25.01.2022 Camberwell Band members leave this coming Monday to fly to Indonesia where they will share in Salvation Army celebrations at Palu in commemoration of 100 years of the TSA in Sulawesi. General Andre Cox is the guest leader. Please pray for Bandmaster Alistair Strachan, Colonel Peter Walker and the band members as they have this unique opportunity to share with our Indonesian friends.

22.01.2022 Tasmania Fires. By yesterday, Salvation Army teams had provided 4,500 meals to those affected by bushfires. Salvos Stores have been assisting with clothing and storage of donations. We are pleased to report that Woolworths have announced a donation of $100,000 to the Army for the Tasmanian fire victims, and are also running an appeal through their stores. A number of stations will be established today to provide financial assistance to victims who in many cases escaped with only the clothes they were wearing.

18.01.2022 News was received last Friday that Commissioners Raymond and Aylene Finger have been appointed by the General to IHQ to be responsible for the SPEA zone (South Pacific and East Asia) from 1 June 2013. They have led our territory with great vision and passion and will be greatly missed. Your prayers for them and their family at this time would be appreciated.

17.01.2022 Leadership from across the AUS territory will be gathering in Geelong over the next few days, sharing in conference for the first time with new leaders, Commissioners Floyd and Tracey Tidd. There are many important issues on the agenda, but of prime importance will be the time that the new leaders are able to share with their executive team. Please pray for this gathering.

17.01.2022 The Chief Secretary, Colonel Peter Walker with Colonel Jenny Walker last weekend visited the Robertson Barracks in Darwin, where they were able to meet the local Red Shield Defense Services (RSDS) representatives and visit the Albert Moore Recreation Centre, which provides facilities for the soldiers. You would be very proud of the work our Salvation Army reps do at the barracks and out in the field with the troops. Thank you to those who arranged and hosted the visit. Good to sit in the gunners seat of an ASLAV armoured vehicle!

14.01.2022 Here is a brief overview of how things stand with The Salvation Army's response to the bushfires in north, east and south-east Tasmania. We have had an ES team from the Burnie Corps serve food to the fire service, police and SES in Wynyard in the north west. The town of Nubeena on the Tasman Peninsula is doing well in its recovery. There are ample food supplies and are at a point where they are no longer dependant on TSA presence. Later today our team at Nubeena will b...e relocating to Murdunna. 25 gas stoves were distributed in this small township this morning, where approximately 50 people remain. 30 of 56 houses in the town have been destroyed. At Dunalley - We have 2 teams working in separate locations working to feed emergency crews. This is an area which has been decimated by the bushfire Assistance is being delivered at Recovery Centres at Sorell, Dunalley, New Norfolk, Carlton and at City Hall in Hobart. Rotations of our ES teams in the restricted areas has begun and within the next 2 days there should be a standardised roster to ensure that our team members are not asked or expected to go beyond what is a reasonable time doing this type of work. Caravans have been sourced from the public to enable our team members to have a good rest when not on duty. Some companies deserve a mention for their generosity - Kmart, Woolworths, Caterpillar, Bidvest, Coca-Cola, Schweppes, Rotary, Bendigo Bank, Derwent Entertainment Centre. Far too many individuals to mention who have given selflessly in a material and /or financial way. We are nearly a week into this response period, and we are settling into a pattern of good management of volunteers and team leaders, as well as managing the acquisition of resources and their distribution with good efficiency and effectiveness. Please pray for the people of south east Tasmania. The battle to recover from this disaster has only begun. Some fires are yet to be controlled, and many lives will need to be re-built. Blessings Captain Craig Wood

13.01.2022 Tas fires update. Relief staff have been organized from Victoria to travel to Tasmania and assist with the Doorways/Community relief response. This will be greatly appreciated by workers who have been going non-stop since the fires commenced providing assistance to victims.

