15.01.2022 Team, An update from ACOMD: LTCOL(AAC) Steve McWilliams. This is just a very short note to keep you all as informed as possible regarding the current status of the NT BN AFX for 2020.... We are still waiting on a decision from the Chief of the Defence Force (CDF). I can assure you that all levels of the AAC have been very active to get permission to resume cadet activities from the National Commander and National Assistant Commander down. The NT BN is well placed locally to resume activities thanks to the work of the COMD, the XO and all HQ staff. We have met all local requirements and from a local position are ready to resume. However, as you are aware, we still require permission from the CDF. As soon as this permission is granted, you will be contacted. The COMD and I are committed to running an AFX this year. It is acknowledged that the timeframe between permission being granted and the AFX commencing may be very short. Put simply, the current position is that if the NT is given approval to run the AFX over the period 5 11 JULY 2020, we will do so. However, it is understood, that people may need to make alternative arrangements should the CDF not give us permission to hold our AFX. As a result, it has been decided that a final decision will be made and communicated to all on Tues 30 June 2020. However, I ask that you maintain your current arrangements so that you can support the AFX until a decision to cancel has been made and communicated. TASKS from this email: All OCs are to reply email acknowledging receipt. All OCs are to develop a communication plan (I suggest utilising senior cadets) in order to contact cadets and invite them to attend the AFX should it proceed. All blue staff are to contact me via return email if the current situation is no longer workable for them, particularly with reference to attending the AFX. RCUO to also develop a communication plan using senior cadets to ensure that they are able to contact cadets. RCUO to task senior cadets to assist OC with their communication plan, as required. I will attempt to contact all OCs during the week. I am working evening shifts, so will likely contact you during the morning. Please let me know if you have another preferred time. I look forward to catching up in the near future. Best regards,

13.01.2022 A successful AFX 2020 with the added safety measure of physical distancing for COVID-19. Thank you to CAPT(AAC) Perry for the photo.

02.01.2022 From COMD-NT AAC We have been given permission by the CDF to conduct the NT 2020 AFX from 5 11 Jul 20. We now still need the approval from BRIG Ashleigh and have significantly completed this. I anticipate receiving his approval on Monday. The main activity will be run out of Defence Establishment Berrimah (DEB) in Darwin however due to Covid-19 travel restrictions the 74 ACU (Alice Springs) Cadets will have a separate activity, but still part of the AFX, in their location.... The two aspects of the AFX are: AFX-A Alice Springs. Into the ACU Depot Sun 5 Jul 20 to Tue 7 Jul 20; Field Phase Wed 8 Jul 20 to Fri 10 Jul 20 at Simpson’s Gap; then a final day Sat 11 Jul 20 in the depot. Cadets will attend the depo phases each day and return home each night. Parents will deliver their cadets to Simpsons Gap on the Monday morning and collect them on the Thursday afternoon. Any cadets who show signs of flu/cold etc are not to attend and if they do their parents will be contacted to collect them. AFX-B Defence Establishment Berrimah. At DEB Sun 5 Jul 20 to Sat 11 Jul 20. . Cadets to live on barracks but any showing signs of flu/cold sent home or isolated until parents can collect if they are from out of Darwin. Activities run during the day and evenings including an F88 (Steyr) and F89 (Minimi) Range Day on Mon 6 Jul 20 and visits to other sites as permitted. An invitation has been extended to the other services so 10 x Australian Air Force Cadets and up to 10 x Australian Navy Cadets (ANC) will attend AFX-B. This activity is the first for any Cadets from anywhere in Australia for the three services since the Covid-19 restrictions took place. This is a chance to return to Cadets, catch up with your friends, learn some new skill or brush up on old ones and have fun at the same time. I expect all NT based staff and Cadets of the AAC NT Bn to attend this activity if possible. OC, Senior Cadets. Please ensure this message is sent to all of our NT based Cadets.
