Must say it is quite a weird feeling, but the time was right to l...et the new guard take on the association and to grow it bigger than ever. Of course these are currently very hard times to be running an association but lets hope the pandemic breaks in the near future and we can all get back and mingle amongst our peers. To Jarrod Bird and the 2020-21 committee congratulations and best of luck bringing us through the pandemic, Im sure this is not good bye from me for ever but time for a rest. 19.01.2022 Our turf lecturers Jeff and Simon were at Optus stadium yesterday with the first and second year apprentices groups. Stadium Manager, Tony Hemming, provided a f...ull rundown on spray procedures, renovation practices and construction. Apprentices also gave a hand with weeding poa from the surface. After which, Tony presented on record keeping. The system used by Tony is possibly the most intense and thorough record keeping program, any in attendance has seen! After this excellent educational experience, all in attendance enjoyed a barbie together. Grateful thanks to Tony and his team for always being so ready to impart knowledge. 19.01.2022 Southern members this one is for you (or anyone else that wants to join in on the fun). Golf course greenkeeper David Insley recently moved to Marulan, just dow...n the road from Marulan Cricket Club, and as a passionate cricketer took to reinstating the Club's turf wicket. The club and wicket had been out of action for the previous 8 years and required huge amount of effort. Dave was so dedicated he purchased rollers and cylinder mowers with his own money. However all his efforts were not producing the surface he wanted, so he approached Daryl Davidson for some advice. With the wicket too far gone, it was decided to re-turf the wicket square. Our Daryl Davidson and Damien Curtis have done a wonderful job arranging Ventrac (with PowerBroom), Ground Solutions Australia (with Air2g2), Musturf (with washed maxi-rolls of TifTuf), and various other sponsors to assist on the day, which will include removal of the existing dead turf and surface, marking out the wicket, leveling the surface. Marulan Cricket Club was first established in 1866 and there is a great story about the Bulli wicket soil being shoveled off the back of a broken-down truck on the highway, but we will leave Club President, Rob Collins to tell that story on the day. 01.01.2022 Scooter from Total Pitch Care (RHS of of first pic) and his offsider Jim (LHS of photo), took the 2nd year turfies on a master class on pitch and outfield prepa...ration at Lilac Hill on Monday. The apprentices put their hand to grooming the wicket (2nd pic). After grooming the wicket at 15mm it was mown down to 10mm, then moisture applied and the wicket rolled. After this quick preparation wicket height was down to 3mm. After this James took the apprentices through outfield preparation. Using the peruzzo with flail blades and vertical blades for verticutting the outfield. It was an exceptionally great experience for the apprentices. Many thanks to Graeme Wicks (Scooter), and James Claxon (Jim) for affording the second year apprentices this amazing hands in experience at a premier turf facility.
