16.01.2022 What a day for a skiff race....... BartleyConstruction Manly 16ft Skiff Sailing Club
16.01.2022 Yesterday was the 3rd heat of the BSS Club Championship and the forecast of a 20 knot northerly had 3 out of the 4 crews a bit nervous. Who Knows and TED put i...n their little rigs while RW copied ATA in putting the big rig on. This time the old saying was right (like it is 99 times out of 100) there's only one rig in the river. The breeze ended up being 12-15 knots out of the north east. Advantage big rigs. ATA nailed the start and held a nice lead until half way up the first work. They got one bad knock after the Gateway bridge and that was enough for RW to turn the tables on them. TED was doing a good job of hanging on but once RW and ATA set the big kites it was going to be a race for 3rd for them. Who Knows was under done with the little rig and despite sailing fairly well they couldn't hold the pace of the leaders yesterday. From there it was a race of 2. RW held the lead for the next lap and a half but ATA were chipping away and once the the run home got shy they made their move. RW had a slow drop and were lucky not to hit the bank while ATA got their kite away quickly and took back the lead with about 500m to go. The boats were side by side for a bit and then ATA decided to 2 sail reach out of the tide while RW thought there might be chance to get a kite on and stayed out in the middle of the river. It turned out the gusts kept coming and the kite stayed in the bag. Then it was a nail biting reach to the finish which ended with neither crew sure who won until the committee boat confirmed it was RW by 1 second. ATA just missing out on a 3rd straight win in the club champ finishing 2nd. TED were first of the little rigs in 3rd and Who Knows consolidated 4th.

11.01.2022 ASSA and Gosford sailing club will be working closely over the next few days to come to a decision regarding the upcoming national titles. Our intentions will be announced to the community on Wednesday 23rd by 8pm. We certainly would like to see a COVID-Safe regatta go ahead as planned, however, as much as we all enjoy racing skiffs, the safety of the sailors, volunteers and the broader community is the top priority. These next few days will provide us the time to plan and ...assess the current conditions to make the right decision so we can provide clarity for our sailors. Thanks again for your patience and understanding during this time. If anyone needs any further information, please contact us through our website.
10.01.2022 Australian 16ft & 13ft Skiff Championships Postponed to Easter 2021 After careful consideration Gosford Sailing Club (GSC) and the Australian 16ft Skiff Association (ASSA) have, this evening, made the tough decision to postpone the ‘Red Pumps’ Australian 16ft and 13ft Skiff Championships until Easter 2021. This decision was made having regard to a variety of factors including the challenges currently facing the Northern Beaches and Greater Sydney, which includes Gosford, the ...current border restrictions between NSW and Qld and related uncertainties and NSW’s Health advice more generally in relation to the NSW’s current uptick in COVID-19 cases. We believe the approach to postpone the regatta aligns us to similar decisions being made by other class associations, clubs and businesses whom are doing their part to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The safety of our sailors, volunteers and broader community is our top priority. Postponing the regatta will hopefully provide us with the opportunity to run the regatta with greater certainty, at a reduced health risk for all involved, and in a format which sailors, volunteers and spectators find enjoyable. The deferred Australian Championships to be held 2nd 5th April 2020, will see a slightly reduced schedule of racing, the details of which will be announced in January 2021 via the release of a new regatta NOR. Thank you to GSC for their flexibility, our regatta sponsors for their understanding and the entire 16ft and 13ft Skiff community for your patience during these challenging times as they say, ‘we’re all in this together’. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact ASSA through our website. Best wishes to our sailors currently in lock down and Merry Christmas to all. Regards, Gosford Sailing Club & Australian 16ft Skiff Sailing Association
09.01.2022 It was officially rookie race day at BSS on Saturday. With some of the regular crews unavailable the skiffies took the opportunity get some newbies out on the ...race track. The weather was ideal with a light to moderate north easterly breeze and beautiful blue skies. From the start Ata and Who Knows were battling for the lead and just when it looked like Ata was going to round first, the team on Who Knows did a better job of picking the shifts and wrestled lead back just before the first set. BGN were hanging on and stayed in touch at the top mark with TED not far behind. The race began again on the downwind and while Who Knows remained at the front of the fleet BGN were able to overtake Ata in get into 2nd place. TED then overtook Ata and BGN and began the hunt for Who Knows. The positions looked to be locked in as the fleet had spread out a little but the position of the finish line meant the crews had to make it through the doldrums of the Hamilton high rises and everything came back together. TED were able to sneak through and steal victory from Who Knows who finished an unlucky 2nd. Ata did the same to BGN who tried o a last gasp kite set that didn't pay off allowing Ata to round out the podium. Thanks to the boat owners and experienced crews who raced with the new comers. Well done to Toby and Tom who keep improving each week and Laura who had her first ride on a 16 and proved she's more than capable of stepping up from the Formula 15.
