21.01.2022 TO OUR MEMBERS & SUPPORTERS: Return to Sport 2020 - COVID-19 UPDATE What a year 2020 has been. As the end of year is closing in, there is some light with regards to the resumption of competition woodchopping and training days.... Congratulations to the state executive personnel of Western Australia, Tasmania and Queensland for the tireless efforts to enable a return to woodchopping in their respective States. With approved COVID19 Safety and Risk Management Plans in place, WA have woodchop carnivals / demo's returning from 24th October, Tas 21st November and QAA (final stages of approval) anticipating a start nearing the end of November. The purpose of implementing the plans is to assist Associations / Clubs to identify, evaluate and manage risks associated with the activities of their operations in regard to the COVID-19 Virus (Corona Virus). The Associations and respective Clubs recognise that effective risk management is an ongoing process and must be monitored and adhered to at all times. It is also important noting that the legal responsibilities for our Associations / Clubs is to take reasonable steps to reduce the likelihood of contracting/spreading the COVID-19 virus. By implementing this plan, we are all committed to establishing a safe environment for our members and patrons. ** Victoria (as a State) are at the stage of winding back current restrictions so will be some time until a return to sport is possible. Thank you to all for your patience and understanding during these unforeseen and difficult times. Together our sport will return to "playing fields" in the not too distant future. Regards Jillian Stratton. Simon Bennett Secretary. President.

20.01.2022 EASING OF RESTRICTIONS COVID19 & WORKING TOWARDS A "RETURN TO SPORT" Good evening all... Please read below an email distributed to States this evening: Following on from a conversation I had with Sports Australia (ie Federal Government Sports Department) last week, they have emailed through the below information with regards to our potential Return to Sport in the future. We have developed the Return to Sport Toolkit https://www.sportaus.gov.au/return-to-sport. The Sport Australia has developed a Return to Sport Toolkit that includes a suite of resources to help sporting organisations get ready to recommence training, competitions and programs in a safe, responsible and low risk manner. We highly recommend sports complete this, yet there is no mandatory requirement to do so It is Important note that: State and Territory governments and their public health authorities are responsible for decisions about the resumption of sporting activities in each jurisdiction, both at the professional and community sport level. This also may mean that they have specific requirements to complete Ie a safety plan in order to return to sport. It is the prerogative of each jurisdiction to deem what is necessary and this may differ from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. It is this that should guide sports above all other documentation. As your competitions are held throughout the country you will need to ensure you meet the requirements of the jurisdiction you are hosting events in. It is of utmost importance that each State body consult with their State Government and Health Authorities to outline a pathway to return to competitive woodchopping. Our Insurance will only be valid if relevant criteria’s are met in each State. Please keep the AAA informed of yours State’s progress towards a return and if you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to contact either myself or Simon and we will do our best to assist. The AAA thank all our members for their patience and understanding during these unforeseen times. Some of our States are further advanced into a "Roadmap to Recovery" of which is determined by each State Government and Health authorities and is our guideline to returning to competitive woodchopping. There is still much work to be done but together with your continued co-operation, patience and good hygiene practice (I know we have never used so much hand wash and sanitiser before) we will be recover and continue as a national sport. Simon Bennett (President) Jillian Stratton (Secretary)

