24.01.2022 Meitaki Ngao for the beautiful church service Ivirua.

23.01.2022 Great to see ‘The Dry’ on at The Empire in Avarua, a riveting, intense but very good Aussie film.

21.01.2022 A few excerpts from my Remembrance Day address, and some perceptive comments from PM Brown, were republished in the Cook Islands News. https://www.cookislandsnews.com//cook-islanders-have-serv/

20.01.2022 Saddened to hear of the passing of former Cook Islands PM Jim Marurai, a friend to Australia. I saw him only last week on his beloved Mangaia, in the care of Te Marae Ora. Again in 2020 we lower the flag for a former PM. Condolences to his family, island and country.

19.01.2022 Warmest congratulations to newly announced Pacific Islands Forum Secretary General Henry Puna, firm friend of Australia and a fine choice for the region in difficult times.

19.01.2022 An honour to deliver the address at the National Remembrance Day Service this morning. Cook Islands, Australia and New Zealand have an extraordinary record of cooperation, from WW1 through to the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands. It’s a living tradition, and it was a pleasure to pay tribute.

18.01.2022 Happy World Food Day everyone, and happy 75th birthday to the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, an important global partner for Australia. A yam cake from Aitutaki is the perfect celebration!

16.01.2022 An update for Australians in Cook Islands who are trying to return to Australia.

12.01.2022 How exciting! I hope to see the ‘Cozzie’ community on Tuesday.

12.01.2022 Welcome to the Taunga Nui barge! All the way from Brisbane in 14 days, carrying essential equipment made by Aussie company Antoun. Antoun’s specialist knowledge will strengthen the runway at Rarotonga airport with minimum interruption for flights. Well done Malcolm Sword and team for getting the barge and it’s cargo here, a huge achievement in COVID times.

10.01.2022 An honour to meet with Numangatini Ariki IX ahead of my first visit to Mangaia. I can’t wait to meet the people of Mangaia, learn of its culture and, I suspect, discover the many links between Mangaia and Australia.

10.01.2022 At the Mangaia School we received a wonderful musical welcome and were challenged to try traditional games. I’m not sure I am quite there yet...

08.01.2022 Years ago, Australian Aid laid down power cables across Mangaia to connect its punas. Today, an Australian company is helping make that power renewable. Numangatini Ariki, who is also Director of Renewable Energy for Cook Islands, discussed the project with me last week.

07.01.2022 Put your hand up if you have family in Australia? Wow!

05.01.2022 This week is NAIDOC Week, when people all over Australia celebrate our indigenous peoples and heritage. Did you know that the oldest maps in the world were engraved by indigenous Australians, and the oldest continuing oral traditions on the planet are indigenous dreamtime stories? Today, we proudly fly the indigenous flag outside the High Commission. Black represents the Aboriginal people of Australia. Yellow represents the Sun, the giver of life and protector. Red represents the red earth, the red ochre used in ceremonies and Aboriginal peoples' spiritual relation to the land.

05.01.2022 So pleased to work with Cook Islands, one of our closest security partners in the Pacific, on shared regional security challenges.

03.01.2022 At the Tamarua church on beautiful Mangaia, we found an Australian woman leading the Gospel Day service with her Aussie grandaughter, an Australian army veteran and his family in the pews, and a warm welcome. It felt like family. Thank you Tamarua and happy Gospel Day everyone.

01.01.2022 A brief Australia Day message to the ‘Cozzie’ community from the Australian High Commissioner.
