25.01.2022 'In Australia, various policies around income tax, birth and childcare support payments combine to form a significant financial disincentive for such families that wish or choose to have children, particularly, three or more children.' Check out our article below for a clear explanation and comparison between two Australian families - and how they are treated very different by the ATO #fairfamilyfunding Not happy? 20.01.2022 LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Believe it or not, one of the best ways of getting a message out these days is still a good old fashioned Letter to the Editor. We're thrilled to see these thoughtful contributors in National Civic Council & News Weekly (28 November edition). ... **Parents are working all right** Luke McCormack touches on a crucial issue in his article on childcare (News Weekly, October 31, 2020): Parents are working alright, whether paid or unpaid. A prime difference is that a mother stacking supermarket shelves so that she can put her children into day-care is a part of the gross national product. A mother looking after her children at home is invisible. It is understandable that women have objected to this culture of invisibility. The woman certainly takes a greater risk in the marriage relationship. In consummating the marriage, the husband has a fleeting experience of great pleasure; from which he can then walk away at least as society now functions. The mother is committed to nine months of discomfort and drastic change in lifestyle. In the normal course of events the mother’s care for her children after birth, will be personal and close. In short, the mother’s commitment to her children is all embracing and fundamental. However, it can also be invisible and devastating. A healthy family is clearly intended to obviate this devastation and so provide the basis for a healthy society. John H. Cooney, Cowwarr, Vic. --- **Three cheers for mother care** It was pleasing to read (News Weekly, October 31, 2020) Luke McCormack’s defence of mother care in our present age, when the non-parental care debate has long ceased to be (in Prime Minister John Howard’s words) a barbecue stopper. The childcare victory is complete in public policy and public discourse. What is saddest is there no longer seems to be any conception that women could actually like being with their children and embrace rearing them with sensitivity to each child’s individual sensibilities, and helping them acquire the intellectual and artistic riches and the inherited values of our culture. The list of reasons for mothers’ non-employment in the research quoted gives at best preference, linked with being busy, as if this were just a product of being overworked domestically, with no hint or acknowledgement of the unique joys and commitment that inform this preference. My years at home with my little children were the happiest of my life in an era when the tax system limited its predations in relation to the number of persons (including children) dependent on an income. 18.01.2022 Around one in five pregnancies ends in miscarriage before 20 weeks. It's not something that's talked about much nor is it formally recognised as either a birt...h or death. And those who've experienced early pregnancy loss often find themselves dealing with it alone, with no real way of expressing their grief. This won't be everyone's choice. But hopefully it'll help bereaved parents mourn the child they never got to meet.

14.01.2022 Dr Maria Menkens speaks on the vital psychological foundation of parent care during the first few years of life - and how current government funding policies discriminate against this care. 12.01.2022 'Advocates claim this could have helped parents to work more, as well as creating jobs in a sector dominated by women.' Once again, we're seeing the idea that #parents simply don't work enough. That by raising their #children, they're being lazy and avoiding #work. Nothing could be further from the truth. We say: #Parenthood IS work. ... If you're just as outraged as we are by this attitude, then sign our petition for the government to recognise parenthood as legitimate work in funding and taxation models: https://ncc.org.au/project/fair-family-taxation/ #auspol #AusNews #ausecon

07.01.2022 'Between March and October, it was alleged the company received more than $500,000 in fraudulent subsidy claims.' Not surprising these kind of things happen when you consider that our Government considers child care to be a for-profit business. Profits have to come from somewhere. Who misses out? Parents and children. ... Let's consider who the system is REALLY benefitting. #fairfamilyfunding SIGN OUR PETITION: https://ncc.org.au/project/fair-family-taxation/ #auspol #AusNews #AussieFamily
