This award is jointly run this year by AABR, SERA and the Barrier Field Naturalists Club (which was the club Albert helped form in 1920 and which initiated the Broken Hill Regeneration Reserves, one of the world's earliest ecological restoration projects and almost certainly the first relying on natural regeneration. 13.01.2022 Well worth a listen - Nan was one of the leaders in the fight to save Terania rainforest from logging in the late 1970s and this led to cessation of logging in rainforest. During the 2019 fires she pitched in with the battle to safe rainforest from fire. Lately she has been surveying the impacts and provides a reliable summary of impacts and what they mean to us.

12.01.2022 AABR is calling for volunteer bush regenerators capable of detailed knapsack spot-spraying to take part in a post-fire in high conservation value grassland at Bush Heritage's Scottsdale Reserve, Bredbo, from Tues 3 to Thurs 5 November. (See photos below of a similar AABR event in Scottsdale's high country grassland a fortnight ago.) Volunteers are asked to travel to Scottsdale on the preceding Monday and return home on the Friday. Anyone wishing to join this great voluntee...ring event is asked to contact David on 0421 649 112 or email [email protected] as soon as possible as places are limited. Participants will need to camp on site and provided their own meals but we can use the kitchen in the woolshed for cooking, washing-up etc. There is also a communal BBQ outside, hot showers and a wonderful campfire we can sit around to enjoy the convivial company. If COVID breaks out again, the event may have to be cancelled at short notice.

09.01.2022 URGENT: Do you have a story about dodgy environmental offsets? @naturensw is helping The Guardian compile case studies of uses and abuses of the Commonwealth Biodiversity Offsets scheme. Biodiversity offsetting is a very complex issue, which is why reporter Lisa Cox wants to focus on case studies where the system has failed rather than get into too much detail about the pros and cons of offsetting.... There are two offsets schemes that operate in NSW: the state one under the Biodiversity Conservation Act and the federal one under the Commonwealth Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act. Lisa is focusing only on the commonwealth scheme. See below for two articles she has published recently on this issue. If you know of any other examples where the scheme has failed, preferably in very obvious ways, please call or email me on 0419 272 254 or [email protected] as soon as possible to discuss.
