24.01.2022 ASP 2020 - Speaker profile Professor Lisa Heitz-Mayfield Professor Lisa Heitz-Mayfield, an Adelaide graduate, obtained a Masters in periodontology (1996) and PhD (1998) from Lund University, Sweden. Her PhD focused on periodontal and peri-implant regeneration. She received a scholarship to the Brnemark Osseointegration Centre, Sweden, and an ITI Scholarship to the University of Bern, Switzerland where she was Head of the Oral Microbiology Research Laboratory from 1999 to 2...003. She was awarded the Andr Schroeder Research Prize in Implant Dentistry in 2002. Current positions include Adjunct Professor at the International Research Collaborative, The University of Western Australia and The University of Notre Dame, Western Australia. Associate Professor at The University of Sydney, and The University of Hong Kong. Chair of the International Team for Implantology (ITI) Research Committee, and member of the ITI Board of Directors. Board Member of the Osteology Foundation. She is the Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Oral Implants Research. Scientific publications in the fields of periodontal regeneration and management of peri-implant diseases, including chapters in the Lindhe textbook Clinical Periodontology and Implant Dentistry. As a specialist in periodontology Prof Heitz-Mayfield maintains a private practice limited to periodontology and implant surgery with an emphasis on regeneration, prevention and comprehensive treatment planning. 22.01.2022 ASP 2020 - Speaker Profile Professor Mark Bartold Mark Bartold is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Adelaide and formerly Professor of Periodontics and Director of the Colgate Australian Clinical Dental Research Centre, University of Adelaide. He is a past President of the International Academy of Periodontology, the Asian Pacific Society of Periodontology, and Division of Periodontics of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. He is an Editorial board ...member of 10 international dental journals, an Associate Editor of the Journal of Periodontal Research, Periodontology 2000 and Clinical & Experimental Dental Research and Editor of the Australian Dental Journal and Journal of the International Academy of Periodontology. His research interests are on the use of periodontal stem cells for periodontal regeneration and periodontal/systemic health interrelationships. Professor Bartold has authored over 300 scientific papers. He also works half time in private specialist periodontal practice. See more

16.01.2022 ASP2020 Speaker profile Introducing one of our keynote speakers, Professor Mauricio Arajo. Prof. Arajo will be running a full day workshop, as well as presentations on both days of the conference.... Prof. Arajo is a Periodontist working both in private practice and at The State University of Maringa, Parana, Brazil. He completed his PhD at The University of Gothenburg, Sweden in 1998. He is the Chairman of the Perio/Implant Research Unit, State University of Maring and Senior-researcher at the Department of Periodontology, Goteborg University. He has together with his co-workers published groundbreaking research in the fields of ridge alterations following tooth extraction, ridge preservation, bone formation in extraction sockets and immediate implant placement. He is an ITI Fellow, the ITI Chairman in Brazil and an Osteology Foundation Board member. He is a member of the editorial board of several journals.

15.01.2022 Speaker Profile ASP 2020 Meloshini Naicker Meloshini completed her Bachelors Degree in Oral Health at the University of Durban Westville, South Africa in 1991. She was employed as lecturer at the School of Dentistry, UDW for 16 years. Meloshini obtained a postgraduate Diploma in Oral Hygiene in 1997 and a Marketing Diploma in 2002. She was elected President of the SA Oral Hygienists Association (1995 1997)and also served on the Health Professions Council of SA. Meloshin...i immigrated to Australia in March 2007. She has been working in periodontics at the Perio Centre since 2008. She is also a teacher at Melbourne Dental School. Her interests are non-surgical periodontal therapy and supportive periodontal/implant maintenance. Meloshini graduated with her Masters of Public Health Degree from UQ in 2012. She is currently studying towards her PhD at the University of Melbourne. The title of her research is "To evaluate the effectiveness of using an endoscope with scaling and root planing as compared to scaling and root planing only using clinical, microbiological and radiographic parameters". 14.01.2022 ASP2020 Speaker Profile A/Prof Louise Brown Dr Louise Brown is recognised as one of Australias most highly qualified and experienced specialist clinical dentist. She is the only triple registered specialist in Australia - in the fields of dento-maxillofacial radiology, periodontics and public health dentistry. She has combined academic interests and private practice across all three fields over her busy career. In 2015, she established Teledent, which provides online r...adiology reporting to dental practitioners and general radiology practices throughout Australia. Teledent is Australias only full-time specialist dental teleradiology practice. She is a past president of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Periodontists (ANZAP). She is currently on the Board of the International Association of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology. She holds the honorary position of Associate Professor in Dentistry at the University of Queensland and distinguished guest lecturer at the University of Melbourne. She has published over 17 papers in refereed journals, supervises postgraduate student research and is called upon as a reviewer for a number of dental journals. She is frequently invited to lecture to professional groups and conferences, both nationally and internationally, presenting over 150 lectures.

