25.01.2022 Product review: The Doggie Don't Device Please note: this is un paid review, I bought one, I tried it, and here's my thoughts.... (I'll pop a video in comments) The Doggie Don't Device is a small handheld correction device, that emits a sound, like an electrical crackling/ taser noise. Its just sound. ... I believe it was originally intended for correcting unwanted behaviour in your own pet, eg counter surfing, etc. I will add in here, that I have not to date used it in that way. But I do carry it with me every day on the job, as a deterrent against incoming unleashed dogs, while at parks and out walking. Too often myself and my clients have been rushed at and chased by out-of-control dogs, which is really shitty when you are working with mostly reactive dogs and puppies! I've had to fight off dogs that were intent on messing my clients dogs up, and I am really getting over it! So I've been carrying this with me for a little while now, ready to warn off anyone who is uninvited! This week I got the chance to give it a really good test, on a "friendly dog" (ps: his intentions were FAR from "friendly" !!) that ran away from its owner, and rushed my client's reactive Rotti. This situation would have got seriously ugly, super quickly, if I hadn't either a) Caught the off leash dog and hauled it away, or b) had success with the Doggie Don't Device. So I blocked this guy, pulled out the device and started pressing the button. He initially stopped dead in his tracks, then tried to get around me, I just kept on at him, and it was clear that the sound was really having a huge impact on his mindset and approach, and after a few tries, he retreated enough for the owner to grab him, while my client moved their dog away. I would presume a softer dog, with more of an inquisitive intent than this dog had, would likely retreat faster. But if nothing else it bought us a few valuable seconds of time to create space and defuse the situation somewhat. I think it's super important when rehabilitating reactive dogs, to be able to effectively advocate for the dog, and it's something I always teach. Having this in your pocket might just give you the upper hand or buy some time before the poop hits the fan! It's a good idea to get your on dog used to the sound, by pointing it away from them, at a distance, so they don't freak out if you ever need it in the heat of the moment. But you can see in the video I'm going to pop in comments, how directional the sound is. So for me, I give it a 10/10, and money well spent! https://www.facebook.com/doggiedontdevice

24.01.2022 Foothills Animal Hospital would like to warn the Armadale and surrounds community that Canine PARVOVIRUS has once again reared its ugly head. Parvovirus is a HI...GHLY contagious virus that can survive in the environment for years. Treatment of parvovirus is intensive and expensive. The only way to protect your furry family member from this horrible disease is to vaccinate. Please contact the clinic now if you think that your dog is not up to date with their vaccines.

24.01.2022 Merry Christmas Wishing you all a safe, relaxing and peaceful festive season. See you in 2021! -Paula and Co.

24.01.2022 PLEASE LEAVE THEM IN THE SHOPS Just a little warning regarding the Christmas treat many stores are now starting to stock for dogs at Christmas. Many of thes...e so called treats end up with the dog "enjoying" some time in a veterinary surgery over Christmas. The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China. The chews are made from cattle or horse hides and their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell. Now comes the pretty festive colours and the glue to form cute shapes. On testing, these chews have shown traces of arsenic, mercury, chromium and formaldehyde. If that wasn't bad enough, they regularly cause intestinal blockages, poisoning from chemical residue and choking. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog. Leave them in the shop where they belong or if some well meaning person buys them for your dog put them safely away for later, then dispatch in the bin! Please be safe with your dogs!

23.01.2022 Took my son for a haircut... someone stole the limelight.... and the blow dryer .... A bit of a midweek chuckle!

23.01.2022 Good news... it’s looking like I’ve found a great private fenced area for our group catch ups! I’ll be putting up more details and dates in the group page as soon as it’s confirmed! This will be a safe place for all the reactive recovery dogs and the nervous dogs and everything in between! A place where you won’t be shunned for your dog being a little difficult or for using certain tools, where we can incorporate socialising, obedience, exposure, some basic agility skills and more. These group sessions will be open to my current and past private -program clients. *watch this space!*

22.01.2022 Magic happens when great people work together! The Balanced Canine Group of WA recently staged a street walk for our respective clients and their dogs, in order to get in some solid real-world practice of being calm and in control when passing dogs on the street! Our awesome trainers on the day were: Lauren - The Holstic Hound Dog Training Helina - My BUDdy Canine Training... Jacqui - Dog Sense Training and Behaviour Paula - Aussie Dog Training See more

20.01.2022 *Limited private sessions available* As we get to the silly season, places for private sessions becomes rather slim, so if you need to book in, don't delay. From Christmas through January school holidays, places will be even slimmer! So if you are a current or past client, please be sure to add yourself to the GROUP PAGE as I'm planning some extra group events there to keep you on track!

19.01.2022 I’m not one to blow my my own trumpet , but I just had to share, as reviews like this are not only invaluable as a small business operator, but it also really makes me proud of the way I can help people enjoy their dogs more. And seeing people get to that, is why I do what I do. Thank you for your kind words Emily (& Dean).

18.01.2022 This strong fella Tane is learning some new walking skills, manners out in public and generally how to listen rather than lead!

01.01.2022 Are you inadvertently rewarding your dog’s bad behaviour?! It happens easily! Think a toddler tantrum... do you give in and therefore make it work for the dog when they display hyper arousal or bratty behaviour or put the skids on? Think about the payment system you are working with ... what does your dog find rewarding? Play, freedom, food, affection, are all rewards, so use them for calm state of mind, control, eye contact! ... Mr Sid rocked his final lesson today with a beach visit.
