25.01.2022 Another classy paving job finished, herringbone pattern with a curve means a lot of precise fiddley cutting, not easy with days constantly in the high 30s.....
24.01.2022 A cold Winters day in Sydney, wet, windy and only 12 deg C, apparently coldest day in 3 years, Global Warming, my arse..... Just relaying old bricks at a charming old cottage, should look pretty quaint by the time its grouted and buffed up then some soil, plants and mulch....
24.01.2022 Just letting all clients know that Im fully booked with only a few days available between the last 2 weeks before Christmas from Monday 11th December and Friday 22nd December and these are filling fast. I will then be away from work until Monday 15th January.
23.01.2022 Just a reminder to all my clients and new enquiries that I will be on leave visiting family, friends and gardens in The UK from FRIDAY 1st JULY until MONDAY 1st AUGUST. I will be straight back to work for the last part of Winter and a very busy Spring season.
21.01.2022 Using my latest extendable cordless 36v Stihl Hedgetrimmer, less noise, no fuel and less time up and down ladders, win win.....
21.01.2022 A common problem I see is paving being laid with the wrong sand, there are many different types of sand for specific jobs like bricklaying sand which is fine and used with cement to lay bricks and build walls, this driveway was partially lifted to lay a conduit for an electric cable for automatic gates, and when the builder or whoever relaid pavers used brickies sand instead of a paving sand which is a lot coarser with a small pieces of aggregate in it to take the load of veh...icles, however the job is now done with a final application of another type of sand which is filling sand which is swept back and fourth over pavers to fill in gaps and lock it all in. Another tip is dont ever use a high pressure cleaner on this type of paving as although you end up with clean pavers you end up washing all the filling sand out and the over a period of time the pavers start moving and rubbing together and start cracking, the best way to clean block pavers is yet another type of sand called Washed River Sand, this is a gritty sand which is swept back and forth with a wide broom which creates an abrasive action which buffs up the surface giving them a nice clean matt look. 20.01.2022 A skeleton prune on a sick Citrus Lemon tree, I know it looks severe but a good dose of fertiliser, a couple of bags of cow manure, some mulch and a good deep watering and this tree will regenerate very rapidly and produce a bumper crop of Lemons in 2 years, I will update progress regrown over the next few months. Watch this space.......
18.01.2022 Brings back great memories of college trips and lectures from 1983-86.....
18.01.2022 When planting narrow driveways Ornamental Pears- Pyrus Capital which I have planted on the left hand side are a much better choice than the Purple Maple- Acer spp purpurea originally planted as they can be trained into a flat candelabra shape, as in this driveway which is just 2.3m wide I struggle to get my truck up it, as the beds are only 600mm deep this is much more suitable to achieve a classy looking display up the driveway with these plants having Spring blossoms, good uniformed green foliage throughout Summer, then Autumn colour and good bare architectural structure during Winter, they are also highlighted at night with up lights.
18.01.2022 Potted colour is peaking just in time for a colourful Christmas.....
16.01.2022 Whilst down in Melbourne for my sons basketball I took a quick drive up The Dandenongs to visit Cloudehill Gardens which are part of The Diggers Seed Club gardens, the weather was wet and cold, only 6 degrees, absolutely stunning, reminded me of my early gardening career back in England. Will definitely visit again as well as getting up to St.Erth out near Ballarat and Heronswood much further around the Mornington Peninsula.
15.01.2022 Bit hot by the afternoon but gardens are looking sparkling after plenty of rain in September/October......
15.01.2022 Just some pics of my recent trip to RHS Wisley in Surrey UK, such a lovely soft landscape, wish we could have more of this style of gardens here, going to work on it.....
14.01.2022 Another tall hedge, no problems.....
12.01.2022 Just a friendly reminder to all my clients and followers that I will be overseas in The UK from next Thursday 7th September 2017 and will return to work on Tuesday 26th September 2017......
12.01.2022 Some nice early Autumn flowers from a Camellia sasanqua, outstanding considering the extremely hot Summer, just shows you how forgiving and rewarding plants and gardening are....
09.01.2022 Just added on an additional panel and side gate to finish off fencing and secure this corner block from the road.
09.01.2022 On the start of new job on a steep site, have to clean up lowest part of the garden prior to new plants going in and a good covering of mulch, 61 steps up to road/truck and approximately 80m from road, through front garden, around the side, under the side of the house down a flight of stairs through pool garden then finally down lower stairs to site, over 2-3 days I have done over 90 trips up with a 30kg bin of weeds/rubbish, hence legs are a touch sore.....
09.01.2022 Just a couple of new turfed areas to tie the front lawn into the whole garden.....
09.01.2022 Just a friendly reminder to all my clients that I am back at work from Monday 1st August, lets all Garden On.....

07.01.2022 The beginning of another paving job, simple path from front gate to front door, new steps, a path leading from it to swimming pool and path up side, basic pattern 900mm wide with an offset 600/300 dimension. P.S Its still hot....
07.01.2022 My whinge for the day is plumbers who lift up paving and relay with brickies sand instead of paving sand, either lazy or dumb or both......
07.01.2022 Just to show friends and family back in the UK who have probably never seen a Privet shrub as big as this and also flowering, back home we have them in the family home and down our local streets as boundaries grown as hedges, but here they were introduced and are classified as a noxious weed as they grow so quickly with our hot Summers and mild Winters so they end up producing berries which the birds eat and then redistribute the seeds into the bush and hence they take over from indigenous species, also although the flowers are highly scented the pollen can be a nuisance for asthmatics and allergy sufferers.....
06.01.2022 After up dating my work plan leading up to Christmas it now seems I will be off work until mid-January as Ive fractured my wrist after falling down in a steep garden. To all clients I thank you for your patience and support whilst I recover and I will be back gardening in early 2018.
06.01.2022 Annual trimming of these Camellias in the heat....
05.01.2022 Just a quick blog on my current work schedule with Christmas fast approaching, Im extremely busy at the moment especially with hedges and due to our extended Summer which practically run right up to May and plenty of Winter rain and a gentle Spring the growth has been exceptionally rapid. It seems every job I go to 1 day turns into 2, a 2 day job to 3 and so on, also with a breakdown of what is reasonable in a full day of hedge trimming, normally consisting of 5 hours of mac...hines using the full variety of my Stihl hedge trimmers, 2 hours for a thorough professional clean up and 1 hour to drive to the tip, queuing up and tipping off which amounts to 8 hours or a full day. Another big factor this time of the year is weather with temperatures rising into the 30s with higher to come, high humidity and then rain, this also slows me down as I cant work at the same pace on an extremely hot day compared to a relatively mild day. Also I am currently working for a regular client getting ready for a function at the end of November which has taken me 3 days to get right around the whole gardens, my client booked me in with at least 4 weeks notice, so sometimes at short notice it is near on impossible to be able to get to jobs on such short notice and complete job to my usual high standards and reasonable time expectations, so please be patient and I will be able to get to all my regular clients to whom your custom is truly valued. 03.01.2022 Update on first of 3 new paths, the weather has thrown everything at me this week, started with a perfect Summer day, 2 days of rain, stifling humidity and then searing heat in the early 40s.....
