23.01.2022 The Australian Government is working together with our partners in the Pacific and Southeast Asia to ensure access to safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines. Ou...r region needs access to safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines. We will work in partnership with our neighbours to achieve that together, including through a range of advance purchase agreements with manufacturers as well as through participation in the multilateral COVAX Facility. Today, the Australian Government is committing an additional $500 million over three years towards this regional effort on top of the $23.2 million committed in the Budget. This funding will make a significant contribution to the immunisation needs of our region, as we work together with our neighbours to emerge stronger on the other side. 23.01.2022 Justice today was delivered to the terrorist and murderer for his cowardly and horrific crimes in Christchurch. It is right that we will never see or hear from ...him ever again. All Australians were horrified and devastated by his despicable act. New Zealand is family to us. Today, we send our love across the ditch and I had the opportunity to pass on those wishes earlier today to New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern. Out of the horror of this event there also emerged the incredible grace and beauty of Farid Ahmed, who I met with Jenny at the memorial service in Christchurch and again in Sydney when he came to visit me in March this year. Farid lost his wife that day and his message is one of hope and love. Inspirational. I pay tribute to the Muslim community of New Zealand and in Australia who have supported each other and reflected the goodness of faith. You have been a light answering the darkness. God Bless our New Zealand whanau this day and may it be another day of healing for everyone affected by this terrible atrocity.

22.01.2022 The High Commission was honoured today to conduct the investiture of New Zealand helicopter pilot Matthew Irving with the Australian Bravery Medal for his considerable bravery during the rescue of two men caught in floodwaters in the Northern Territory in 2018. Congratulations Matthew!

12.01.2022 Incredibly humbling to meet three Australian Second World War veterans today - Derek Holyoake, Lance Cooke, and Les Cook. Today on the 75th anniversary of the e...nd of the Second World War, we honour and thank them, and the 1 million other Australians who put on our uniform and fought for and secured our freedom. Derek was 16 when he joined the Navy. He pretended to be 17. He was on the HMAS Hobart when it was hit by a torpedo. Lance was a flight mechanic. He kept our Beaufighters in the air. He checked every spark plug to keep our pilots and navigators safe. As he said They were my mates. And Les, like Derek, tried to enlist at 16 - except the enlisting officer told him to try the scouts! Les wasnt perturbed. He returned at 17 and his Dad signed up too. Why did Les join up? He puts it simplyit was the thing to do...and you didnt give it a second thought Their deeds, and the sacrifices of their generation, will not be forgotten.
