25.01.2022 COVID-19 INDOOR COMMUNITY SPORT UPDATE Hi everyone, We are certainly getting closer to the day when all of our squash and racquetball players in Victoria will be allowed back on court.... At this stage the only people allowed on a squash court across Victoria are 18 year old’s and younger to a maximum of 20 in the squash area from 11:59 PM on 8th November. Click HERE to download the Third Step for Indoor Community Sport information document. From 11:59 PM on 22nd November we can have up to 100 people of any age. Below is a brief summary on what came out from the state government on the 9th of November. As you can see, no adult across the state is allowed back on court until 23rd November. Indoor Community Sport: Non-contact sport for those aged 18 years and under. Non-contact sport means a sport capable of being done with a distance of 1.5m, including recreational classes. Spectators limited to one parent, guardian or carer only, where the child requires parental supervision. For Squash and Racquetball: Only 2 people per court will be allowed. This could consist of singles match play / rallying, 1 on 1 coaching, solo training. If two players are on court having a coaching session, the coach must either remain outside of the court or be on court with only one player. Doubles play is strictly banned. What are the penalties for non-compliance? Victoria Police can issue on the spot fines of up to $1,652 for individuals and up to $9,913 for businesses. I hope this clarifies the position for you, if you have any further queries please contact me via email at [email protected]

24.01.2022 Mike Bushell, the sports presenter of BBC Breakfast TV fame, does Squash57/UK-Racketball:

24.01.2022 I am not wanting to get nostalgic about times gone bye because the future of Squash57 is looking very good indeed. That said, we in England have a past littered... with epic matches many of which will have been videod by Lawrence Ogden. Lawrence has agreed to make his Squash57 video library available to us (WSF). So, for the benefit of all, are there any matches that you remember particularly 'fondly' where there may have been a GoPro on the balcony? Alternatively, when you are at a competition who have you gone out of your way to watch? We will attempt to find related footage and 'drip feed' these 'best bits' into the world of social media for the Squash57 community. See more

24.01.2022 Geelong, Victoria, Australia fun hit on a cool outdoor court, the building is used as a carpark during the day and we were lucky enough to get a clear run. Some... tough bounces and a little bigger than a squash court but we will take anything with all sports centres closed in Victoria. We are allowed gatherings of up to 10 outdoors. Hope you enjoy World Squash Day, we certainly did. Cameron White Peter French Barry Reid Squash & Racquetball Victoria Squash Australia World Squash Day

05.01.2022 Hi Everyone UPDATE ON THE 2020 RACQUETBALL EVENTS CALENDAR... Please be advised that unfortunately the Commercial Club Australian Open Racquetball Championships which was to be held on 16-18 October, has been cancelled. This means that the only racquetball event left on the 2020 Calendar is the Big4 Whiters Holiday Village Lakes Classic, scheduled for 7/8 November, and we will have an update for you at the end of this month. In regard to the Australian and Victorian Open Racquetball Championships, both these events were to be up for tender for the three year period 2021 2023, but due to their cancellations because of COVID, the 2020 hosts, the Mt Districts Squash and Racquetball Club for the Victorian Open, and the Commercial Club Albury for the Australian Open, both these clubs will have their hosting rights for 2020 transferred across into 2021. This means that the tender documents for the three year period 2022 2024 will be released during July next year. THE SCOTT HABERECHT STORY Over the past couple of weeks Squash and Racquetball Victoria has been featuring stories on our much needed squash and racquetball volunteers. 04.01.2022 In the beginning......this is an account from Gavin Thomas of how Squash 57/Racketball started in South Africa. Wayne Fyvie brought two rackets and a ball to S...outh Africa in 2006 and started playing with his rugby mate Rolf at Westville Virgin Active. Rod Soutter saw them playing and tried it out. Rod saw the appeal and imported two racquets from USA and three balls from Price Balls in UK. Rod Soutter, Tim Harkness and Gavin Thomas tried it out for the first time at Westville Country Club in January 2007. All three gave up squash and concentrated on racketball. Rod saw the commercial opportunity and imported 200 Wish rackets from China in 2007 and another 30 Head rackets from USA whilst waiting for the Chinese racquets to arrive. All those racquets were sold by June 2007 and thereafter Rod imported and sold over 2000 racquets by the end of 2008. Rod Soutter and Gavin Thomas ran a Tuesday evening league at Berea Rovers in October/November 2008, the results of which were published in the Natal Mercury on Wednesday mornings. A list of players who participated is listed below. Rod organised Racketball exhibitions at Westville, La Lucia and Cascades Virgin Active, Berea Rovers, Crusaders, Umhlali, Tongaat, Pietermaritzburg Collegians, Pietermaritzburg Golf Club, Hilton Club, YMCA Pietermaritzburg. During this time Westville Country Club, Kloof Country Club and Umhlali Country Club BANNED racketball from their courts. Thereafter Rod toured the country introducing Racketball to East London, PE, Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Johannesburg, Potchefstroom and Pretoria. He also introduced the game to KZN towns such as Empangeni/Richards Bay, Port Shepstone, Dundee and Underberg. He introduced the game to schools such as Glenwood High School, Westville Boys High School, Kearsney College, Hilton College, Thomas More and Michaelhouse. The schools squash representatives and coaches actively discouraged racketball!
