21.01.2022 I get at least a few emails every week asking if and when we will be bringing out an eye cream. So, I hope this helps. Good skin care for the eye area is indispensable. But you don’t necessarily have to use a special eye cream. If you’ve asked me before, I stand by this...Don’t pay more for less product. The formula/ ingredient list is more important than product label and claims. Eye creams often claim to have been formulated ‘especially’ for the thin, sensitive skin aroun...d the eyes. Brands often claim they will help you get rid of bags under the eyes, dark rings and fine lines and wrinkles, but that’s a bit misleading. The eye area will benefit from antioxidants, cell-communicating and skin-healing ingredients that will make skin cells healthier, build collagen, lighten discoloration and restore the skin barrier. If you look at the ingredient list of serums, moisturiser and eye creams, you will notice the ingredients overlap. Most of our serums work perfectly around the eye area. Our Collagen Serum, Rehydrate and Retinol Serum (introduced slowly) are great alternatives to eye serums. A dab of moisturiser mixed in or applied over will give you everything the eye area needs. Tips: AVOID: watch out for irritants, alcohol and fragrance in formulas. Formulation is key. Learn to read ingredient lists, and ignore product claims. SPF is soooo important don the biggest sunnies you can find avoid smoking and alcohol If the skin around your eye area is different to your face (eg oily on face, dry around the eyes)...then yes, you may need to use a separate product. But, it doesn’t have to be an eye cream. - Dry under eyes can benefit from a more emollient formula. - Oily under eyes will benefit from a gel based formula and avoid heavier occlusives. - Dehydrated skin - look for humectants like Glycerin, Panthenol, Sodium PCA, 1,3 Propanediol and Hyaluronic acid. Ceramides will help reduce transepidermal water loss. Listen to your skin. Some actives are strong, and can irritate the area, so be careful. While I’ve been a long time user of DE C-Firma, I’d recently stared feeling that it just didn’t seem to be performing as well as it used to for me. I’m not sure if it’s possible for your skin to loose it’s sensitivity to something over time, but that’s what it felt like. Enter @ausceuticals Vitamin C Serum. I won this in a giveaway, and it couldn’t have come at a ...better time, as I had just finished my bottle of C-Firma. . It’s early days, but so far I’m really enjoying this. It’s formulated with L-ascorbic acid, which is my preference as I feel I see faster results than with any of the derivatives. It’s formulated with ferulic acid, which is said to have a synergistic relationship with vitamin C, boosting its efficacy. The Vitamin C, E and ferulic acid mix is something we often see in more expensive formulations on the market, so I have really high hopes for this one as it’s a much, much cheaper option. It’s also in an airless pump which is great to see as it’ll help with the oxidisation that occurs with L-ascorbic acid. . I’ve already seen the disappearance of this stubborn dark mark on the side of my cheek which had been with me through thick and thin. It’s either down to this, my change of retinol, or a combination of the two. Here’s some of it super powers: PROTECTS AGAINST FREE RADICAL DAMAGE: According to the Journal of Clinical Aesthetic Dermatology, Niacinamide increases the antioxidant capacity of skin after topical application and has been found to protect from free radicals and prevent oxidative stress. ... HYPERPIGMENTATION: Niacinamide has been clinically demonstrated to effectively treat hyperpigmentation (dark spots) at topical concentrations as low as 2%. A double-blind, randomized clinical trial found that 4% niacinamide is comparable to 4% hydroquinone in the treatment of melasma, with fewer side effects and a much better safety profile. It improves skin elasticity, texture, and uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation by inhibiting the transfer of melanin to the skin cells (different to a tyrosinase inhibitor, which stops the production of melanin). Niacinamide also strengthens your skin barrier by supporting the function of your skin’s natural moisturi...sing factors including ceramides, lipids, and fatty acids. This in turn helps prevent transepidermal water loss and aids in skin hydration, regulation of sebum levels and appearance of pores. Plus, it has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