13.01.2022 This coming weekend is time to REV! The Eastern Victoria Division are holding their largest ever Youth Camp with nearly 150 young people attending. 13.01.2022 This week the 2014 National Brengle Institute takes place in Geelong, Vic. Territorial leaders from both Australian territories shared in the opening worship on Tuesday. This is a very special ten days for the officers who have come apart from their daily schedules to consider the subject of holiness, under the overall leadership this year of Colonel Janet Munn. Please pray for them.

12.01.2022 New territorial leadership for the Australia Southern Territory has been announced effective June 1st 2013. 12.01.2022 THE Salvation Army in The Philippines is spreading its assistance to communities that were hit by Typhoon Haiyan but have not received the same media coverage as the devastated city of Tacloban and Leyte Island. In Antique Province, for instance, many towns and villages were battered by the typhoon. Salvation Army teams have conducted assessments in the communities of Tibiao, Barbasa and Bugasong, where most homes were damaged or destroyed. An initial project has been agreed ...to provide food to 4,710 families in Antique Province, where local corps (Salvation Army churches) are also working with the Department of Social Welfare and Development. Because of the logistical difficulties in getting supplies to Tacloban, it is likely that the project in Antique will be the first large-scale response undertaken by The Salvation Army after Typhoon Haiyan. Assessments are also taking place in other affected areas, including Iloilo, Cebu, Palawan and Mindoro. Damaris Frick, from International Emergency Services, has seen many disaster responses over the past few years. She is impressed with what The Salvation Army in The Philippines is doing. 'They are very committed and organised,' she says.

12.01.2022 Jenny and I attended the Benalla Salvation Army corps this Sunday, and what a wonderful, uplifiting, joyful experience it was! Majors Peter and Heather Ellis have grown a capacity filling congregation with children, youth and older people enjoying worship together. PW

10.01.2022 Spent last Sunday morning at the Palmerston corps in the Northern Territory. A wonderful collection of people including many children and youth and family groups, celebrated Jesus together. Lieuts Peter and Jo Brookshaw lead this vibrant worshipping community and were celebrating the first time attendance of a man whom they have been working with for some time. Following the service one woman asked for prayer, and received miraculous healing for her shoulder. Praise God! PW

10.01.2022 Last week spent a day at the Training College, and was incredibly blessed and impressed by the dedicated staff who work so hard to train and develop the lives of the cadets. Very demanding roles, but served well by a dedicated team. Thank you staff.

10.01.2022 As we have with the victims of Black Saturday in Victoria, The Salvation Army are committed to working with the communities affected by the fires in Tasmania for the long term. You could help by donating to the Emergency Disaster Appeal on www.salvationarmy.org.au. Thank you to all those who have supported the appeal already - much more is needed.

09.01.2022 Catherine Booth said,"We believe that the only reason why the work of God does not mightily grow and prevail, is because so few people make it their business to grow it. We believe that if there is anything worth being energetic and enthusiastic about, it is salvation." (Church and State, S.A. Publishing).

09.01.2022 It was wonderful that both territories were able to be represented yesterday at the memorial service in Melbourne for the victims and families of flight MH17 by Commissioner Floyd Tidd. A message of sympathy from The Salvation Army was displayed amongst others during the service. The Prime Minister Tony Abbot quoted from Ecclesiastes and concluded "We will remember them as they were - joyful, open, kind and optimistic. A home-sick poet, Dorothea Mackellar, once wrote: "wherever I may die, I know to what brown country my homing thoughts will fly. May those who are lost arrive home to the people and the country they loved. May the God of mercy comfort those left behind and may the God of justice answer all our prayers."

09.01.2022 Hope.Glory the live worship album created by The Creative Arts Department and Salvo Studios has recently been released on iTunes. Get your copy today and leave a review/comment to help get Army music back into the Contemporary Worship scene and at the top of the iTunes charts.

08.01.2022 Annual officer moves have been announced today. Many months of prayer and consultation with officers goes into this process, and we hope that the result will be Holy Spirit annointed and will provide what's needed in terms of leadership for the Territory. Please pray for those who will be moving, for their families, and also for the corps and centres who will face change next January.

