25.01.2022 Nitrate poisoning from Cape and Marshmallow weed. We have recent fielded a couple of calls regarding losses from animals grazing pastures containing these two weeds particularly around yards and camps where nitrogenous organic matter has accumulated. The signs to look out for are distinctly brown eyes where usually red, blood tends to be a chocolatey colour and animals can go down and thrash about to exhaustion.... Prevention is key. * Keep animals full (not hungry) particularly where Cape and Marsh mallow are prolific. * Offer palatable hay during prolonged periods of feed eg. in yards * Spray areas (including yards) of accumulated weeds well in advance of stock access. Treatment... Speak to AusFarm Nutrition Products in regards to management and nutritional assistance.

24.01.2022 Care needs to be taken in regards to grazing Pattersons Curse across all livestock species. It contains harmful toxins that can impair liver function therefore affecting general animal health and ultimately production. It is not recommended that breeding stock are exposed to this weed for extended periods. StockMins-Detox is a supplement, from ANP, that can assist in reducing toxicity problems and encourage improved liver function when consumed in conjunction with similar noxious weeds.

23.01.2022 Lame ewes and lambs are beginning to pose real risks to production and profit. The original and the best hoof supplement is StockMins-Hoof ‘n’ Horn. It combines the elevated and available mineral, vitamin and trace element status of StockMins-EweLamLac with above RDI levels of organic zinc, biotin and iodine to address lambing nutrition, hoof growth, hoof hardening and fight infection. https://drive.google.com//1xs-zS1OXfSnB54Uv6sGJOtWOF/view

23.01.2022 New Season Barley From initial analysis conducted by ANP, it looks like new season barley will be higher in starch/energy but lower in protein than in previous years. Indications so far show exceptionally high yields but protein levels hovering between 10-11% on average. ANP strongly recommends to get your grain and forage tested if you are aiming at optimum production. It is likely that grain will be used to supplement sheep and lambs at pasture, but it should be noted that ...pasture protein level declines by grazing and with weathering. It is therefore likely that a protein supplement will be needed to meet growth requirements. Lupins, canola pellets and ANP’s Protein-N are all suitable for trailing out or mixing in-feed. Similarly for lamb feedlots, special consideration of protein levels will be necessary to optimise performance... From ANP, StockMins-Lamb Grower (28% protein) and StockMins-HiPro (27% protein) are worth considering as an in-feed or free access, water resistant, loose lick supplement designed for these conditions.

11.01.2022 Managing weeds require caution, not ‘panic’! Looking at the abundance of forage and stubbles there seems to be feed forever! But beneath the canopy lies a growing problem.... Dormant hairy panic seeds, spread last season, have started to germinate with abundance and the recent rains has provided it with encouragement to grow. Sheep find hairy panic to be quite palatable and they will eat it by choice. From a nutrient perspective, it is valuable feed offering good protein and energy. But with it comes anti-nutrient toxins that play havoc with the liver. Initial outward signs in sheep and lambs are red watery eyes and facial scabs. At this point internal damage has already begun. Toxin binders are available. They are designed to be consumed together with the toxic feed rendering the toxins inert. Over the years, ANP’s StockMins-DeTox has proved to be very successful through its multiple modes of action. StockMins-DeTox not only supplies an effective toxin binder but it is also designed to enhance immunity and tissue repair. Don’t wait for symptoms to show, offer StockMins-DeTox as a free access, water resistant, loose lick as soon as you see hairy panic, heliotrope, goosefoot and other toxic weeds emerging. Remember, young plants tend to be the most palatable but also the most toxic!

11.01.2022 A fantastic opportunity to contribute towards a collaborative exploration of Bloat and its costly impact on animal health, welfare and ultimately production. Hopefully this sort of survey can encourage further investment and research into a persistant on farm threat.

10.01.2022 This is an issue that affects most classes of stock and can have serious consequences on fertility, production and general health. There are three key approaches to managing heat stress in your stock. 1. Adjust the environment (shade and sprinklers) 2. Nutritional management (specific supplementary feed management)... 3. Genetic manipulation Of these, only the first two can be employed in the short term.

08.01.2022 More advice regarding the need for trace minerals in addition to Magnesium, Calcium, Sodium and Phospherous supplementation despite the exceptional feed growth so far this season. This supports the well found notion that CausMag Lime and Salt is not enough for optimum production.
