23.01.2022 Equity Pride Survey! A recently formed 'Equity Pride', a sub-committee within the Equity Diversity Committee with MEAA have commissioned a survey to gather information from LGBTQIA+ performers on what it’s like working in the industry as a performer. They want to hear from both Equity & non-Equity members to help them gauge a sense of what is widely felt in the industry. ... Australian dance company Lingalayam presents a selection of items conceived on the Pancha Nadais, directed by legendary guru dancer, choreographer, and teacher Anandavalli.... In the tradition of classical Indian music and dance of South India, the five basic rhythmical sequences in the beats of three (tisram), four (chatusram), five (khandam), seven (misram) and nine (sankeernam) are the basic principles in formulating a rhythmical configuration. These set beat patterns, referred to as the pancha nadais within a given cycle of rhythm, are used to create countless combinations of rhythmical configurations. 20.01.2022 **COMMUNITY SPORT / DANCE COMPETITIONS UPDATE** NSW Health has announced the following updates to community sport, affecting dance competitions: - Community sport can now recommence without restricting competitions to zones (as long as a COVID Safety Plan is in place). - More than one parent may now attend community sporting activities if physical distancing can be maintained between people that are not from the same household. ... - Ensure strict compliance with all other elements of the COVID Safety Plan. - Organisations and participants should continue to avoid shared travel arrangements such as car pooling and to minimise gatherings before and after the event. 15.01.2022 EOI: Writer to Respond to Ausdance 2020 Dance Artists in Residence Showcase Brand X Ausdance NSW is looking for dance writers to respond to an inaugural live/screen showcase by this year’s Dance Artists in Residents (DAIRs). Culturally and Linguistically Diverse, Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Indigenous and First Nations, Deaf and/or Disabled dancers, choreographers, educators, researchers and writers are particularly encouraged to submit an expression of interest. Exp...ressions of interest should include a 50-word bio, your CV and a sample piece of writing (ideally about dance). The piece will be between 750-1000 and the writer will be paid an honorarium. 11.01.2022 The Ministry of Health have confirmed that dance activity is included in the new recommendations for community sport. This means that dance programs, competitions and performances will need to stop the intermingling of participants from different regions in NSW and age groups. Unlike some sports, dance has not operated according to zoning before. Ausdance NSW is working now to develop a zoned map for dance to assist dance businesses operate safely. This is new work for us a...nd will take some time. Dance eisteddfods are advised to use a COVID Safety plan for sporting competitions. These measures will be in place for 6 weeks to reduce the spread of COVID-19. 11.01.2022 Following up from information last week that dance competitions are affected by the new recommendations for community sport, we have been working closely with the Office for Sport and have sought advice from Fitness Australia, Sport NSW and other peaks working with industries similar to dance who do not normally operate in zones, to understand how best to advise the dance community. Here are the regional and metro zones we recommend using to determine the boundaries for danc...e activity in the state in accordance with the latest government recommendations. These recommendations are for a period of 6 weeks and will be reassessed at the end of September. 10.01.2022 Dance has always been an important part of my life. I have enjoyed going to dance classes regularly since a young child. I loved taking my RAD ballet exams and being with my dance family. It’s so important that children and parents are reassured at the moment, especially when faced with the changes COVID-19 has made necessary...The connection and creativity that dance class provides is so beneficial for this age group.
