20.01.2022 I think kids (and adults) should get out and see a variety of live performances. Sometimes I share big professional pianist recital details, which are great to see, but often quite expensive. Today I'm sharing details for a show produced by a local performing arts school in Werribee. My daughter will be performing for the first time in the junior ensemble, which is exciting for us! But it's an affordable, family show, with performers of all ages, so if you're in the local area it could be a great musical family outing for you this weekend. :D

13.01.2022 Families often wonder what kind of piano or keyboard they should buy for their students. Tim Topham has given a great overview here of the varieties of keyboards and what they are best used for. As Tim suggests, students may start on a fairly cheap keyboard, but should upgrade if they are going to continue for the foreseeable future. I recommend to my students that they invest in a good digital piano when they are able (starting at about $1400), in order to continue to develop good technique, including confident pedalling, and also to really enjoy the sound of a good quality instrument.

11.01.2022 Max Olding and Pamela Page performed Rachmaninov on 2 pianos at the Australasian piano pedagogy conference on Monday night. He's 90 years old! Music must really keep your brain feeling younger!
