25.01.2022 We are excited to launch ‘Moving My Way’ a teaching and learning resource for dance educators and students. The ‘Moving My Way’ project was born out of the cancellation of 2020 Ausdance Educators Queensland’s annual conference due to restrictions imposed by COVID-19. This resource connects educators and students with practising artists by providing insight into their creative processes and professional practice. The first project pack a video interview and 26 pages of ac...companying resources features Queensland-based artist Richard Causer. Explore his choreographic process through this unique resource created by practising dance teachers. Ausdance QLD would like to thank the Ausdance Educators Queensland committee for their hard work and dedication to making this project happen. To purchase the resources head to the ADQ website here https://ausdanceqld.org.au/mmw
24.01.2022 LIVE-STREAMED END-OF-YEAR EVENTS Music rights management organisation APRA AMCOS today re-stated that those planning to use their music in a live-streamed end-of-year event need to 1. first arrange a live-stream licence for the musical works (songs) as well as... 2. a separate licence with any record labels for the sound recordings. Contact details for record labels can be found through ARIA or an internet search. If any organisation live-streaming works protected by copyright fail to secure these licences, their live-stream may be subject to a 'takedown' (the removal of content from the internet - essentially your channel/content is deleted). OneMusic Australia covers public performance licensing for physical events, but not live-streamed events. More information is available on the APRA AMCOS website. https://apraamcos.com.au//apra-amcos-advice-for-music-cus/

22.01.2022 The Dance (Lens) series highlights outstanding Dance Films from Australia and internationally with artist Q&As. On-screen narratives are produced by the rhythmic combination of takes, jump-cuts, wipes, fade-ins and fade-outs where the camera itself becomes a choreographic tool that extends beyond the physical boundarie...s of the body and the stage. Dance (Lens) explores the embodiment and disembodiment of dance, speculative stages, screening history and the communal dance of watching from the other side of the screen. 20.01.2022 *** IMPORTANT UPDATE - SOCIAL DANCING *** Section 15 of the Restrictions to businesses, activities, and undertakings direction (No.5) states: A person who owns, controls or operates a restricted business, activity or undertaking that includes a dance floor, other than a dance studio or dance class, must not operate that dance floor for dancing. The Health Department interpretation of this is that ‘social dances’ or ‘dance parties’ are not permitted under the current restric...tions. However, partnered dance activities with an instructional or practice element may be conducted by Dance Businesses with the conditions of the Dance and Physical Performing Arts (DPPA) Industry COVID Safe Plan applied. There have been some recent events where activities have been ceased by the COVID task force due to complaints lodged with local authorities about community practitioners conducting ‘social dance’ activities. It is important for Dance Businesses to: Comply with all the required conditions of the DPPA Plan Have compliance statement and notice of entry conditions displayed prominently at the venue entry point Ensure that the dance activity conducted has an instructional or practice-based element Communicate and Promote their activity to alleviate confusion and potential public concern E.g. Example Dance Company PTY LTD will be holding a partnering session on DDMMYY Have enhanced sanitation protocols for contact activities such as sanitation between changing partners. The Public Health Authority has advised that businesses conducting ‘social dances’ are at risk of receiving a fine for failing to comply with the public health directive. If you have any questions relating to the applicability and compliance of your activity please do not hesitate to contact Ausdance QLD [email protected] for further guidance.

17.01.2022 Here in the Ausdance QLD office, were acutely aware of the timeliness of the need to ask R U OK? Covid-19 has made it much harder for members of our dance community to deliver their usual offerings and almost impossible to receive the usual appreciative response. And lets face it, thats like having your reason for living taken away from you! This short blog (https://www.mindwise.org//menta/dancing-and-mental-health/) on the benefits of dance to our mental health spell...s out what we have all been missing. CHANGE has been a huge part of everyones experience this year, and the extent of that change puts stress on our wellbeing. Take time out for yourself today; call colleagues and friends to ask R U OK? Acknowledge and appreciate all the ways youve coped with the stresses of this year, all the ways you have sought help and all the creative choices youve made to make to keep moving. Acknowledge yourself for getting this far! Please have the courage to speak with a professional counsellor if the stress is overwhelming. Go well.

10.01.2022 **Ideas Worth Sharing** We thought wed share a plan from Kylie Brown at Elite Dance Academy in our new series (just making this up now as were typing) Ideas Worth Sharing. We will all have to be incredibly creative and flexible as we enter into performance season combined with COVID challenges. LUCKILY, dancers are incredibly creative and flexible so heres our first idea worth sharing . Elite Dance Academy are filming their concert and showing it at a local cinem...a. This simplifies things enormously as..... cinemas already have ticketing/physical distancing plans in place, only one plan required (Events) for the event itself, and you can focus on your audiences. You can also run several screenings without impacting too much on your costs. Kylies Plan B (and we all need plans A, B and C) is to hold it at the local drive-thru cinema if necessary. Well done Kylie and team! #AusdanceQLDideasworthsharing #ausdanceQLD

05.01.2022 *** Hands up who knows what advocacy is? *** Advocacy is listening to you, working out the issues, and amplifying your voices and your needs to those who are able to meet them. Sometimes thats us, sometimes it is State or local governments and sometimes it is the federal government. In the past six months weve sent and received 624 emails and made 1032 telephone calls relating directly to this mysterious (not so much!) advocacy work, not including those by Stephen ...Stewart in relation to the Dance and Physical Performing Arts Covid Safe Plan. As we go forward into unchartered territory well be asking you for regular information its SO vital to add your voice and experiences to the conversation. NOTHING will be achieved or gained without the evidence to prove it. This week, Ausdance National is collecting information about how Jobseeker and Jobkeeper have worked for you and/or your business (or not, as the case may be) so they are able to feed this back to national conversations. Well also use this information at State level to work out where the gaps are and how we could possible help fill them. The survey is for dancers, teachers, choreographers, producers, businesses.EVERYONE who earns an income from dance! Please can you take 5-10 minutes to do this survey? The more Queensland voices we have, the better it is for all of us..promise! Were hoping for at least 500 responses from Queensland members within the next week please!

01.01.2022 Here in the Ausdance QLD office, we’re acutely aware of the timeliness of the need to ask R U OK? Covid-19 has made it much harder for members of our dance community to deliver their usual offerings and almost impossible to receive the usual appreciative response. And let’s face it, that’s like having your reason for living taken away from you! This short blog (https://www.mindwise.org//menta/dancing-and-mental-health/) on the benefits of dance to our mental health spell...s out what we have all been missing. CHANGE has been a huge part of everyone’s experience this year, and the extent of that change puts stress on our wellbeing. Take time out for yourself today; call colleagues and friends to ask R U OK? Acknowledge and appreciate all the ways you’ve coped with the stresses of this year, all the ways you have sought help and all the creative choices you’ve made to make to keep moving. Acknowledge yourself for getting this far! Please have the courage to speak with a professional counsellor if the stress is overwhelming. Go well.
