20.01.2022 Sunshine Coast Newspaper - ON THE MARKET Hello from sunny south-east Queensland ‘Please feel free to forward this email to your work colleagues and associates’... After owning and operating our well-loved local Sunshine Coast hinterland print newspaper for the last 17 years, it is time for us (a couple in our mid 50s), to call it quits and sell the business to someone who will continue the publication’s journey into the digital future. The paper has been an integral part of our community for more than 35 years, and when COVID hit last year we had a shaky moment where we threw our hands in the air and said this is all too hard, we are shutting it down, building a bunker and hiding from the world until this pandemic is over. However, after a few anxious days, followed by the announcement of JobKeeper and then federal government grants, good sense took hold and we decided to embrace the ‘pivot philosophy’. Over the past 18 months, a significant digital transformation process has been undertaken (backed by considerable investment) to take advantage of the growth in digital revenue opportunities. We now have a sustainable small business that we know someone else with extra energy, more digital experience and a love for community news can take to the next level. We are hoping that, despite all of the uncertainty in our world (and the fluctuating state of our borders), that if we share our story with enough people in the industry we might just be able to connect with that ‘someone’ who would fit the bill and is looking forward to a brighter future in 2022. If you, or someone you have worked in newspapers with, or just someone you know who would be interested in a move to a lovely near-coastal peri-urban Queensland region, only an hour from Brisbane airport, and 30 minutes to the beaches of the southern end of the Sunshine Coast, we would love them to contact us. To get an idea of what our newspaper is like take a look at our website www.gcnews.com.au, we have 10 years of back editions on there, and our Facebook page Glasshouse Country & Maleny News. If this has sparked your interest, you can see more by checking out our business listing https://www.anybusiness.com.au//glass-house-mountains-qld- we have a business synopsis (excluding financials) we can email you if you want to understand more about this opportunity. We’re more than happy to then send financials after signing of a non-disclosure agreement. Cheers, Lea Parkes (Owner / Managing Editor) and Greg Brown (Owner / Business Manager)

11.01.2022 Too good not to share: Stan Gorton of the The Islander writes: "Almost the whole world is asleep. Everybody you know. Everybody you see. Everybody you talk to. Only a few people are awake and they live in a state of constant total amazement."... Stan describes himself as "Journalist at The Islander newspaper, conservation angler, nature lover, winter swimmer, drone pilot." For those who don't know Stan he is an exceptional, passionate, dedicated journalist and a brilliant example of how a single journalist can celebrate and inform their community.
