24.01.2022 SCAM ALERT Is it just me or are these scams getting more complicated than the plot of Tenet? Weve been getting reports of scams involving cold calling through automated phone services. The calls claim to be from a range of government agencies, including the AFP, Department of Home Affairs, Services Australia and the ATO. They then transfer through to an operator who asks for money. ... Remember - the AFP will NEVER request payment of fines or other money over the phone. Do not give out bank details over the phone, or make transfers to banks accounts as directed by fraudsters. When we post scam alerts like this, people often share how they annoy the scammers. While good for a laugh, that doesnt stop them targeting others. If you get a call like this HANG UP and report it to the Australian Cyber Security Centre or local police as soon as you can. #MNightScamALoan #ChristopherNoLoan

23.01.2022 Does the term Money Mule make you think of a donkey carrying wads of cash, or is it just me? Sadly, most Money Mules are actually people. And they are more likely to be victims of a scam who don’t even know they are involved in illegal money laundering activity. These scams often relate to work-from-home jobs, online romances or even prizes. Scammers will send money to your bank account, then ask you to send some of it to someone else. Sometime they ask you to use gift card...s or wire transfers. What they won’t tell you is the money is stolen and they are using your good name to get it further away from the people they have stolen it from. In reality, there never was a legitimate job, prize or a relationship only the illusion of one. And yes, that last line sums up my dating life too... Criminals, just like your ex, are good at making up reasons to help them. By participating in these scams you are helping criminal hurt people just like you. If an online offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Especially if they want to send money to your bank account. #DontBeAMule more info here: https://www.europol.europa.eu//public-awarene/money-muling

20.01.2022 Not sure about you guys, but I dont remember pass the parcel ever involving welding machines, safes or cocaine, and it definitely didnt involve attempting to import drugs into the country. And before anyone gets ideas it doesnt and never will. It feels like a timely reminder after AFP and Australian Border Force officers charged a 46-year-old man over an alleged plot to import 20kgs of cocaine with an estimated street value of $20 million - into South Australia from Gr...eece. ABF officers in South Australia selected an air cargo consignment labelled as welding for examination last week and discovered quite an elaborate set up. First up there was a wooden crate containing two welding machines. When ABF officers removed a panel from one piece of machinery they found an electronic safe. Inside the safe was nine rectangular packages. Inside the packages was a white powder. Further forensic work by AFP discovered 18 packages containing a total of approximately 20kgs of cocaine. The man was arrested during search warrants yesterday and charged with importing a commercial quantity of border controlled drugs. This offence carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

20.01.2022 Things we need to stop saying to men: - Man up - Boys don’t cry - Men and boys don’t need help ... This year’s International Men’s Day theme is about better health for men and boys. Today on IMD 2020 we say thanks to the fathers, husbands, brothers and sons across our AFP. Look after yourselves and thank you for all that you do.
20.01.2022 PSA: The tooth fairy accepts molars, premolars, incisors and canine teethnot Beretta pistols. In fact, possession of drugs and firearms is more likely to get you a visit from the AFP than the tooth fairy, as two Melbourne men discovered in June 2019 when they were arrested as part of an investigation into to a syndicate trafficking both methamphetamine and heroin in Melbourne. During search warrants on properties Docklands and Sunshine North, AFP officers seized 2,747.2g pu...re methamphetamine, 324.1g pure heroin, six bottles containing Butanediol, $318,170 cash, multiple scales, a cash counting machine, drug paraphernalia, acetone (alleged to be for the purpose of washing methamphetamine), ammunition and a loaded Beretta brand pistol which was located under a pillow on the bed. The two men plead guilty to range of charges and were recently sentenced to a combined 19 years, 6 months in jail. Remember: Tooth under pillow = a visit from tooth fairy. Guns and illicit drugs under pillow = a visit from the AFP. #TodayILearnt #TIL

