sky day means all hands on deck to make some long overdue progress on our wood fired oven, luckily we have an enthusiastic tile cleaner on the team . #pizzaoven #diy #urallanswaustralia #wintersunshine #kidswhohelp

14.01.2022 B R E K K Y B U N D L E Banana bread loaf Greenhill Orchards Apple OR Pear Juice Crunchy toasted muesli ... (Note - Banana Bread and Toasted Muesli is cooked in our approved commercial kitchen to strict hygiene and cleaning standards.) All three delivered (prepaid and contactless) in Uralla or Armidale for $30 - read on for details or email [email protected], call Tara on 0434408163. B A N A N A B R E A D With our B&B temporarily closed were making our banana bread available for sale for the first time in over ten years. We usually make so much for our guests that we just hadn’t had time to cook it for anyone else but, well, things are a little different at the moment. A full loaf has 10 good slices and weighs around 900g. Made to my own recipe, developed years ago when I was selling my products at the Armidale Farmers Market, this banana bread is made with all Australian ingredients including free range eggs, sugar, bananas, flour, butter and some (secret) spices. It freezes really well and has a shelf life of around 8-10 days if left out or in the fridge. A loaf is $20. T O A S T E D M U E S L I I am also making my crunchy toasted muesli for sale too. This is a rich yoghurt topper, not the kind you eat with milk in a bowl. Made from all Australian ingredients of rolled oats, almonds, brown sugar, cinnamon and butter. It’s a bit decadent and a little bit goes a long way. A 130g bag is $6. P E A R / A P P L E J U I C E Delicious juice from Greenhill Orchards is something we have plenty of on hand - we were all ready for what was shaping up to be a much needed recovery like so many others. But now we’d like to include it in our brekky bundle so that when all this is over we can go back to our lovely friends at Greenhill Orchards and buy more! A one litre bottle is $7. D E L I V E R Y If you live in Uralla or Armidale and you’d like to order a brekky bundle here are the details : order online at www.thehumblecook.com.au (use 'BREKKYDELIVERY' for free delivery at checkout) we’ll get your address and contact number then deliver on the agreed date and time in Uralla and Armidale for free @supportlocalnewengland #supportlocalnewengland

13.01.2022 Thank you so much to everyone who ordered one of our brekky bundles over the last week, and thank you for such lovely feedback! I’ll be delivering again on Tuesday and Saturday, so feel free to order online at www.thehumblecook.com.au or send me a message on 0434 408 163 if you need a bundle delivered (contactless) to you . #brekky #bananabread #juice #muesli #startthedayright #urallanswaustralia

10.01.2022 All those bricks that we have been waiting quite a while to put into place are finally there. We planned this 15 years ago but we always knew it would be last on the (never ending) list . A long anticipated hot house attached to the front of our shed, to grow produce year round. Hoping we’ll be able to supply our community a little, but that may be a tad ambitious! At the very least we’re hoping this will be the start of produce for a new range of condiments that we can create at The Humble Cook kitchen just next door. #goodtohavegoals #loveaplan #hothouse #produce #hydroponics #somanyideas

10.01.2022 Wow - as much as I miss the shop this is a great way to support small, handmade businesses right now. Wonderful quality, great design and a powerful economic impact by spending with the little guys

09.01.2022 And a finished dome at long last! Huge thanks to The Fire Brick Co. for their amazing customer service and advice along the way - not long to go now! Planning on wrapping it ready to render today #melbournefirebrickco #urallanswaustralia #woodfirediven #sourdoughdreams #woodvillebaker

08.01.2022 Our first haul - broccolini! Not a huge crop but I’m hoping there’ll be more, we saw some little ones still coming on. Perfect with a local lamb roast on this slightly wild wintery night . Hope everyone is keeping warm and well x #staysafe #gardening #enjoyingthejourney #broccolini #cantbeathomegrown #squarefootgardening #urallanswaustralia

07.01.2022 Getting my bake on for the Uralla street stall this week, with all funds going to the Uralla Men's Shed Inc.. They are a great group who do so much for the community. They even donated loads of timber as well as their time to the wonderful fairy festival in town last weekend, making precut fairy doors for the organisers to sell and raise some funds for their first event. They were a huge hit! And when I dug deep into my office I found I still have all the labels I used when I took what felt like a mountain of baking to the Armidale Farmers Market, great memories! #community #mensshed #baking #brownies #urallanswaustralia

07.01.2022 Making good progress!

07.01.2022 The best kind of click and collect I’ve ever found!

04.01.2022 Our first haul of carrots ! Our youngest, Helena, had been keeping an eagle eye on them. One of her favourite thing is to eat carrots straight from the garden - we take no credit for that, she’s a girl on her own journey and we’re doing our best to keep up. She did ask what made our carrots taste so good. Thinking quickly ... we told her it was because they grew just the way they needed to. She took another bite and decided we were right . ... #gardeningwithkids #growyourownway #carrots #urallanswaustralia #vegiepatch #realfood #bushkids #countrykids

03.01.2022 We always planned to build this hothouse but we often wondered if it would be one of those pipe dreams we never got around too - or never had the funds for (it’s good to dream though right?). So it’s pretty satisfying to be at this stage and starting to fill said hothouse with some hydroponics and raised wicking beds. #hothouse #sproutwell #urallanswaustralia #gardeningaustralia #gardening #hydroponics #
