24.01.2022 Auskick 2020 concluded last Saturday with a sensational turnout on a crisp spring morning. We finished the session with a Parents vs Kids game. The kids got a big thrill showing dash, panache and superior fitness to run out winners over the Mums and Dads in a seesawing battle. It has been incredibly rewarding seeing just how much the children’s skills and teamwork have improved in the last 10 weeks. They are little champions! I was moved by the gifts and card that Laura and... I received from the parents. They were unnecessary but very much appreciated. Thank you to everyone. I have had an incredible time running the Auskick for the last two years. It has been such a privilege to run the kids around on Saturday mornings. The smiles, laughter and impressive goals have left an indelible imprint on my memories that I will treasure. Hopefully I have taught them some skills which they will go on with and maybe, one day, some boys and girls from West Wyalong will be running around in the Orange or the Red and White. I won't be continuing with Auskick Co-ordinating in 2021. My family and I will be relocating back to Victoria, covid pending. If there is anyone that is willing to take on the reins, please get in contact and I can proceed to handover the Facebook page, accounts and keys. Thank you to all the people that have helped with drills and bbq’s over the last two years. It makes a massive difference. A special thank you also to Barb from What’s Cooking for sponsoring the weekly encouragement awards (the milkshakes were certainly a hit) and to Evolution Mining through which we were able to purchase the Ross Faulkner gear. #snswfootyfactory See more
19.01.2022 What a brilliant morning for Auskick. The sun was out, the ground was perfect and the kids had a ball. We were very lucky to get another grant from Evolution Mining this year. We used the money to upgrade the handball target, get some hurdles and the bunting net which the kids all enjoyed thoroughly. It was great to see Kit flying high for marks. He and his brother Jude love the Swans, and they have some high flying traits about them, just like NSW Academy product Issac Heen...ey. Well done Kit. Ruby Glasgow is also a high flyer, showing perfect technique with her knee up high to protect herself. This shot is just like Saints AFLW star Rhiannon Watt. Ruby also kicked a sensational goal in our scratch match. Well done Ruby. Adeline Stephens did a great job in her second session, it was great to see a smile on her face as she ran around in all our drills. As Sydney doesn't have an AFLW team, I though this shot looked a bit like Crows superstar Erin Phillips, well done Adeline, keep the ball out in front of your eyes, great job. I couldn't go past this shot of George Weir, it's remarkable just how much he looks like Big Jack. I reckon George will grow into a dominant Centre Half Forward just like Riewoldt, He has great hands and a booming kick, well done George. See you next week Ben #snswfootyfactory #momentsmadebyauskick #evolutionmining
19.01.2022 Sorry for the delay, I got a bit distracted over the weekend. Wasn't it fun playing in the mud on Saturday! Wet Weather footy at it's best. It was great to see the kids keep the ball in front of them, using flat hands and keep the running up to stay warm! Some more compare the pairs. Miller starred in the scratch match, kicking some big goals from well outside the "50m" Auskick equivalent. Jacko MacRae doesn't kick many goals (however he did kick the most important goal in B...ulldogs history) but I reckon Miller was getting as many touches as Jack does in the footy match. well done Miller. It was great to see young Will McDonnell getting plenty of the footy in our match. He is a bit of a clean skin compared to Dusty, but he has a very similar kicking style and plays with the same team first mentality, well done Will. See you on Saturday Morning Ben #snswfootyfactory #momentsmadebyauskick
18.01.2022 No rain on the Radar, the ground looks good, Auskick is ON!! Parents, I’d say the kids might get a bit damp so maybe bring a towel or change of clothes. See you at 9
17.01.2022 Gday all. It’s pouring at the moment and according to the app, it’s a 48% chance of rain at 9am tomorrow morning. I will make a call on whether Auskick goes ahead early tomorrow morning. Thanks Ben
17.01.2022 Auskick is on! Like last week, the ground is a bit moist so best being a towel or change of clothes for afterwards. See you at 9
12.01.2022 Auskick is on this week!!
10.01.2022 It’s very wet down on the oval. I am going to call Auskick off this week and we can make up a week on the back end. I will see you all next week
07.01.2022 Week 3 of Auskick.... getting out of bed with Weatherzone giving me a "feels like" 0.2 degrees was a bit of a challenge, but it didn't stop the kids from having a blast in the fog. Another sensational turnout for Auskick with lots of skills and teamwork on display. I was really pleased with our scratch match today. I'm pretty sure every child had a possession and the teamwork was first rate, with many handballs given to team mates in better positions. The kids are really lea...rning how to move the ball around the field and plenty of goals were kicked. Laura managed to get plenty of ripper photos this week, with the fog providing a spectacular backdrop. I really like the way Ruby Reid sums up her options when playing footy. Rather than blazing away, she will often handpass out of congestion and find a team mate in the clear. I saw this picture of her and I reckon there is a bit of Bulldogs Superstar Aisling McCarthy about it. PS Rubes nailed the goal too. Seth Grimshaw was raking up the possessions in our game. A ball magnet, he was finding the footy as much as Essendon Captian Dyson Heppell. All you need is the dreadlocks mate and you will be on Essendons list in no time, well done. Braelee Catlin is a great mark. A passionate Swans Supporter, she proudly turns up in the Red and White each week. Unfortunately there is no Swans AFLW team, but this shot of her climbing up high on Tom's back with text book technique reminded me of Sabrina Frederick-Traub. Sabrina is hands down the best mark in the Womens league, well done Braelee! It was great to have Flynn May join us all the way from Condobolin in the mid season draft!! He obviously loves his footy and showed great skills in our scratch match, raking up loose balls and intercept marks in the backline. But I reckon he may end up in the forward line if this picture is anything to go by. All he needs is a beard, a stuttered run up and he is Josh Kennedy in the making. See you all next week Ben #snswfootyfactory #momentsmadebyauskick