12.01.2022 ASP 2020 Speaker profile- Dr Stephen Chen Dr Stephen T Chen is a specialist periodontist in private practice in Melbourne, Australia. He holds the position of Clinical Associate Professor at the School of Dentistry at the University of Melbourne. He graduated BDS (Malaya) in 1983, MDSc (Melbourne) in 1987, FRACDS in 1988 and PhD in 2008. Dr Chens scientific interests are in the field of tissue regeneration and post-extraction implant outcomes. He has published over 30 papers..., authored 2 textbooks and contributed chapters to 6 textbooks. Dr Chen is past-president of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Periodontists (ANZAP) and Australasian Osseointegration Society (AOS), and past-chairman of the ITI Australasian Section. He is an honorary life member of the AOS. Dr Chen is currently President of the International Team for Implantology (ITI) and a member of the ITI Board of Directors. Prior to becoming President, he served as chairman of the ITI Education Committee for 8 years, and was an editor of the ITI Online Academy. For his service to dentistry, to dental education, and to professional groups, Dr Chen was appointed Member (AM) of the Order of Australia in 2019.

12.01.2022 ASP 2020 Speaker Profile Prof Sao Ivanovski Sao Ivanovski is the Professor and Chair of Periodontology at the University of Queensland School of Dentistry in Brisbane, Australia, where he is Director of Research and leads the specialist training program in periodontology. He currently combines this position with a part time specialist practice in periodontics and surgical implant dentistry. Saso is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists (FICD), Academy of Dent...istry International (FADI) and International Team of Implantology (ITI), and past federal president of the Australasian Osseointegration Society (AOS) and the Australian Society of Periodontology (ASP). He has published over 160 papers in the peer-reviewed literature and leads an internationally recognized research group with an interest in oro-dental regeneration and tissue engineering, as well as clinical periodontics and implant dentistry. 09.01.2022 Spread the message! Gum Health Day 12th May 2020. Periodontitis is the most common chronic inflammatory disease of humans 8 out of 10 people aged 35 and over suffer from some kind of gum complaint.... Periodontal diseases are the most common conditions to afflict European populations, but are among the least acknowledged. Gum disease can cause tooth loss and affect the rest of the body. Periodontal diseases do not tend to cause pain or intense discomfort. The most frequent symptom is bleeding gums. Periodontal diseases represent a major cause of expenditure in the adult and elderly population. See more

04.01.2022 ASP 2020 - Speaker Profile Dr Andrei Locke Andrei Locke completed his BDSc (Hons) in 1999 and MDSc(Perio) in 2004. He was an ITI Scholar in Bonn, Germany, and returned to Melbourne in 2005 and has worked in private Specialist Periodontics practice since. He is a Specialist Consultant at Monash Medical Centre, clinical demonstrator for the Post-Graduate Periodontics course at Melbourne University and has recently set-up new specialist periodontic rooms, The Perio Group in Glen Iris. He has particular interest in the influence of tissue biotype on hard and soft tissue grafting and implant treatment.

02.01.2022 ASP 2020 speaker profile Prof Axel Spahr Prof Spahr is Head of Discipline Restorative and Reconstructive Dentistry and Subject Area Periodontics as well as Deputy Head of School at The University of Sydney Dental School. He is also Head of the Department Periodontics at the Sydney Dental Hospital.... Axel is the former Head of Periodontics at the University of Ulm in Germany and has worked at various international universities and research facilities. He has additional training in microbiology, molecular biology, extensive experience in basic science research, animal research and clinical research. Prof. Spahrs research interest includes periodontal regeneration, bone regeneration, periodontitis and systemic diseases, antimicrobial therapy as well as dental implants and peri-implant diseases. He has led large externally funded research projects and is collaborating with leading international research groups and companies in the field of periodontology, implantology and bone regeneration. He is author of numerous publications in international peer-reviewed dental and medical journals, book chapters and has presented his work at professional conferences worldwide. Prof. Spahr is a board registered periodontal specialist, he works part time in an established specialist periodontal and implant practice in Sydney and is the past President of the Periodontal Research Group of the International Association of Dental Research (IADR). He is a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI), the International College of Dentists (ICD), and the Pierre Fauchard Academy (PFA). See more
