21.01.2022 A Sunshine Coast teenager is planning to spend next year travelling Australia on his tractor. 17-year-old Sam Hughes only got his P-plates two weeks ago but can...’t wait to see the Aussie outback in his 1957 Chamberlain 9G, all while raising money for several charities. "If the borders open, I'll be going down to Port Augusta, cross the Nullarbor WA up along the Coast, up to Darwin, Darwin down to Alice, Alice up to Camooweal, and Camooweal to Longreach and Mount Isa. - The Travelling Jackaroo, Sam Hughes. www.7NEWS.com.au #7NEWS

12.01.2022 A TALE OF (JOGGING BETWEEN) TWO CITIES If you’ve ever wondered how long it would take to run from Horsham to Portland, Natimuk’s Sam Anson now has the ans...wer: 29 hours and 26 minutes. After years of travelling between his parent’s houses in the two towns by car while growing up, Sam recently completed the incredible feat of fitness, in a jog that was as much about personal goals as it was raising awareness for a good cause. I randomly thought when I was about 10, ‘you know, this would be pretty cool to run one day’. I guess I wanted to peel back some layers of myself and just see what I was capable of achieving. Sam set off at 6am on a Friday, and ran through the night. I had probably five minutes sleep about 10 kilometers out of Portland. I don’t know why but I'm able to have a really quick sleep and then I’m pretty energised, so I’m lucky that I can do that. He stopped along the way to fill up on supplies at Cherrypool, Cavendish and Branxholme, but was pretty well prepared for nearly thirty hours on the road. I had a camel pack that was full of food and I had a front pouch bag thing that was full of food and then I had this massive raincoat that could fit five of me in there, and all the pockets were just full of food," he said. I had about eight kilos. But there was another motivation behind the jog. I used drink quite a fair bit, and have a few party drugs every now and then. I just wanted to show people that I was in a real big rut," he said. You play footy and then, you know, drink for two or three days and I just want to show people that no matter how bad or how much horror you think you’re in, there is always a way to dig your way out. Sam turned his life around by changing his surroundings. I surrounded myself with different people and change the people I hang around and started following people that were doing things that I wanted to do. Now I feel like I’m starting to set an example." But this South-Western marathon is not the only test of endurance that Sam wants to put himself through. My next goal is going to be running the Grampians from one side to the other. I haven't mapped it out or anything but I think it's around 160kms. A completely different run again because it's a lot of trail running, lot of incline, that sort of stuff, so the training will be different. And I think it'll be a bit more scenic, to be honest, rather than looking at the paddocks and bitumen. What an effort Where's the furthest you've ever run?
