24.01.2022 The Knee- To- Wall Test Physios love this test for ankle mobility, it demonstrates if a person has sufficient range of motion bringing the shin bone over the toes. There can be many causes of ankle stiffness! Why is this important? You need adequate motion (dorsiflexion) here to do things like run, descend the stairs. The KTWT Is an essential part of assessing foot, ankle, shin and knee pain in both athletes and the general population.

24.01.2022 With sports returning, kicking injuries are becoming more common. A very common kicking injury is a quadricep tear. Demonstrated below is a test for quadricep strength (rectus femoris). Ideally, you want to be able to hold this position past 20 degrees for at least 10 seconds. If you are required to do any kicking, running or jumping action for your sport. You need to give this a try yourself, but make sure you start nice and easy, and try not to move your back.... Like comment or call our clinic to speak with one of our awesome Physiotherapists!

He has come such a long way since March and is well on the way to returning to work as a tiler full-time. Here is proof that hard work pays off. Well done Greg !!

07.01.2022 Daniel is one of our awesome patients who has been working hard with his rehabilitation. 15 months ago Daniel experienced an ankle sprain, causing a complete rupture of his lateral ligaments as well as a cartilage injury. He has since undergone 2 surgeries and is almost back to running and playing soccer. One thing that Daniel has been working on which is important for him to return to running is a single leg squat. Here you can see Daniel attempting a single leg squat in August. The main components of this that we are trying to improve are: Knee control (we want the knee to stay over the toes and not shake) Foot position (we want to avoid excessive pronation, or rolling in of the foot) Hip position (we want the hips to stay straight and not drop down)

05.01.2022 Are you returning to sport soon? You need to hear this: Sporting injuries are much higher post- lockdown compared to before, even in elite athletes!... There has never been a more important time for injury prevention screening assessment and sport- specific training. Why? During lockdown there has been a prolonged period of inability to access training facilities, deterioration of biomechanical control and injury prevention training, and short timeframe of notice to prepare for when matches would start again. The sudden increase in load and contact in match- environments can lead to many lower limb joint and muscle injuries. What can we do? Injury prevention screening assessment with a Physiotherapist- to see what has weakened/ loss control and needs to be worked on Gradual sprinting and strength work Varied skill training https://www.trackademicblog.com/blog/bundesligablueprint

03.01.2022 PRE- INJURY ASSESSMENT Do you have good lower limb biomechanics? Here you can see Nick demonstrating some common biomechanical issues that can lead to injury... -His torso is slanted -His shin/ foot are externally rotated In a side lunge you should aim for -level shoulders -hip, knee and ankle aligned on top of each other -foot facing forward with kneecap inline with the second toe In the second photo you can see Sarah demonstrating better leg joint positioning, she just needs to work on keeping her right shoulder up.

03.01.2022 Are you working from home? How is your ergonomic setup? If its not great, it could be the cause of Headaches, neck and back pain. Here are some simple tips to get you set up right! In the first photo Nick is demonstrating typical poor postures we see in desk workers. ... In the second photo Nick shows us how we should sit! Here are our tips: 1) Adjust your seat height so that you can keep your upper arms rested along your body, and elbows approximately 90 degree angle. (If you cant adjust your chair, try sitting on a few pillows) 2) Rest your back on the back of the chair. Nick has also added a lumbar roll cushion to his lower back to support the natural curve. Pulling your chair as close to the desk as you can will help with this. 3)Sit back into the chair so you dont lean forwards to stare at the screen, no matter how interesting it is. 4) If possible, get a separate keyboard (or screen) from your laptop. Elevate the laptop so youre not staring down, straining your neck. You should have your eyes in line with the top half of the screen.