20.01.2022 Due to the postponement of the AAA General Meeting in Sydney, the Executive and State delegates joined in a Zoom General Meeting on Sunday 12th July. It was a successful meeting, with many items tabled and discussed that resulted in positive outcomes for our members and our sport. With each State in close consultation with Government bodies and Health authorities, it will be some time before our return to sport can come to fruition. WA is the only state that has managed to a...dopt a road map that is suitable for the sport to commence over in that State. Your State executives will keep you all updated on this matter. With the financial strain COVID19 has placed on many of our members, the delegates approved the AAA will not be recovering the membership fees from each member for season 2020/21. Season 2021/22 we will be only recovering a maximum of $50 per member but of course this can be reviewed pending the situation of our sport in due course. The AAA is also covering the Public Liability and Personal Accident Insurance policies costs for the current season. To encourage NEW members into our sport, we are also offering a $25.00 per year training membership (for training only, not competition). We will also adopt a 3 day competitive membership @ $25.00 per day for new members. This is regarded as a "come n try" membership and upon the 4th competition, full membership is due. The 3 day membership is valid for new members only and for only one year. The AAA is also looking into purchasing mesh guards for distribution to each State. We have also purchased 60ml Sanitiser bottles to be delivered to States to disburse amongst our members / families. Rule amendments were also passed: 1) If a competitor commences cutting before his/her mark, and is disqualified, they have the right to protest the disqualification if the event is being recorded on official technology / devices. The Judge / Ring Steward in charge will review this decision, only on the official device. 2) Protests are able to be lodged up to 10 minutes after the event results have been posted / notified. Due to a number of Shows already cancelled for the season, it was declared that NO Champion of Champions for season 20/21 will be awarded. The winner for 2019/20 will be announced over the coming days. This is a brief summary of the motions passed at the meeting. Minutes will be circulated to all States over the coming days so they will provide any further information to their members. Regards Simon Bennett Jillian Stratton President Secretary

16.01.2022 The last few months have been interesting... it's been 396 days since we've eaten a Dagwood dog.. (but who's counting). Luckily, here at the Sydney Royal Easter... Show, we don't measure time by minutes, hours or months we measure it by memories #CheesierThanACheeseToastie. While the 2021 Sydney Royal Easter Show may seem many months away, it will be undergoing a change of date and will now run in alignment with the NSW school holiday period (cue parents cheers). The new dates are 1 April to 12th April 2021 (and while we don't have a crystal ball) we are planning to see as many of our exhibitors and supporters as possible. This change, plus others we are planning, will provide the flexibility to implement any social distancing measures that may be in place at that time (great excuse not to go on the slingshot with your Showpal). In the meantime, stay safe & be good to one another (maybe poke someone on Facebook, is that still a thing?) and don't forget to keep sharing your favourite memories with #MyEasterShow See more

16.01.2022 Australian Champion of Champions 2019-20 What concluded to be a very interrupted 2019-20 woodchop circuit in Australia, due to floods, fires then COVID19, it is with pleasure we announce the winner of the Champion of Champions Award is Laurence Otoole (Jnr). The always consistent athlete who travels both nationally and globally for the sport of woodchopping, ending the season with 3 Australian titles plus numerous placings.... Laurence is also captain of the very successful Australian Men's woodchopping who defended the Trans Tasman Relay against New Zealand at EKKA 2019. He also is a member of the very successful reigning Stihl Timbersports Team Champions, the Australian "Chopperoos". A presentation will be made to Laurence at an appropriate time and place. Runner-up in the award was reigning award winner Mitchell Argent. Congratulations to Laurence on his outstanding season and we look forward to seeing him and all of our athletes back to competition in the not too distant future.

11.01.2022 A message from Peter Cooper, CEO of the Royal Agricultural Society of WA It is with genuine sadness that, in conjunction with the State Government, we confirm ...the cancellation of the 2020 Perth Royal Show. At every step of this process, we have been working with the State Government to develop a safe event which the WA community can be proud of. However, with the continuing outbreaks of COVID-19 in the Eastern States and the reemergence of the virus in New Zealand, it has become increasingly clear that we cannot proceed while simultaneously guaranteeing the safety of the public. While there is of course disappointment in making today’s announcement; as the CEO of this distinguished, not-for-profit organisation, I feel enormous pride in the hard work; dedication and courage of all those involved in the preparations for the 2020 event. The fact that we were unable to deliver this annual showcase is no reflection on the efforts of our staff; volunteers; competitors and council. On the contrary their belief in giving the people of WA the event they deserved and their determination in the face of unprecedented challenges, should be applauded. While there will be tough decisions to be made over the next few months, one thing is certain. The Perth Royal Show will be back and we look forward to opening our gates to the thousands of showgoers, from across WA, very soon.