17.01.2022 National Child Protection Week is celebrating its 30th year in 2020, with the theme Putting children first The AFP is urging all Australians to confront the realities of child exploitation and its prevalence in our community. It is easy to turn scroll past the almost daily news of another child exploitation bust. But no one saved their kids by covering their ears or eyes.... It is time to listen up and put our kids first. We need parents and caregivers to understand how their children are being targeted, how technology invites strangers into their kids bedrooms and to partner with us to fight this insidious crime. If it takes a village to raise a child, it now takes a country to keep them safe. Australians cannot relinquish this duty and the AFP will never relinquish this duty. 17.01.2022 It could be the most peak 2020 thing yet a 42-year-old man was arrested yesterday after allegedly trying to pick up a package that had 20kg of meth hidden inside the pieces of a portable medical disinfectant tunnel. The pieces of the device included a water pump, fuse box, tubing and a stand that was covered in fake grass. #fourseasonslandscaping He was charged with one count of attempt to possess a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug, contrary to section 307.5 (1) of the Criminal Code 1995 (Cth). The maximum penalty for this offence is life imprisonment.
16.01.2022 The hard part really is going through the material and knowing that you’ve met this child before. Damian Mair and Emily McFarlane are two of the AFP investigators who were at the initial search warrants for Operation Arkstone which uncovered an online network of alleged child sex offenders. The alleged offenders are accused of producing and/or sharing child abuse material to an online network of Australian and overseas peers.

Supt Travers presented Mr Rugendyke with a replacement National Meda...l, AFP Service Medal and Certificate of Service and then joined him for lunch and a tour of his new house. Mr Rugendyke has dedicated his life to helping others, serving as a police officer with the AFP and ACT Policing for 18 years, and a member of the ACT Legislative Assembly for 4 years. He is currently a Volunteer Firefighter with the NSW Rural Fire Service and along with his wife Barb, has provided foster care to over 400 children over the past 35 years.
16.01.2022 Monday fact - mustard is made by grinding mustard seeds and mixing them into a liquid, which releases the enzymes and oils that give mustard its bite. What it is not a key ingredient of mustard is LIQUID METH! This should go without saying attempting to import drugs into Australia doesn’t cut the mustard. Australian authorities last week arrested four members of an alleged transnational criminal syndicate and seized 560kg of liquid methamphetamine hidden inside 1600 bottl...es of yellow mustard. This is the largest importation of liquid methamphetamine in Victoria and a result that was achieved in partnership with Australian Border Force and Victoria Police. While we are keen as mustard to see these drugs off our streets, we do not relish the fact that criminals continue to prey on our community. Their illicit products cause drugrelated crime and misery, along with associated health and social costs. And you thought wholegrain mustard was seedy!

13.01.2022 Imagine working on something for nine years. That’s the length of the entire series of Seinfeld. For our foreign bribery investigators, that’s how long they spent to secure an arrest for Op TRIG.... Yesterday, they arrested one man in Brisbane, and issued a further two arrest warrants, relating to approximately USD $77.6 million in suspicious payments. We allege these were made by a company to secure two contracts for developing and installing oil pipelines to increase the capacity of Iraq’s crude oil export. A team of dedicated AFP investigators spent much of the past nine years obtaining statements from witnesses based around the world, seizing more than two million documents, and gathering evidence held in 10 different countries. They persevered in piecing together this jigsaw, and have now reached a point where these serious allegations can be tested in court.

12.01.2022 Child Protection, we’re looking after the most vulnerable people in the community we’re speaking for the young victims, who don’t have a voice in society, they’re that vulnerable The close working relationships between AFP investigators and their counterparts in NSW Police Force played a key role in charging the alleged offenders involved in the online network unravelled through Operation Arkstone. AFP investigator Aiden Lister and NSW Police Detective Chief Inspector Neil Snowdon speak on protecting the most vulnerable in our society and the lasting impacts Child Protection investigations have on the children, the families, and the community.

The reach of this operation is global, with 146 referrals now sent to law enforcement worldwide about possible offending. Three arrests have already been made in the US.... This investigation is not over. The alleged offenders are still going through court processes. And since the time we filmed this, further child victims were identified. In part one, Phillip Chaves from U.S. Embassy Canberra Immigration And Customs Enforcement (ICE) and AFP child protections investigator Scott Veltmeyer, explain how the operation unfolded from Australia to the United States.

