25.01.2022 If, just like us, you are longing for a holiday, here's a selection of some of the entries we received for our photography competition last year, courtesy of AI...PA pilots. These take us back to the days when our planes were flying and were full of passengers! Hopefully we can get you back in the skies very soon, doing what we love and what we do best. Until then, we can dream...

18.01.2022 As South Australia enters a six-day lockdown period in an attempt to curb the outbreak within the state, we wish all our members and residents there well. Meanwhile, NSW continues to report zero community cases over the past few days and initial details for NYE around the shorter seven-minute fireworks display at midnight have been released. With the number of people allowed at outdoor gatherings to increase from 23 November, both the Chief Health Officer, Kerry Chat and Premier, Gladys Berejiklian are urging NSW residents to maintain vigilance and observe social distancing restrictions.

18.01.2022 With the federal budget providing an additional $317.1m for the extension of the International Freight Assistance Mechanism (IFAM), AIPA's vice president questions why any flights transporting Australian freight are allocated to overseas airlines. For the Australian economy, the Australian people, we’re much better off having Australian carriers flying that freight and doing that work," Allocating this flying to the Qantas Group generates money for more than just Qantas, it... helps the Australian aviation industry as a whole. Read the article, by Robyn Ironside for The Australian, in full below.

17.01.2022 Although it is a small step, it is one in the right direction. After six long months Heinemann Tax & Duty Free has opened one of its Duty Free stores in Terminal 1 on a trial basis to cater for the small amount of passengers that are able to travel at the moment. Thanks for sharing Sydney Airport we hope to see many more of these posts in the coming weeks and months.

17.01.2022 The Qantas Founders Museum, Longreach, Queensland will be celebrating Qantas' 100th birthday on November 16 with birthday cake, guided tours and brand-new 3D animation light show exhibition. This will be the museum's first big event since its reopening in July after it was closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, and it's sure to be a spectacular showcasing of Qantas' long history. We encourage aviation-enthusiasts to consider visiting the museum for this immersive experienc...e. More information can be found on the museum's website: https://qfom.com.au/event/qantas-centenary-birthday/

15.01.2022 Today NSW cheered the arrival of Victorians back to Sydney with a colourful, vibrant welcome from Destination NSW waiting for flight QF401 this morning. Many relatives and loved ones were reunited after long separations and joy filled the arrivals hall once again. We look forward to seeing many more of these reunions over the coming weeks as our pilots take to the skies and the busiest route in Australia gets back to business!

15.01.2022 What do you do when your lifelong career is put on hold, indefinitely, and you have no idea when you will get back to it? Well, this group of Qantas pilots have retrained as bus drivers, and while they may have swapped an A380 for a very different type of transport, it is evident they take great pride in their work and are grateful to use their skills in a new job. Their emotions run high as they describe how difficult it is to press pause on a career they love so dearly. ... If you missed this great interview by Lisa Wilkinson for The Project on Sunday night watch it here...

14.01.2022 With cases of COVID-19 on the rise again in the UK and some European countries, Aussies stranded overseas are more desperate than ever to get home. Over 29,000 Australian residents and citizens remain stuck, forced to spend months away from their loved ones, homes and jobs. Yet here our pilots remain grounded. AIPA pilots are ready to get back to work to bring Australians home, as they have done many times before during a crisis.

12.01.2022 Lots of excitement and emotion at Sydney Airport this morning as we greeted our Victorian neighbours on Qantas flight QF401 with a vibrant Sydney-style welcome!... To coincide with the border reopening, our ‘Great Escape’ marketing campaign kicked off in Victoria today encouraging residents to hop the fence and explore the incredible coast, countryside and outback of NSW. #LoveNSW #ilovesydney

12.01.2022 Aviation employees are hurting. Australian financial institutions are not extending support and assistance to those in our industry. The deferral of home loans ...that was instituted by many banks at the start of the pandemic is now coming to an end, without regard to individuals’ specific circumstances. Some people are now in dire financial situations. Whilst other industries are slowing getting back up to speed, this is not the case for international and domestic pilots who are facing long-term stand down. In light of the border announcement by Queensland on Friday the A4ANZ (Airlines for Australia and New Zealand) is calling for the reopening of our domestic borders stating the prolonged grounding hurting other parts of the aviation and tourism ecosystem that depend so heavily on having planes flying. Targeted financial support is what is needed and AIPA is calling on financial institutions to consider its customers who are severely impacted by the long terms effects of COVID on the aviation industry.

11.01.2022 Could pre-departure COVID tests be the answer to getting flights back to pre-Covid levels? The CEO of British Airways warns the entire aviation industry is at risk if passengers do not get back in the skies quickly and, pre-departure testing could be the answer to getting people travelling safely again. This theory is supported by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) who want a global standard adopted that involves departure testing with no quarantine anywhere.... To keep the global aviation industry from collapse, borders needs to open, and we need to get passengers back in the air, safely.

08.01.2022 Last night’s Federal Budget included more than $250 million for a Regional Tourism Recovery Package to encourage domestic travel and boost regional tourism. This is good news for Australia’s tourism and domestic aviation industries, which will benefit from an influx of local holiday-makers. But the road to recovery for Australia’s international aviation industry is increasingly uncertain, with overseas travel looking unlikely until at least late 2021.... The government has more work to do to support workers in the industry beyond the current measures and AIPA will continue to push government for a plan to ensure the industry's survival into the future.

07.01.2022 Granted its ‘Certificate of Incorporation’ as Q.A.N.T.A.S on the 16th of November 1920, its story really began during the closing days of WW1, before a chance m...eeting in Central Queensland then culminated in the famous meeting at Brisbane’s Gresham Hotel. As we grapple with the present serious situation, Qantas pilots and flight engineers should be proud of the contribution of each successive generation in honouring the legacy of the Qantas founders. From all of us at AIPA, Happy 100th Birthday Qantas.

07.01.2022 The US Government is considering extending an additional US$25 billion in payroll assistance to major U.S. passenger airlines, following large-scale voluntary and involuntary redundancies across the industry. This payroll assistance will flow directly to workers and is almost 13 times the amount provided by the Australian Government specifically to the Australian aviation industry during the COVID-19 pandemic, none of which has flowed to employees. AIPA will continue calling on the Australian Government to provide a targeted PilotKeeper Program, because we know that preserving the jobs of highly skilled aviation workers is critical to the survival of the industry.

02.01.2022 Scott Rennie, a Qantas A380 pilot, has been grounded since the entire fleet of A380s stopped flying in March this year. This enforced break from a job he loves, gave him the opportunity to put an idea he had for some time into action. So, with the help of friends who already ran small businesses, and a lot of time spent teaching himself new skills, Scott has given himself a new career that he can build on until the pandemic ends.... 02.01.2022 Dreaming, dreaming and more dreaming!!!!

01.01.2022 AIPA pilots are taking legal action against the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) over their approval of a new fatigue risk management system (FRMS) for Qantas. It means pilots can be planned to fly for longer than ever before, and it has been approved without consulting them over their concerns about the risks. In refusing to engage with AIPA, the regulator CASA has ignored international conventions and denied itself necessary information to allow a fully informed deci...sion on fatigue. While they may still be grounded for the immediate future, Australian pilots have a proud history of maintaining the world’s safest airline industry and they intend to keep it that way.
