24.01.2022 QA has released its event grid for first half of 2021. 3km States appears to be scheduled in for 13 February 2021 with the open and junior dates to be advised . Both QA and AA have now released calendars and QA has two dates for States one of which is to be selected. Dave Gwynther indicates QA will select a date shortly. Competition page for QA: https://www.qldathletics.org.au/index.cfm/competition/ Link to PDF for event grid: https://cdn.revolutionise.com.au/site/5mwacwtyethtjm6u.pdf

24.01.2022 With restrictions starting to lift its only a matter of time before we get back into athletes. So I will post a number of sessions that you can do to get you back into fitness. The first is the 'Mini Murph' its really straight forward and is a great all over body workout that does not require too much thinking. Give it a go I think you will be impressed with how much it gives you for such a short session.... Soruce: https://youtu.be/9M93vu6uJl8

24.01.2022 Payton off to a good start with a silver in the QLAA regionals.

23.01.2022 It seems that formal training will not be permitted until 12 June at the earliest. Last Sunday was a good session for all involved, so we will reprise next Sunday at 9am at UQ. Athletes bring along plenty of water etc. Parents and supporters, there is some great walking and riding tracks at UQ .So come along for some great exercise whilst your athletes do a little bit more. The session will be for about 1 hour and all COVID19 precautions apply to one and all.

21.01.2022 ANQ has been worthwhile with a Gold performance by Jye in a race filled with many challenges including a undone shoelace! Not good in a 5 km race that's for sure. I have been helping some athletes from Mackay and there were very good performances by the Barron sisters Ava and Maya with PB's and winning performances. But it will be soon time to head home and the song 'take the long way home' from Supertramp keeps playing on the radio... I wonder if that is a omen!

20.01.2022 There has been no guidance yet from QA or AA as to when, where and how competition will begin again. But interestingly ANQ has released competition dates for later in this year. As to what that competition may look like and how its going to be undertaken has yet to be stated. With the NRL and other sports gearing up to start, its obvious sport is now back on the state and national agenda.... Whether ANQ has jumped the gun or has some inside knowledge, we don't know, but it does suggest we may be starting to move towards the resumption of some sort of normality. So I hope everyone has enjoyed a good break from training but its perhaps time to turn our mind to getting prepared for the future. https://www.revolutionise.com.au/athleticsnor//&cat=2949/

18.01.2022 A good Sunday morning session

17.01.2022 Hi everyone I would like to move towards a structured warm up for all of the group. Lets see how the following one works for everyone. (The youtube links give a visual demonstration of some of those exercises)... We can modify as necessary to ensure it is timely I would like to move to 1. 400 mt jog 2. Ankle rocks x 10 3. Hip rotators x 10 ( 5 each side) 4. Ankle Rocks 10 5. Hip Mobility 10 6. Ankle Pumps 30 seconds 7. Trunk Rotation Knee Drives 20 8. Leg Swings (front to back) 10 9. Leg Swings (side to side) 10 10. Air Squats 10 11. Bent Knee side plank (2 sets of 10 x 10 second holds on each side): The bent knee side plank is a great example of any exercise which strengthens both sets of glutes at once! Your bottom leg will be using your glutes to abduct the hip and drive the knee into the ground, while your top leg will be using your butt muscles to abduct your hip in lifting your leg to the horizontal position. Aim for 12. Glute bridges. (Aim for 10 x 10 second holds with the Glute Bridge). This is a classic gluteal strengthening exercise; however lots of runners actually perform their glute bridges incorrectly. Follow the tips in this video to learn how better to target your butt muscles with a bridge exercise, rather than allowing your hamstrings or lower back to dominate the movement. 13. Reverse lunges. (Aim for 3 sets of 15 on each leg). This is a great lunge variation for runners as it protects the knee, particularly the patellofemoral joint (knee cap). Runners with a history of runners’ knee should consider this as a great leg strengthening exercise, and not just one for the glutes! 14. Runners arabesque. (Aim for 3 sets of 15 on each) l This arabesque variation is the most challenging of these four glute exercises for runners. Once you've mastered the glute activation exercises at the start of this collection, practicing this single-leg exercise will certainly improve your balance and stability, while training your glutes to control movement at the hips... which is exactly what us runners need. 15. A skips x 2 over 20 mts 16. 20 mt runs x 2 https://youtu.be/uyYyB7eXAhs https://youtu.be/sfF4f-QGRn8

17.01.2022 Andrews idea of a high jump warm up. A 200 sprint.

08.01.2022 The second session is one for those who might not be keen about leaving home and would rather work out in private. The following session is a combination of cardio, body weight and stretching. It looks pretty easy but if you manage to finish it all then you have done really well! Source: https://youtu.be/qWy_aOlB45Y

07.01.2022 Last Sunday's session proved it had been a long COVID break for some and functional stability was not as good as it could be. The following is a great basic workout and some, if not all, of the exercises will feature in future sessions. Please make yourself familiar with the exercises and you are welcome to try them. https://youtu.be/4gdL-I6rhFg

07.01.2022 A nice PB in the 200 for nick before the rains came

03.01.2022 And high jump for Andrew

03.01.2022 It looks like there is some light at the end of the COVID19 tunnel and I hope that this new dawn finds you all well, employed and ready to get back to things. If you look at the posts from QA and AA it looks like they are planning on bringing back competition in either late December or early January. There are a myriad of personal trainers and the like getting on line to help you get back into shape. Whilst well meaning they do not really focus on our sport. ... I have been starting to look around for content and I found this little gem on line. Its well worth a look. https://altis.world/sprintfit-a-guide-to-sprinting-for-fit/

02.01.2022 A great finish to the day with a Silver to Ash in the 400!

01.01.2022 Hi everyone don’t forget there will be another session on Sunday at UQ at 9am for those who are keen

01.01.2022 Urgent: QSAC has now allowed training... But... we have to book on line and the usual entry fee is to be billed directly to the coach. So if you nominate you are going to attend and you bail you will still need to pay the $5 entry fee. With my group we are permitted training on Monday and Friday. Michael is going to book for Wed and another day. Can you please email/text/phone me if you are going to attend this Friday ASAP and next week Monday and Friday. We have to notify QSAC 24 hrs before the event to secure out booking. Sorry about the short notice but hey that's QSAC for you. Please let me know if you are interested in this Friday ASAP and let me know your schedule for next week.

01.01.2022 Merry Christmas everyone! Have a great break and enjoy family, food and fun!
