24.01.2022 Venus Bay SA. A must do spot if you are in the region. Just stunning. A fascinating mix of wild, rugged coastline and peaceful, serene bay.
23.01.2022 Hello Coffin Bay SA! Been waiting along time to get to this spot and it is more beautiful than we imagined. This is from the yacht club where we are having a wine watching the sun go down. Great little club in prime position with a simple menu. Open fri/sun/wed! Can’t wait to explore this region over the next few weeks.
22.01.2022 Tonight by the fire in Coffin Bay SA. Graeme has included some oyster shells in the fire pit to really make it represent the local environment. Roast chook from a local farm in the air fryer and a wine. Life is good.#noregrets
22.01.2022 We had a fantastic 'paddock to plate' experience today at Minniribbie Farm, Wangary SA. if you are visiting Coffin Bay, it is just out of town. Berkshire piggies galore to watch, a quirky vintage shop, and a hidden gem of a cafe. Looks a bit on the rustic side but the food is really great. Porky goodness and old fashioned(tasty, well portioned), serves on the simple but satisfying menu. We had pork burgers and the best chocolate milkshakes we have had for ages. You can also purchase from the cafe, products that the farm sells online and in local markets. We stocked up on bacon and speck. The owner said that they have been flat out selling their products since the pandemic as Aussies are now looking for 'real' pork/bacon instead of imported pork products. That is great to hear!
21.01.2022 Port Lincoln is an amazing place to visit in SA. The seafood capital of the nation if the amount of trawlers in the harbor is any indication. We have heard it also has the highest number of millionaires per capita in AUS......they must all have boats! The weather has been kind and we are enjoying the coastline and staying at the Port Lincoln Tourist Park. Well-positioned, well maintained, and great views. A 'must-do' tour is the 'Fresh Fish Place' factory tour. Great info ab...out the local seafood industry and a tour of the factory. Book via the visitor center. You get a tasting of their local made bites(smoked & pickled everything!) and just watching the ladies in the filleting room was worth it.....I will never complain about the price of fish again! It was very interesting gaining an understanding of how the price is affected by the elements, wastage and handling. The prices have all been impacted by the Covid 19 situation and prices on local oysters and King George whiting have never been so low. A bonus for those of us who are happy to make the most of it while we can but the fishermen and fishmongers are all suffering and trying to adapt and find new markets. We have watched the fishing boats go past each day on their way to the massive holding nets in the bay to harvest the Kingfish & Tuna in season currently and to catch the sardines to feed them. Aquaculture enterprises here are extraordinary. Farming oysters, muscles, Kingfish, and Tuna and sustainability is the catch cry for all as they aim to protect their precious resources for the future. Everything has a season or catch quota. Plentiful squid, whiting, a variety of deep-sea fish, and more than their fair share of SHARKS! We have been here for 2 weeks and feel like we have only scratched the surface. We will be back. 18.01.2022 Just crossed into SA and picked this spot for our night stopover! Great way to finish a day on the road. Scenic lookout No4 just east of Bordertown!
13.01.2022 Coffin Bay camp fire. With oyster shells as part of the camp fire perimeter! Roast chook from a local grower and all the trimmings. Oh.....and wine!
07.01.2022 This little bit of heaven is just a few km’s up the road from Cheynes Beach. Pristine clear waters, I can only imagine how gorgeous this is in summer. Camp spots for tents all around and if you have a kayak......perfect spot to hang out.
07.01.2022 If you are looking for a way to explore Coffin Bay by water and have a great fishing experience then you have to give Dan from GT Fishing Charters a call while in the area(0408 691 469). Dan went above and beyond to make our day worthwhile, we caught a very good feed of KG whiting, had a great day out on the water exploring the bay and nothing to do but jump aboard! Dan looks after all the bait, rods, cleaning, and filleting. We came home with some top tips on how to catch a fish and gained lots of general knowledge of the area. Dan has a stellar reputation and now we know why. https://www.gtfishingcharters.com.au/
06.01.2022 We are very happy to be cruising the vast coastline of SA. Starting at Ceduna and slowly making our way around the peninsulas. We do love an oyster and this is certainly oyster central. Our oyster odyssey and tasting tour began with Smoky Bay oysters. 6 dozen(shucked), for $108 for only 3 people......may have been overkill but we managed. I had no idea how many oyster growers were in this tiny town. There seems to be more oyster farms than houses! Pristine waters make the p...erfect growing conditions and we will probably push the limits of our oyster-eating abilities over the coming weeks. A stroll out to the end of the jetty was a real treat as we watched a massive school of fish shelter under us and a hungry seal cruise through, feasting as he glided through the water. We are staying at the caravan park on the foreshore and have a beach view.....our favourite place to be. We will sleep well being lulled by the ocean. #noregrets See more
06.01.2022 We have been spoilt for beautiful beaches on this WA trip but this little spot is moving up the ‘top spot’ charts. Cheynes Beach, 60 Km’s east of Albany. Whale central in the coming months and easily spotted from the beach and rocks near the caravan park. Tiny township very proud of their little piece of heaven. Protected bay that is HUGE, easy 4wd tracks to adventure and a beach that goes forever.
02.01.2022 Ceduna.....doing it tough!
01.01.2022 A fire on the beach! No better way to watch the sunset. Streaky Bay SA.
