25.01.2022 Pushing into some decent swells with 2 reefs in the main

25.01.2022 And were off heading to Hummocky island for our dinner stop

23.01.2022 Whales up close near double island point

23.01.2022 The sun was setting and the moon was rising to give a spectacular light show in Hervey Bay

22.01.2022 Aussieboating is up and running again as MSQ has given clearance to conduct courses. Due to covid-19, restrictions will be applied ie 2 students at a time on the vessel. Appropriate PPE and cleaning to be in place at all times. But at least we can move forward.

22.01.2022 it's ok this morning but a strong wind warning for the weekend is going to not much fun on the water

22.01.2022 An extract from MSQs web site on updates to children and PWCs Kids and PWCs It is great fun to involve the whole family in your boating and PWC adventures.... A couple of quick points about kids and PWCs. You should: operate your PWC only with the child seated behind you, never between you and the handle bars only have passengers who can place both feet at the same time firmly in the foot wells of the PWC have the correct number of people on board for the number of seats available. It is no longer considered safe to count children under 12 years of age as half a person. Three seats means 3 people - no matter the age. Operating outside of these points may leave you liable to prosecution in regards to your general safety obligations, under Transport Operations Marine Safety Regulation. MSQs marine incident data shows us this is the safest practice for your family. 21.01.2022 Anchord at TinCanBay for the night. A fire burns on sunset behind the marina and the moon rises opposite. Very quite and peaceful. Take on the Wide Bay bar in the morning with tide and wind in our favour then the long sail back to manly

20.01.2022 We need more patrols to catch idiots who ruin fishing and crabbing for everyone

20.01.2022 Arrieved at inskip point 1 pm just lunch so not a bad effort of 31 hours with a stop for 1/2 hour breakfast. Going to have a nap before dinner then a proper sleep. Taking on the wide bay bar in the morning but wind and tide are in our favour

19.01.2022 BoatSafe The BoatSafe program management documents have been reviewed (1 September 2020) to provide a clearer framework for the BoatSafe trainers and outline MSQ's expectations for how our new boaties are being assessed as competent skippers. To support this focus, we want to ensure every student understands what is expected of them when attending a BoatSafe course. The following key points is what a typical boat course includes:... Online or face to face theory training 50 question multiple choice theory assessment (45mins to complete) 100% pass requirement Practical training driving the boat (until you are competent in all tasks) Practical assessment you must successfully complete all tasks to be deemed competent We encourage you to practice driving a boat with another licenced skipper before arriving at a BoatSafe course - you may not be competent in driving the boat in just one day. The BoatSafe trainers in most cases will offer training sessions if you don't have friends or family with boats that you can practice on. These training sessions should be used in the same way that new car driver would engage with a car driving instructor. For a typical PWC course it will include: Online or face to face theory training Multiple choice theory assessment (45mins to complete) 100% pass mark Practical training driving the PWC (until you are competent in all tasks) Practical assessment you must successfully complete all tasks to be deemed competent As we do with the boat training, we encourage you to practice riding a PWC with another licenced skipper or with a BoatSafe Trainer you may not be competent in riding a PWC in just a few hours. Some of the activities you should practice for both the PWC and Boat are: Man overboard drill Safely approach a floating object Port and starboard turn on and off the plane Figure 8 manoeuvre on and off the plane Berthing and unberthing General navigation and control of the ship/PWC Operate at 6 knots or less Practical Assessment Recreational Marine Driver Licence The following video demonstrates some of the practical activities you will be required to undertake during your BoatSafe course.

18.01.2022 Just arrived in Yeppoon then will sail back to Manly avoiding the Strong wind warning

13.01.2022 At Rosslyn bay about to get organised to leave port

13.01.2022 After a ling sail from Keppel we are anchored for the night and a hot meal in pankcake creek. We reached 25 kts wind and averaged 7 knts over ground.

13.01.2022 Anchored at the wrecks foe the night

12.01.2022 Started at 6am pancake creek then south to sandy straights watched a great sunset at 1770 then through the night to navigate with numerous dodgy nav lights to south white cliffs to end up anchoring in the fog at 6am the next day

12.01.2022 This is what gives pwc riders a bad name. Shame the water police arrived about half an hour later. This idiot was about 30-40 metres from the boat ramp this morning

11.01.2022 A tug towing a barge just came in the bar as we are heading out so the bar should be ok. Coast guard Tin Can Bay had the latest waypoints to use and they were spot on love it when a plan comes together

11.01.2022 From the 1st October the way boat and pwc licensing has changed, I believe for the better as can be seen in the link from MSQ Boatsafe of what is expected of you to master a recreational vessel https://youtu.be/zBSliXLz-8Y Due to the extra work involved, times taken to train and assess have increased and so has the cost associated with complying with the Boatsafe Rules. So please understand these changes will hopefully make you a safer and better boat operator.

11.01.2022 Anchored at M/ba for the night. Not much breeze forecast today so will be a slow sail back to the bay

11.01.2022 Registration A registered EPIRB allows AMSA search and rescue to phone your emergency contacts and look up important information about your vessel, and to initiate a response as soon as possible. An unregistered EPIRB can cause a delay in the response. It is mandatory to register your EPIRB

10.01.2022 The wind has started to build up already pushing towards the gale warning later on. Good time to put the feet up

10.01.2022 Passed wolf rock and passing double island point

10.01.2022 View of Morton island coming up viewed from east of the north banks

09.01.2022 Another day at the office

09.01.2022 We might be limited to two customers at a time but its a great looking day to be on the water

09.01.2022 Due to the 1.5 metre rule MSQ has suspended all PWC licence training until further notice. Sorry for the inconvenience but boating is all about safety first. Thanks

08.01.2022 We might be limited to two customers at a time but it’s a great looking day to be on the water

07.01.2022 Another great day to be on the water away from covid-19

04.01.2022 Another windy weekend at Jacobs Well

04.01.2022 Punching sort of south with 2 reefs in the sail

03.01.2022 Okay.. While we’re doing so well at Social Distancing here’s the thing.. The last few years have taught me that when it is our time to leave this world no one can stop it. We have one life to live. The material things we invest in are left behind only to be discarded. Memories are important to me. I'm going to start a "reunion of friends and family". The idea is to see who reads a post without a picture. If no one reads my post, this will be a very short experiment. But if you are reading this message, make a comment using a single word about how we met. After that, copy this message on your wall and I will also leave you a word. Please, don't leave a word and then not bother doing it.

03.01.2022 Passing rainbow beach
