On October 23 Air Commander Australia Air Vice-Marshal Joe Iervasi dedicated a new building at RAAF Base Williamtown to Leonard ‘Len’ Waters, Australia’s only known Indigenous fighter pilot during WW2. Len flew 95 operational sorties during the Pacific campaign, before discharging from the Air Force with the... rank of Warrant Officer on January 18, 1946. Len is just one of the many Indigenous Australians who have served, and continue to serve in #AusAirForce. It would be a little tight to fit you all in so here's the next best option, one of our 33SQN KC-30As getting a top up of go-go juice from the The Republic of Singapore Air Force's 112SQN. In a first for the RAAF, a KC-30A tanker was refuelled in the air by a foreign air force when the Republic of Singapore Air Force took part in what was dubbed Boom Camp in the Northern Territory.... #AusAirForce



23.01.2022 29 years on, we remember them. No. 33 Squadron has established a memorial at RAAF Base Amberley complimenting the original memorial at RAAF Base Richmond, for the five crew members tragically lost in the crash of a Boeing 707 A20-103 'Wilberforce' on 29 October 1991. The crew was Squadron Leader Mark Lewin, Flight Lieutenants Tim Ellis and Mark Duncan, and Warrant Officers John Fawcett and Al Gwynne, all of 33 Squadron.... The crew departed from RAAF Base Richmond with the call sign 'Windsor 380' for a training mission to Victoria, and were lost in a crash off the coast of RAAF Base East Sale after their aircraft departed controlled flight. 17.01.2022 Air Marshal Warren McDonald, AO, CSC, will officially retire from the Royal Australian Air Force in January 2021. Warren commenced his military service at age 15 as an apprentice motor transport fitter before commissioning in 1989 and undergoing pilot training. With over 40 years’ service, he has held a number of senior positions including Deputy Chief of Air Force and most recently Chief of Joint Capabilities. His knowledge, experience and leadership will be missed. ... On 24 November he will hand over his role as Chief of Joint Capabilities to Vice Admiral Johnathan Mead, AO, Royal Australian Navy. The project has just hit another milestone, with the Loyal Wingman remotely piloted aircraft taking to the runway for the first time over the weekend. The first flight of the season for Operation Southern Discovery has delivered supplies, equipment, vehicles and personnel to Wilkins Aerodrome in Antarctica. 07.01.2022 Yesterday the Worimi Hornet flew its final flight. It is a special aircraft for us. At the 2015 Australian International Airshow at Avalon Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Geoff Brown AO, unveiled the Worimi Hornet, featuring new Aboriginal artwork, in honour of the Traditional Owners of the land on which RAAF Base Williamtown now sits. When he needed to have life saving open heart surgery it was donated blood that kept him alive. 03.01.2022 For WOFF Scott Biddell, donating blood has been an important part of his life. He's donated more than 130 times in the past 20 years. When Scott's youngest brother was involved in a serious car accident a few years ago he needed 12 bags of blood and 12 bags of plasma to be saved. The plasma alone was six months’ worth of donations from a single person. You never know what unforeseen events will come up in your life or your loved ones Scott said.... 02.01.2022 Fodder bombs away! We've been working on a new way to airdrop fodder bundles to feed stranded livestock during floods and other natural disasters. Check out the latest #MobilityMonday clip. The new delivery method is safer for both the aircrew and the recipients below, and will enable our C-130J Hercules and C-27J Spartan to safely deliver the 160 kilogram bundles of fodder. Normally parachutes would be used during airdrops, however they are not used on fodder due to the ...risk of cattle eating the ropes.
