24.01.2022 If any club has not already participated in the Sports Foundation COVID survey, clubs still have a few days to do so. With just a few days to go until the survey closes on Friday 19 June, we have had over 4500 responses, from clubs all over the country, and representing 125 different sport types. This provides a great set of data to assess the impact on different sports and in different geographies; however, we’d still like to push this up to 5,000 and more in the remaining d...ays, as the more responses we get, the more impactful our analysis will be. https://www.facebook.com/AustralianSportsFoundation/posts/1531588367018978 Media interest Clubs may have seen that the survey is already gaining considerable media interest. For example, Sports Foundation provided some interim analysis for ABC’s 7.30 program last week (see https://www.abc.net.au//coronavirus-restrictions-/12346556 and an associated article https://www.abc.net.au//24000-community-sport-clu/12344156) while the survey was also discussed on ABC’s Q&A program on The Future of Sport on Monday 15 June.

14.01.2022 Play by the Rules has partnered with Griffith University to conduct some important research and we'd really appreciate your help. Griffith University are seeking the views of board members of Australian local sport clubs via an international research study across four countries (Australia, Canada, Germany, United States). The study involves the completion of an online research survey to explore sport leaders’ perceptions of resources and management practices in community spo...rt organizations and clubs. The survey should take about 15-20 minutes to complete. The findings of the research will help improve the community sport sector by informing the design and development of education and training sources for sport clubs to minimize their vulnerability to fraud. At the end of the survey, you will have the opportunity to request a summary of the results of the study and enter your name into a draw for one of five $100 Rebel Sport gift cards. 12.01.2022 AusDBF encourages everyone in the dragon boat community to support National Skin Cancer Week (15-21 November). This is an important reminder to use sun protection and of the importance of early skin cancer detection for all Australians. Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, including melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers. Every year in Australia skin cancers account for around 80% of all newly diagnosed cancers. Around 2000 people die from this ...disease every year. However, more than 95% of skin cancer cases are caused by unprotected exposure to UV radiation from the sun, meaning it is a nearly entirely preventable cancer. There are five simple things you can do to protect yourself and greatly reduce your risk of skin cancer. 1. Slip on sun-protective clothing 2. Slop on SPF30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen at least 20 minutes before you go outdoors and reapply every two hours afterwards 3. Slap on a broad-brim hat to protect your face, head, neck and ears. 4. Seek shade 5. Slide on sunglasses make sure they meet Australian standards https://www.cancer.org.au//national-skin-cancer-action-week

01.01.2022 Sport Integrity Australia has been working closely with the Therapeutic Goods Administration to increase the regulation around supplements to help athletes. Good news! TGA have now changed the rules to clarify that sports supplements which meet a certain criteria will have to undergo greater regulation. This means that any supplement which make claims relating to performance in sport, exercise or recreational activity and includes higher risk ingredients such as those in th...e Poisons Standard or the World Anti-Doping Code Prohibited List, will from 30 November 2020 be subject to new manufacturing, formulation, labelling, evidence and advertising standards. Supplements that include banned ingredients without going through the regulatory process above can face significant fines and penalties under the TGA Act. While this is a positive step in helping to protect athlete through the greater regulation of products with higher risk ingredients, athletes must not become complacent. Even with these protections the anti-doping risk remains and athletes need to remain diligent about using batch-testing products. More information can be found at Sport Integrity Australia website https://www.sportintegrity.gov.au//changes-supplements-reg
