What is AAPSS we hear you ask?... . AAPSS is a political education program, held annually here in Mildura and takes place at local high schools. . Last year we even took AAPPS to the lecture halls of La Trobe University, Mildura Campus! . 21.01.2022 Introducing AAPSS 2019 panelist Thelma Chilly. Thelma is a proud Aboriginal woman who has ties to the Muthi Muthi , Wemba Wemba, Wiradjuri and Yorta Yorta nations. Thelma was born in Robinvale and has worked for he local Aboriginal community for the past 30+ years. . Thelma has been employed by state government for the past 15 years; firstly with DHS in the Family Violence arena and now for Aboriginal Victoria with the department of premier and cabinet looking after the Loca...l Aboriginal networks in the Region. Thelma is an Aboriginal community development broker. Thelma is a strengths based game changer and has provided many opportunities for her community through a 12 year Youth Holiday Program, a 15 year cultural camp held annually as well as many other initiatives to help build the capacity of the Aboriginal community. Thelma was nominated last year for the national Dreamtime awards, was chosen as a leader to share her deadly story with Vaccho online, is a member of the AAC on MRCC & a member of the Wandarrah action committee with SHRCC. Thelma is passionate about her Aboriginal community and as a well respected Aboriginal elder believes in working to affect change for her people in the hope of a better future.

21.01.2022 Joining Tim Wilson - Federal Liberal Member for Goldstein and Ellen Sandell MP for Melbourne on this years politicians panel at AAPSS, is Ali Cupper MP - Independent for Mildura who was elected to the Victorian Parliament at the 2018 election. . Ali is the first woman to have been elected to the seat of Mildura. . Prior to her election, Ali served on Mildura Rural City Council and was twice deputy Mayor. ... . Ali was one of the co-founders of the Australian Advocacy and Politics Summer School. See more



20.01.2022 Mildura Rural City Councillor Jason Jake the Tradie Modica will join State MPs Ellen Sandell and Ali Cupper and Federal Liberal Party MP Tim Wilson on the panel at the 2019 AAPSS next week at Chaffey Secondary College. . Jake was elected to council at the last Victorian local government election. . He has served as Deputy Mayor and ran as an Independent candidate in the last Federal election. ... . Completely unique, AAPSS offers students a chance to not only discover the inner workings of local, state and federal political systems, but also the opportunity to develop skills to aid them in creating positive change in the community.... AAPSS is back for it's sixth program in December 2019 at a school near you, so watch this space.

14.01.2022 Flashback to 2015 when Julian Burnside QC joined the AAPSS program as a mentor. . The following year he became a patron of the program along with Fiona Patten MP. . We're excited to be holding the fifth installment of AAPSS on December 13 at Chaffey Secondary College.

13.01.2022 We're delighted to announce that Victorian State Member for Melbourne, Ellen Sandell MP will be joining the AAPSS program as a panelist and mentor on December 13. . Ellen grew up here in Mildura and went on to study at the University of Melbourne, graduating in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Spanish and linguistics) and a Bachelor of Science (majoring in genetics) . She joined the Australian Youth Climate Coalition in 2007, and became director in 2011.... . In 2014, Ellen was elected as Member for Melbourne. At the 2018 election, Ellen retained the seat and became the Deputy Leader of the Greens in Victoria. See more

04.01.2022 Ta-da! . We're delighted to announce that Jemma Johnson will be a mentor and panelist at this year's AAPSS program. . Jemma has recently finished her Bachelor of Human Services and Master of Social Work degree at La Trobe University, Mildura Campus, where she has been the LGBTQI+ Officer for three years. ... . Jemma is passionate about equity in our community and is a member of the local grass-roots community group Gender Equity Action Sunraysia. The group focuses on highlighting the link between gender equity and family violence and bringing this awareness to our community through local events. . Recognising the inequity in our sporting community in 2015, Jemma and her friend advocated for a female AFL football league and created the Sunraysia Women's Football League which has provided multiple opportunities for females to achieve their dream. 02.01.2022 Not long now until the * FIFTH * annual Australian Advocacy and Politics Summer School (AAPSS) right here in Mildura! We're pumped to announce our first officially confirmed mentor for this year's program is Tim Wilson - Federal Liberal Member for Goldstein He was elected to the Australian House of Representatives at the 2016 Federal election.... Wilson currently serves on the Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Sport, Standing Committee on Industry, Innovation, Science and Resources and the Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs.
