21.01.2022 Message from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator In response to the COVID-19 cluster in South Australia that has seen that state introduce significant restrictions for at least the next six days, the Victorian Government has announced a hard border will be in place with South Australia from midnight tonight (Thursday) for 48 hours, before a permit system comes into effect from midnight on Saturday, 21 November. Under this hard border arrangement, only freight drivers and ...those with medical or emergency reasons, animal welfare or as authorised by law will be permitted to enter Victoria. The Government is finalising details of the permit scheme and this will be explained once advice is received from Vic authorities. Check points on roads between SA and Vic will be established to authenticate reasons for cross border travel. Appropriate documentation and consignment notes should be carried verifying the reason for your travel. From today, interstate truck drivers travelling through Victoria from South Australia will be offered extra testing at a site at Nhill on the Western Highway. Other testing sites are being activated at other major freight routes. Drivers can also be tested at more than 193 other sites across Victoria - https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/getting-tested The NHVR encourages all drivers to take advantage of voluntary testing sites to ensure your health. Remember to continue to practice appropriate social distancing, recording of close contacts and self-isolation whilst not working.

15.01.2022 South Australian COVID-19 NEWS Updates to Victorian Border Restrictions The Premier today announced at a press conference that as of midnight tonight (12:01am 4/11/20), Cross Border Community Members will no longer be required to undertake a COVID test every 7 days in order to cross the border into SA. The Cross Border Travel Directive will be updated by midnight tonight and we will provide a copy of the Direction when it becomes available.... The Premier also acknowledged that the situation in Victoria is very promising and if the situation continues to show low case numbers, the hard border with Victoria could be relaxed in approximately 14 days’ time. Non-essential Victorian travellers would still be required to quarantine for 14 days, however this quarantine could be completed in a private home or dwelling. No set date was provided, and we will provide more information as it becomes available. Changes to consumption of alcohol The Premier also announced that South Australians may be able to enjoy the vertical consumption of alcohol at licensed premises within 2 weeks if we can continue to see low case numbers in Victoria. No set date was provided and we will provide more information as it becomes available. Changes to Western Australia's border arrangements From Saturday, 14 November, WA will transition to a safe and sensible controlled border arrangement based on the latest public health advice. Introduction of WA’s new controlled interstate border arrangement is dependent on every state and territory in Australia recording a 14-day rolling average of less than 5 community cases of COVID-19 per day. If this 14-day rolling average is met, the existing hard border arrangements and current exemption requirements for travel will be removed, allowing Australians to travel into and around WA, subject to conditions of entry. Remote Aboriginal community restrictions within WA are still in place, as well as a modified 2 square metre rule. The WA Chief Health Officer will continue to closely monitor community transmission in other states and territories and will advise the WA Government if any changes to their borders are required. View more information here.
