24.01.2022 Well that’s the first load. At least 1 more to come. Met lovely people today Keith & Gwenda. They are pensioners who lost everything except one vehicle. Unfortunately they weren’t insured. Before you comment just consider this. To insure there property is over 25% of their pension. So that means you make decisions on whether you insure and not have enough to live on or don’t insure just to ensure you have enough for the essentials. These people don’t drink, smoke or gamble an...d are just simple people going about their lives like everyone else. Now they have lost everything. They are resilient people and will get in with it. To date they have been very well supported by some local and out of town people who have come in and helped to build a shed they can use as a temporary home, although they can’t sleep in there. A fellow from Newcastle I believe has taken his caravan to the property for them to use as well until they get on their feet. They will get to utilise some of the materials we left there today. They were kind enough to allow us to leave the materials on their property for others to come and take to help rebuild structures at other properties as well. See more

09.01.2022 You don’t realise how devastating the fires were, unless you were caught up in them or witness first hand the devastation that has taken place. It’s a life changing event for all involved and none more so for Keith & Gwenda at Rainbow Flat. Pensioners who had to decide whether to use over 25% of their pension on insurance or utilise that money to ensure they could make ends meet. Last Saturday we dropped a truck load of roofing materials, gutters, flashings and timbers, some... second hand and some seconds, to their home for distribution to other locals in need. Adam & I were surprised at what we saw and also the affect this has had on Keith & Gwenda. You could see the tears well up in their eyes as they told us of the events of that day and the struggles since.
