25.01.2022 At a young age, Australian pilot Leslie Gordon Knight DSO saved the village of Den Ham from disaster when he crashed his burning Lancaster bomber on the Janmansweg. This happened after he steered the aircraft away from the built up area. The Australian gave his life for the Dutch village and the seven remaining crew members. These seven airmen all survived the war with the help of several villagers and the help of the underground. Last Sunday, the Les Knight charity commemorated the 100th year anniversary of this death in Den Ham and in the below picture and via the following link you can find a newspaper clipping in the Twenterand about the commemoration: https://issuu.com/twinsen//tr01wk09_02-03-2021_om_12.38.43

19.01.2022 This week we will be celebrating international Women’s Day, which this year is about women’s leadership and finding an equal future in a COVID-19 world. Societies that include women in all aspects of economic, political and cultural life are more likely to be vibrant, inclusive, productive and stable, for everyone. And although COVID has only exacerbated existing gender inequalities, it is women who are on the frontlines of leading the COVID response, as changemakers, innovators and leaders. Happy Women’s Day everyone!

19.01.2022 Today, on International Women's Day, Australian Embassies across Europe unite their voices and take a stand for gender equality. Representing the Australian Embassy in NL is Roos, a vocal advocate for gender equality & women's empowerment! Happy International Women's Day! #IWD2021

12.01.2022 The culture of the internet and 'fake news' has inspired a new Dutch exhibition by Australian-Dutch artist duo Luke Conroy (Aus) and Anne Fehres (NL) about Dutc...h explorer Abel Tasman and his journey to Australia in 1642. In a time where the truth has multiple perspectives, the artists want to give this mass of conflicting information a physical form. Their works on Tasman are regarded by the artists as 'mind maps' of contemporary existence that visualize the enormous flow of information and ideas. The works included in the exhibition are a combination of digitally printed collages and manual techniques. The exhibition premieres in the Netherlands on 18 September, in the city of Enschede, at cultural centre Concordia Film Theater Beeldende Kunst, and will on display until 4 October. 12.01.2022 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. They are the authors of the world’s oldest oral histories and engraved the world’s first maps. This week, NAIDOC Week, we celebrate the vitality of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities in the contemporary identity of Australia today. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #NAIDOC2020

11.01.2022 And we end the videos for Australia Day, at the Ambassador’s Residence, the way we would in real life, with a toast. We hope you can all enjoy a glass of Australian wine to celebrate Australia Day this evening