06.01.2022 Spring has sprung and the weather has turned. It was lovely getting out in the sunshine for Saturday morning Auskick. Peter McDonnell has volunteered to run the Auskick Session next week so Auskick will be on! Fantastic news! Parents please make sure you support Pete with the activities. it is a tough gig when you are starting out. I will be back for the final session the week after where we will run a sausage sizzle to conclude a wonderful 2020 Auskick season. It is reall...y encouraging to see the kids kicking straight. You can tell they have been practicing, I even saw lots of non preferred kicks today which is really impressive. Keep it up! Rexy has only just started at Auskick recently but he is a real natural. He puts his head over the ball and hunts the pill in the game like a veteran. His kicking action looks very similar to Swans Superstar and Goal kicking record holder, Tony Lockett. Well balanced, head over the ball, low ball drop and kicking with a straight leg, well done Rexy, sensational to see. Ruby loves taking a big screamer, getting her knees up to protect herself and marking the ball at the highest point. As she grows taller she will be a nightmare for defenders trying to spoil with her great technique. She looks a lot like former Bulldog turned Tiger Katie Brennan. Well done Rubes, brilliant. Judd hasn't missed a session this year, and has improved out of sight. He loves his Lions and why wouldn't you with when they are sitting equal top of the ladder and in prime position for a finals tilt. Judd is a great mark, and a very long kick of the footy. He looks very much like big Eric Hipwood in this photo, although I think Judd is much much more accurate. Well done Judd Lily started the session sunbaking with her friend Molly, but quickly hit her straps and has really improved (although her shoe lace tie-ing skills leave a little to be desired). Lily, like her sisters Ruby and Alice, is a Bulldogs through and through watching every game with me. She loves to watch the "girl" Bulldogs and I reckon she looks a lot like Bulldogs superstar Issy Huntington in this shot. She has spent a lot of time practicing her kicking and it really shows, well done Lil, you little ripper! Thanks everyone, and good luck Pete Ben #snswfootyfactory #momentsmadebyauskick
05.01.2022 In weather reminiscent of Shackleton's ill fated quest to cross Antarctica, Week 5 of Auskick was held. The ground was wet, the wind was cold but there were plenty of smiles abound. At the end of the session, when asked whether anyone was cold, it was only the Adults that raised their hands! I can really see the progression in the kids and it is not just restricted to the kicking and hand balling. Where once, kids were attempting to run the length of the field to kick a goal..., now they are looking to pass to the team mates, and in many occasions hitting them lace out with some bullet passes. This is really heart warming. We have some more great pictures, this week captured by Lisa Jamieson. Thanks Lisa. Darcy Jamieson continues to develop into a superstar. He is a booming kick and reads the play really well, constantly repelling the opposition. He has a massive leap. In this shot he is so high, he ends up marking the hanger on his chest, just like Aaron the "Astro-Naught" Naughton. Hope to see you as a Son of the West one day Darcy. Will Stokes is having his first season of Auskick and hasn't missed a session. He has improved out of sight and there is no doubt he is practicing with his Dad. Will follows the WC Eagles, and this shot reminded me of Dom Sheed crushing the hearts of the Collingwood faithful all over Australia. Great kick Will Jax Lange really loves his footy, you can see in most photos he has a smile from ear to ear. I reckon this shot has a bit of Buddy about it, the former Hawk turned Swan. It shows that even the big superstars still have to practice to turn it on on the big stage. Well done Jax. Caitlin Parker looks to be really enjoying her second season of Auskick. She is really attacking the drills and getting involved in the games. Sydney Swans don't have an AFLW team, but this shot reminded me of AFLW superstar Tayla Harris back in her days at Brisband. Caitlin has textbook technique in this shot marking the ball out in front. Well done Caitlin. I will continue to assess Auskick each week on the Saturday morning and let you know on the Facebook page. I will try to only call off if it is raining. See you next Saturday Ben #snswfootyfactory #momentsmadebyauskick
02.01.2022 Conditions are cherry ripe!!! See you soon
02.01.2022 Wow, what a difference a week can make. Compared to last weeks Antarctic blast, conditions couldn't have been better this morning. Plenty of great skills on display. I have given the kids a drill to practice in the back yard. It you can kick with both feet, you will go a very long way in footy. The hardest thing about kicking a footy is the ball drop, coordinating your hand and your foot. Just practice kicking to yourself, getting the ball to spin correctly, end over end, ...nice and straight. One on the right, one on the left. This is a drill that Hawthorn premiership captain Sam Mitchell used from when he was 5 years old all the way through to when he retired at 35. Every single warm up you would see him practicing, one on the left, one on the right. He was so good, he didn't have a preferred foot, he just kicked with "whichever was convenient". Hazel really had a lot of fun with this drill. Molly keeps improving her kicking and her handballing. She launches into the drills with real enthusiasm. Molly goes for the Adelaide Crows, and whilst the Men are an absolute rabble at the moment, the Women's team are a Powerhouse. There is none better than Olympian and 2x Brownlow medalist, Erin Phillips. Model your game on Erin and you will be a superstar Molly. Darcy keeps getting leather poisoning in the scratch matches, he racks up ball and looks to share the ball around with team mates. He has a missile like left boot and knows how to use it. I reckon this shot looks a little like Bailey Smith, all that is missing is the flowing mullet. See you next week Ben #snswfootyfactory #momentsmadebyauskick
01.01.2022 Final Auskick session of 2020 this Saturday. Parents bring your runners as we will have a kids vs parents match at the end. We will also run a free sausage sizzle to sign off for 2020. Thank you to everyone that has helped during the year and particular thanks to Peter McDonnell for taking last weeks session.
