18.01.2022 As Team Australia prepares for the closing ceremony I would like to congratulate all the 27 swimmers & basketballers who have trained and prepared for months for these games. Guy,Jarred & Max for their coaching effort and ongoing support and mentoring of their athletes. Michelle, Shelley, Anthony,Les, for everything from the pre game, day to day, all day/night management of the kids/delegation ensuring all ran smoothly. All a little weary and very tired but difficult to remo...ve the smiles of joy!! In their sporting competition every single athlete competed in a manner that should fill them with enormous pride - wonderful sportsmanship! Coaches & parents are overcome with naches, excitement, elation and mixed emotions. Out of the sporting arena these 27 athletes have experienced living with host families, international travel without their families, acclimatising and competing in extreme heat, different cultures, parties, team life, rigorous schedules, community work for those less fortunate than themselves and so so much more. These games has served to expose 27 athletes under the age of 16 to the true values of the Maccabi Organisation, that being to promote Jewish identity and continuity connecting our Jewish community through sport - these kids have learnt life lessons that can't be taught in a classroom. They have forged relationships and created friendships with people from their home state, from within Australia and more excitingly with Jewish youth across the world. 27 athletes who stand proud to represent their families and the entire Jewish community. They shared experiences, memories and common bonds for life whilst continuing to have the zest for the sport they competed in. Whilst we post wins,losses, medals and PBs - EVERY single one is a winner as they have all taken risks, displayed courage, independence, maturity, they experienced victories every day! personal Achievements, growth life lessons. A GOLD medal goes to the JCC organisation for hosting such an incredibly organised games and providing this opportunity to the Jewish community worldwide. A huge thank you to Maccabi Australia for having the faith to put these games back on the calendar for Australia! Personally this journey started late last year and I am filled with pride for all involved - thank you to all the parents who invested emotionally and financially in Maccabi and their children! Can't wait to see everyone on their return Susannah
