21.01.2022 5 reasons why you should be using SPDs (Surge Protection Device) in residential switchboards 1 Aussie homes have an estimated $15,000 worth of electronics unprotected against voltage surges. Traditional appliances like TVs and fridges are becoming smarter every day with lots of new sensitive electronic components inside them, which may be more at risk of surge damage. 2 Lots of home insurance policies don’t cover for all types of voltage surges. Getting an SPD installed... could be cheaper for homeowners than even paying excess, in case of surge damage to their appliances. 3 Surge protected extension cords or powerboards only offer limited protection (and only for the devices connected to them). What about smart appliances such as washing machines, dryers and stoves that are normally plugged directly into standard powerpoints? 4 More people are working from home than ever before, storing critical business info on their desktop computers and laptops. SPDs can help prevent data loss from potential voltage spikes. 5 It’s simply not worth the risk. One SPD helps to keep all harmful surges out of your customer’s home, and can help give you (and them) peace of mind. More on our SPD product range: https://bit.ly/2YGoeFx

16.01.2022 ATTENTION HALOGEN DOWN LIGHT OWNERS They’re one of the leading causes of house fires in Australia due to the heat they produce. They also contribute up to 30% of your electricity bill Get them upgraded to LED's for $50+gst each with 7-year warranty *minimum 4... Note - Always make sure of these 4 things when getting your downlights changed. 1- Use a licensed and insured Electrician to protect your home insurance and it’s done legally 2- That the transformer and full light kit is replaced (not just the globes) as the transformer generate a lot of heat and can burn/catch fire 3- Make sure you buy your light fittings are from a reputable brand as many cheap led lights are flooding the market online that don’t meet Australian standards and can be dangerous 4- Be wary of companies offering free government subsidised led change overs. (you might have received their fliers in the mail) They use cheap Chinese fittings and generally only replace the globes (leaving the old dangerous transformer), They only supply warm white fittings and are only 5 watt (mine are 9.5 watt) that give off a lot of glare, they’re not dimmable and only 60 degree light beam angle (mine are 90 degree) So, in other words you get what you pay for when it comes to Led lighting Feel free to Call Andrew for any electrical work on 0451187021. 15.01.2022 7 RENOVATION TIPS FROM AN ELECTRICIAN! - Upgrade your switchboard! Safety switches cut power in less than half a second when there is a fault with the wiring and can save a child’s life or even stop your house burning down. - Never buy your light fittings from Bunnings or Ikea, they are cheaply made and can be costly to install due to being time consuming. - Allow roughly 10-15% of any full renovation to be on Electrical - Whenever buying globes, stick to well-known brands su...ch as Phillips, Osram and Mercator as they will stay brighter and last far longer - Upgrade all your lights to Led. Although the initial cost can hurt financially, they generally pay themselves off in Electrical and globe replacement costs within 2 years. They are 6 times more efficient, last 10 times as long and generate little or no heat! - Always use a Licensed Electrician and not the Handyman next door or your husband. Any warranty will be void and if there is a fire or somebody gets electrocuted the Insurance company won’t pay. - Lastly when installing bathroom 3 in 1 heaters (IXL's) or Ceiling fans, spent a little more and get a quality one from a lighting store as the generally come with an "In Home Warranty" which means if there is a fault within the first few years the company will send out their own Electrician to replace it free of charge. 09.01.2022 Product quality! I regularly get messages or comments from potential clients saying I can get a Fan/Light/PowerPoint ect for half what you quoted me There’s a problem with this as 99% of the time the difference is quality. When it comes to electrical components there can be huge difference from products at the lower end of the spectrum to the higher end. Sometimes homeowners or even other electricians will go for a cheaper product in order to save on costs but from my exper...ience this generally isn’t the best way to do things. I’ve learnt to do a job once and do it properly. I’ll explain.... Cheap sub $10 Bunnings Led downlight. Plastic housing No heat sink (preserve life of light and dissipate the heat) Cheap plastic diffuser which diffusers the light and gives more glare Transformer attached to the light fitting keeping the heat close to the led diodes and shortens the life’s light. 12 month warranty 6 watt (not very bright) Wholesaler bought $20 Led downlight https://www.voltexelectrical.com.au/p-3672-voltex-monaco-95 Metal housing Decent size heat sink Built in transformer Tri colour to change from warm, cool and daylight 7 year warranty Thick defuser 9.5 watt (Bright) High end Wholesaler bought $67 Led downlight https://thelightingoutlet.com.au//5-yr-warranty-led-downli Metal housing Huge heat sink 5-year warranty Slim trim design appears flush with ceiling Recessed adjustable LED downlight with remote driver Wide faceted reflector for uniform light distribution Matte white or silver finish 4000K & 5000K colour temperature available on request Dimmable 15 watt (super bright) These are great for high end jobs! Hopefully after reading this always make sure when dealing with tradies to compare products, they’re supplying so you know you’re getting good quality and matching apples with apples so to speak! 03.01.2022 Fun Fact! Did you know in Australia every year there’s 1.3 million ceiling fans installed every year? I regularly get clients as what’s the difference between a $120 fan and a $400 fan. There are a few key differences that make a huge impact on how well a ceiling fan works. 1- In home warranty - This means if the fan fails, breaks down or the light stops working the manufactures electrician will fix or replace it free of charge for a period of 2-3 years. With cheap fans altho...ugh they have return warranty, you’ll need an electrician to disconnect and reconnect a new fan (generally at around $150-$200 cost) 2- quieter motors 3- far higher airflow 4- brighter, energy efficient dimmable Led globes 5- better quality remotes 6- faster install times (cheaper labour costs) 7- Far more aesthetically pleasing 8- polycarbon blades that don’t deteriorate or sag from the sun 9- better connection and mounts so less risk of them wobbling and becoming noisy over time. Ask us about our 15% beacon Lighting cards for ceiling fans and lighting. Feel free to Call Andrew for any electrical work on 0451187021.
