25.01.2022 Australian volunteer Rob Eden supported the work of the Port Moresby Nature Park for 18 months as a Maintenance and Facilities Project Manager, before returning to Australia due to COVID-19. Fortunately, Rob has been able to continue to support his colleagues at the park from his home in Queensland, as part of the Australian Volunteers Program While I was in Port Moresby we had numerous projects and developments we were working on. Once back here in Oz, I was able to contin...ue with designs and drawings for some of these projects, explains Rob. It has been great to be able to pass on some of my skills to further develop those of the staff at the Park. 23.01.2022 Judie Alingou, sister in charge at Madang Town Clinic, knows the importance of regular health patrols. She has recently been able to start regular health patrols, allowing her and her team to deliver basic health care services including immunisation to remote communities. Sr Alingou and her team have not been able to conduct regular patrols for the past nine years. ... That changed last year when the Accelerated Immunisation and Health Systems Strengthening (AIHSS) program started in the province. The AIHSS program is a PNG Government initiative supported by the Governments of Australia, New Zealand and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance with technical support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF. The rollout of immunisation activities will help protect babies under one year of age against diseases. The program is being delivered in Madang by World Vision International in partnership with the Madang Provincial Health Authority. #PNGAusPartnership

19.01.2022 Ace in Space That’s what they say on the footy field when they realise Hewago Ace Oea has bolted away from his defenders once again and is perfectly positioned to take the mark. With the announcement that he has joined the Gold Coast Suns he’s just made history by being the first AFL Papua New Guinea player to be signed to a top-tier #AFL club. ... In 2017, when Ace was just 15 years old, he received the best on ground medal when Papua New Guinea won its back to back AFL International Cup grand final. PNG remain international AFL champions. At 16 he became the first PNG player to join the AFL academy, and has worked his way with sacrifices made and support from PNG and Australian friends and family to professional player status. From Gordons to Gold Coast, Ace has come a long way. We can’t wait to see what magic Ace has up his sleeve in 2021. #PNGAusPartnership AFL

14.01.2022 A world first for PNG! Henao Rakatani, a medical laboratory scientist from Divine Word University has achieved a level one status from level four after successfully completing an external competency training for malaria microscopists in the country. She was among 12 other microscopists from around the country to participate in a World Health Organization (WHO) virtual malaria competency assessment in Port Moresby from November 9-13.... The virtual training was conducted by WHO consultant Lieutenant Ken Lilley with cofacilitation by Central Public Health Laboratory (CPHL) quality assurance manager Ernest Velemu and malaria scientist Dorothy Abala. He connected with the participants in Port Moresby via video link from the Australian Defence Force Malaria and Infectious Diseases Institute. The training included representatives from Modilon, Kundiawa, Vunapope and Tari hospitals, Yagaum and Butuwin health centres, the PNG Institute of Medical Research, DWU, and the CPHL Malaria and Quality Assurance units. Each year, CPHL conducts two external competency assessments of malaria microscopists supported through the Australia-China-PNG Trilateral Malaria Project. Through species identification and parasite count, the assessments allow them to grade, identify and map the gaps in malaria microscopists in PNG and to plan strategic approaches to address and improve malaria diagnosis throughout the country.

06.01.2022 What a season finale Despite having the man dubbed the "fastest man in the world" on their team. the mighty NSW Blues went down to what a commentator called the worst QLD team ever! A triumphant Wayne Bennett showed that a team full of heart, even if they are rookies, should never be written off. It was extra special to see PNG-born youngster Xavier Coates score tries for QLD in games 1 and 2 and win the hearts of Australia and PNG with his humility and smile. The Austra...lian High Commission team always gets into the spirit of friendly rivalry, and there are even some of us who openly support NSW (although Blues enthusiasm was somewhat quieter today). We are proud to share the excitement and unity that sport brings to our communities. To all the QLD fans, Xavier Coates fans, and people who enjoyed the spectacle of good sport in what has been a tough year congratulations. #PNGAusPartnership #origin #NRL

01.01.2022 Setting a strong foundation for learning in the early childhood stages paves the way for improved livelihoods and contributes to social and economic stability in the long-term. Delsie is more than an early learning teacher she is a champion in removing barriers to children’s education in her community. This year’s World Children’s Day theme - Investing in our future means investing in our children - is a perfect representation of her approach towards development in her ...community. She attended Nature Line training on using natural objects to recognise letters and sounds. Inspired by that training, Delsie established an early learning centre in her village in Tinputz North Bougainville. The training was facilitated by the Bougainville government and supported by the #PNGAusPartnership. In the years that followed, Delsie continued to use the skills and knowledge she gained from the training to prepare young children to enter the formal elementary education system in Tinputz. I taught my students in our local vernacular and ensured they were able to read, write, count that they learned phonics and were prepared to enrol into elementary schools, Delsie said. Providing early childhood care and education is a holistic approach - focusing on the development of a child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs. The #PNGAusPartnership is supporting PNG’s aims to ensure that every child has access to quality education. Support include providing teacher professional development, teaching materials, establishing reading clubs and school board management training, Happy Children’s Day! #20DaysofActivism #WorldChildrensDay
