16.01.2022 I arrived at the address and honked the horn. After waiting a few minutes I honked again. Since this was going to be my last ride of my shift I thought about just driving away, but instead I put the car in park and walked up to the door and knocked.. 'Just a minute', answered a frail, elderly voice. I could hear something being dragged across the floor. After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 90's stood before me. She was wearing a print dress and a pillbox...Continue reading

13.01.2022 AMC - Update regarding AMC clinical exam This communication is an update on the AMC’s efforts to recommence the AMC clinical examination. The AMC has been developing an alternative method of delivering the AMC clinical examination in response to COVID-19 to avoid a long-term postponement of the examinations and enable AMC candidates continuation of their examination pathway towards registration for practice in Australia. The alternative clinical examination will be deliver...ed online initially via the Zoom platform, although in the longer term other delivery methods will be examined. The online interaction will involve an invigilator, a simulated patient, and the candidate. The examination will be recorded and marked after the examination by an AMC examiner. The alternative clinical examination will retain the current structure of 14 scored stations and two unscored stations (pilots). The required pass mark will continue to be 10 or higher. The AMC Clinical Examination Results Panel will continue to analyse candidate and examination performance, as it formally approves candidate results. At the AMC Directors meeting held on 17 September, approval for the implementation of the alternate clinical examination online delivery method was confirmed, based on the following- A two-phased approach of: 1. An initial objective to recommence the clinical examinations in February 2021, while ensuring examination validity and reliability remain consistent with the current clinical examination. 2. A second objective to implement broader improvements for the long-term development and improvement of the clinical examination late 2021. Ongoing communication and engagement with examination candidates is a priority for the AMC. Examination candidates will be provided with further information as the AMC progresses. It is expected the next stage of communications will occur toward the end of November 2020 regarding intended recommencement dates. Where possible, the information will also be provided earlier. The safety of all examination participants and the community and the maintenance of the highest standards continue to be the paramount considerations for the AMC.
12.01.2022 AN UPDATE FOR GP's WHO WANT TO SIT FELLOWSHIP EXAMS WITH RACGP OR ACRRM FROM JANUARY 2022 Changes will come into effect from January 2022 where all doctors wanting to become a Fellow with either RACGP or ACRRM will be required to be a part of an approved training program. This relates to all doctors not just Permanent Residents or Australian Citizens. The approved training programs are:... RACGP AGPT, RVTS or PEP and ACRRM: AGPT, RVTS and ACRRM Independent Pathway. As well, if you are or will be on MDRAP, SAPP or RLRP from 2022 and have not complete all components of your fellowship exams by January 2022 you will need to join one of the above approved training programs to be eligible to sit for your exams. One of the questions I am often asked is: What will happen if I have only passed one or may be two of the components of the exams? At this stage indications are from the Colleges, if you have already sat and/or passed one or two of the fellowship exams prior to January 2022 but unable to take the balance of the exams until January 2022, you will be required to join one of the above training programs. The good news is your placement time on one of these training programs is your placement will likely be for a shorter period of time.

09.01.2022 AUSTRALIAN MEDICAL COUNCIL ADVICE - 6 AUGUST 2020 The AMC have released the following update regarding the clinical exam. IN A NUTSHELL - An alternative method of delivery via online & digital components is being developed with further information being released in September 2020.... All AMC Clinical examinations will be postponed until further notice and the AMC National Test Centre is closed. The recommencement of clinical examinations is a priority for the AMC. Any solution to recommence examinations must ensure they are delivered in a safe and responsible manner that meets both government health guidelines and legislative requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic. In accordance with Australian and international government health regulations, the AMC has postponed all clinical examinations and closed our Melbourne and Canberra offices to ensure the health and safety of all those we work with. While the vast majority of International Medical Graduates (IMGs) and examination candidates have expressed their support and understanding of the AMC approach, many are also keen to progress with the clinical examination in order to meet requirements for Medical Board of Australian and AHPRA registration as a medical practitioner. This is important for IMGs as well as Australian health systems and communities. While the AMC is currently planning for the re-opening of the National Test Centre, the AMC is also currently developing solutions to deliver the clinical examination content through alternate delivery methods rather than the traditional OSCE format. The solution will continue to ensure the integrity, reliability, and validity of the clinical examination according to the AMCs organisational purpose. It will also support improved accessibility to the examination. The delivery of online & digital components of the current examination blueprint and content is being developed. Ongoing communication and engagement with examination candidates is a priority for the AMC. Examination candidates will be engaged and provided with further information as the AMC progresses toward a solution. It is expected the next stage of communications will occur toward the end of September 2020 regarding an implementation approach, further detail, and intended recommencement dates. Where possible, information will also be provided earlier. The safety of all examination participants and the community continues to be a paramount consideration for the AMC along with the recommencement of the clinical examination as soon as possible. Due to the current AMC office closure, the Clinical team are unable to attend to any phone contact. Please contact the Clinical team by using this link: https://www.amc.org.au/about/contact-the-amc/