10.01.2022 Trigger Warning: *Child abuse* One arrest uncovered a sordid network of alleged child sex offenders and triggered one of the most significant child protection investigations by the AFP to date. The AFP-led Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation received a report from the US National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in February about an online user allegedly uploading child abuse material.... AFP Eastern Command Child Protection Operations investigators identified the suspect and arrested him on the Central Coast that same month. As investigators delved further into the man’s activities and reviewed electronic evidence, they discovered social media forums where some members were allegedly producing CAM, while others were accessing and circulating the material. To date, Operation Arkstone has identified 46 child victims across Australia and led to the arrest of 14 men on 828 charges of child exploitation, and bestiality charges related to four animals. Each warrant led to the discovery of more alleged offenders and more children to be saved from ongoing abuse. AFP investigators have worked tirelessly with counterparts in NSW Police Force, Queensland Police Service, Western Australia Police Force, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration And Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Embassy Canberra to identify the alleged offenders involved in the online social media forums. 07.01.2022 **Trigger warning: Themes of violence, sexual abuse, sexual assault and slavery** Australian Federal Police officers arrested a 40-year-old NSW man last week for alleged slavery and sexual servitude offences. AFP human trafficking investigators have been assessing allegations of potential sexual servitude offences by the man under Operation Saintes.... Police allege the man recruited and manipulated an alleged victim from 2012 to 2015 for a so-called cult, the victim was later subjected to ongoing physical, sexual and psychological abuse and degradation. It is alleged the woman was engaged in prostitution under the man’s coercive control, was physically assaulted by the man, and upon expressing wishes to leave, was subjected to death threats. The man, who refers to himself as the leader of a group known as the ‘House of Cadifor’, is alleged to have been living with six women at a property on the outskirts of Armidale at the time leading to his arrest. The women had signed documents known as slavery contracts, and were in the alleged ‘possession’ of the man. The man has been charged with three slavery and sexual servitude offences under modern slavery laws in the Commonwealth criminal code. Slavery offences carry a maximum penalty of 25 years in jail, while servitude offences carry a maximum 15-year term, or 20 years for aggravated offences. The charges to date relate to one alleged victim. Investigations remain ongoing, and further charges relating to further potential victims cannot be ruled out. 06.01.2022 Oh buoy! Here's a tale of high stakes on the high seas that does KNOT have a ferry-tale ending. Australian authorities have arrested a 27-year-old South Australian man and seas-ed approximately 200kg of cocaine located on board a nauti vessel, off the New South Wales coast. The AFP established Operation Poitiers, after receiving intelligence a-boat a cargo vessel allegedly containing a large quantity of cocaine bound for Australia. ... Australian authorities tracked the cargo vessel on its voyage and allegedly observed the man sail a smaller vessel to meet the MSC JOANNA off the coast of Sydney before sunrise yesterday. At this point, police allege 11 crates, full to the gunwales with blocks of cocaine, were offloaded from the MSC JOANNA at sea and transported to the smaller vessel. Police took the wind out of the metaphorical sails of the plan when they said 'ahoy' to the smaller vessel as it made its way to shore. At which point the man was arrested and the vessel was transported to Balmain. If found guilty, the oar-deal will see the man face up to 25 years in jail. Operation Poitiers is a joint operation with our piers at New South Wales Police Force, Australian Border Force, New South Wales Crime Commission and the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission. #knotimpressed

04.01.2022 The AFP has charged a 28-year-old Sydney man with importation offences after a shipment of fridges was found to allegedly have 180 kilos of ice hidden inside. Which struck everyone as suspicious because they werent plugged in at the time AFP officers in Melbourne traced the importation to an address in the Sydney suburb of Chipping North where investigators executed a search warrant and arrested the man on Wednesday. During the warrant an encrypted phone, allegedly fraudule...nt documents and an estimated $250,000 in cash were also seized. The seized meth is worth up to $135 million on the street and had it not been picked up by the joint efforts of Australian Border Force and the AFP, could have caused untold misery in the community. Turns out attempting to import ice in fridges is not cool.

Liquid meth hidden in cans of coconut milk - Illegal - High in potential death - Also not milk Two people have been arrested in Western Sydney and an estimated 600 litres of liquid methamphetamine concealed inside cans of coconut milk has been seized. In August 2020, an air freight consignment with 86 boxes of coconut milk cans arrived into Sydney from Thailand. AFP officers conducted a controlled delivery and a 29-year-old woman and 20-year-old man were arrested after taking delivery of the cans. They were each charged with one count of attempting to possess a commercial quantity of an unlawfully imported border controlled drug, namely methamphetamine.
