18.01.2022 STOP FRIDGE BINGING- HOW TO SNACK LIKE A PRO Snacks are essential for a healthy diet! It can help regulate and manage our blood sugar levels, keeping our metabolism working more efficiently, consistently and effectively. In an ideal world, a piece of fruit from the local super market, or pre-prepared veggie sticks with a homemade hummus dip would be the perfect 3pm pick me up ... BUT let's be realistic, these options aren't always viable, but this does not mean we have to make bad decisions The main reason we snack is to fill gaps between our main meals, and to prevent us from over eating at our main meals. This only derails us when the foods we chose are high in sugar and ‘bad’ fats, highly processed, high in calories, and low in nutrients. For healthy snacking we need to take into consideration the content of what we are consuming, when we are snacking, and how much we are eating. Tips to healthy snacking : Snacks should be high in protein. High protein foods help us feel fuller for longer. When choosing a snack, it is important to consider the calorie count. On average, our meals should be about 300-400 calories, while our snacks should be half the amount. Nutritionally balanced snacks are vital. High protein snacks are great but it is also important that the snacks are high in fibre and low in sugar too. Plan your snacks. If you have ever tried meal prepping, you know that it works. Prepare your snacks and have them ready to go as this will prevent fridge binging and purchases of high sugar foods as the only alternative. Here are some suggestions of snacks that are high protein, high in fibre, low in sugar, and less low in calories, and that are affordable and easily accessible: = Mixed Nuts = Hard Boiled Eggs = Beans and Lentils = Peanut Butter and Celery Snack options from Aussie Bodies: Aussie Bodies Nourish Protein bars (Coconut Crisp shown above) Aussie Bodies Low Carb Bar

02.01.2022 POST WORKOUT SNACKS & TIPS After exercise, proper nutrition is needed to repair and maintain our muscles Demystifying post workout nutrition ... Protein is especially important after a workout because while we exercise we are effectively breaking down our muscles The muscle breaks down during exercise, and undergoes repair post workout, and during recovery. By consuming protein post workout, it fuels us with much needed amino acids, the building blocks of protein, which optimises our muscle repair When we work out our muscles also use up their glycogen stores for immediate energy. As a result, our muscles become, somewhat, depleted of glycogen. So after your session, it is only natural for your body to try and rebuild its glycogen stores, as well as want to repair and regrow the muscle proteins that get destroyed. Eating appropriate nutrition encourages this process. Protein is especially important to consume after a workout. After your next workout try this peanut Smoothie with our Nourish Protein Powder! It's vegan? Don't mind if I do! i n g r e d i e n t s 2 scoop Aussie Bodies Nourish Protein Powder Cocoa Bean powder 1 cup milk alternative (Nut, Oat, Soy or Coconut milk) (250ml) 1 fresh banana (frozen if you'd prefer) 2 tablespoons peanut butter Blend and pour! You can add some extra fruit/veggies, ice, yogurt (milk alternative if keeping vegan) - whatever floats your boat to add more thickness or flavour!!

01.01.2022 What does protein do for me? Talked about as much as Bridgerton , high protein diets are everywhere. Protein's plot might need a little bit more explantation though! WHAT IS PROTEIN? ... Protein, along with fat and carbohydrates is classified as a macronutrient. This means your body needs to consume these to stay healthy. But unlike fats and carbohydrates, your body is unable to store protein for later. Therefore, it’s important to regularly consume protein. WHAT DOES IT DO? Most of us know that protein helps to build and repair muscle, but protein also has many other important roles in the body. It helps to maintain our bones, tendons, ligaments, hair and skin and is vital for the transportation of oxygen throughout the body. Protein is also important for hormone production and maintaining a healthy immune system. HOW MUCH DO WE NEED? It is recommended to consume between 0.7 1.7 grams of protein per body weight or 15-25% of your daily energy intake. This intake also depends on your age, gender, activity level and whether or not you are pregnant. The most effective way of fulfilling your daily protein is to eat a small amount of protein at each meal. Great sources of protein include lean meat, fish, dairy, eggs, nuts and seeds. Planning meals will help you to eat enough protein at meal time, but finding a protein filled recipe can sometimes be tricky.