06.01.2022 Here is the latest report on bushfires for your information. From Warwick Wilson. Good afternoon folks, Predictions of a bad fire season have been realised and TSAES teams have been very active particularly since new years eve. In the last 4 week volunteers and staff have assisted at fires in the far west of the state (near Ararat), in the Leongatha area (2 fires), at Snake Valley (5 days over 1,000 meals), Yandoit (over 2 days over 600 meals) 2 protracted road accidents in... Western Victoria, The Falls festival at Lorne, (refreshments for over 5,000 attendees), Kangaroo Ground (over 300 meals) and last night at Little River (over 300 meals). The state is in a perilous situation at the moment and obviously the community will be at high risk until there is a significant break in the weather. Once again I am in receipt of significant warnings for the weather and fire conditions for Thursday. This risk is being exacerbated be the apparent number of fires that appear to be deliberately lit. Of particular concern is the potential for fires in the Kangaroo Ground area to impact on Warrandyte and nearby communities if fires are lit in this area with a strong north wind. The work of TSAES staff and volunteers is highly commended with many of them giving up public and other holidays, weekends and family functions to support this work. Thanks again for the support of THQ and Divisional staff in this work. Regards, Warwick Wilson Victorian State Director/Territorial Coordinator TSA Emergency Services

06.01.2022 Many officers will start in new appointments this week across the territory. It is always challenging and disruptive to officer's lives, but we are praying for you, and thinking of you and your families (and pets!).

06.01.2022 Visit of Colonels Peter and Jenny Walker to Darwin and Katherine April 2014

06.01.2022 New leaders for the Salvation Army in Tasmania arrived in the midst of intense activity as staff and volunteers worked hard to assist those affected by the raging bushfires on the Tasman peninsular. Majors Ritchie and Gail Watson arrived by ship on Sunday morning, and after travelling south were soon visiting the relief centre in the Hobart Town Hall and also at Sorell, where teams are providing meals and other assistance.

06.01.2022 TSA Emergency response crews in Western Victoria division have also been hard at work responding to fires outside of Ballarat where homes have been lost. Meals are being provided to several hundred firefighters, and volunteers have come from Ballarat, Dellacombe, Ararat and Horsham corps. Well done to all.

04.01.2022 We had a wonderful Christmas chapel service at THQ today. The THQ band and singers groups were exceptional. Commissioner Finger spoke about receiving a toy car for Christmas without the necessary battery, and then compared that to celebrating Christmas without Christ. We at The Salvation Army THQ pray that you will all have a wonderful, blessed and safe Christmas. PW

04.01.2022 DVDs of the recent "Our Christmas Gift" carols celebration are now available for $25 from Trade. This was an amazing night, and we encourage you to share the DVD with family and friends who may have been unable to attend.

04.01.2022 Some great news. Hope.Glory is 6th on the Inspirational charts on iTunes. It's going to be great for spreading this amazing resource. Please get on iTunes and add a review. It'll get us number one. Great to see Salvation Army music getting out there.

03.01.2022 The Salvation Army Australia Southern Territory has launched an appeal to provide much needed assistance to the work of our fellow Salvationists in the Philippines. $100,000 has already been sent, and donations can be made by credit card directly on our web site. An appeal will be held across all corps next Sunday 24 November to allow Salvationists who wish to give an opportunity. Major Drew Ruthven from this territory will be taking a key role in the recovery work, and we seek your ongoing support and prayers.

02.01.2022 The Salvation Army Australia Southern Territory General Change Bulletin 2014 is now available! http://www.sarmy.org.au/generalchange

02.01.2022 There are some levels of concern around the Army at the moment because of the Royal Commission hearings taking place this week in Sydney. Out of respect for past careleavers and the intent to allow all to tell their stories, it can be hard for our colleagues sometimes to bring out the full picture or to challenge or respond without seeming to be defensive. Please pray for Commissioner James Condon and Major Peter Farthing. They will have the opportunity in the next few days to respond to some of the claims that have been made, and also to share how their territory has tried to work positively with those who have been hurt.
